Defect SummaryOn certain sport utility vehicles, front brake calipers in a certain lot may have been manufactured from gray iron instead of ductile iron as designed and could fracture without warning.
Consequence SummaryThis would increase the vehicle's stopping distance and could cause a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the front brake calipers to see if they fall into this lot and, if so, will replace them free of charge. the recall began on october 22, 2007. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2008 grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the anti lock braking light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that a rear anti lock braking speed sensor malfunctioned, causing the failure. the dealer also stated that the light indicated that the braking system would not function due to the speed sensor reading inaccurately. in addition, the dealer stated that if the vehicle was driven during rainy weather, it could be very dangerous. the anti lock braking sensor was replaced. after the repairs, the same failure occurred on the front passenger speed sensor. the contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the faulty speed sensors. the failure mileage was 47,000. the vin was unavailable. sm.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2008 grand cherokee. the contact stated while driving 35 mph the abs light came on so the contact took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer stated a rear abs speed sensor malfunction causing the abs light to come on. the abs light indicated the brakes system will not function due the the speed sensor not reading properly. the dealer stated if the vehicle drives during rainy weather it could be very dangerous due to the braking system malfunctioning so the dealer replaced the abs speed sensor. after the repair to the rear abs speed sensor the front passenger side abs speed sensor had malfunction. the contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the faulty abs speed sensors. the failure mileage was 47,000. jo
