Our 2011 jeep grand cherokee has exhibited multiple instances of sudden unintended acceleration (sua). it has occurred to my wife, one of our sons who is and aerospace engineer and myself on different days at different speeds and locations. i personally have experienced it on two occasions, one of which caused a minor accident as i was backing out of a parking space, with my foot on the brake put the car in drive and it lunged forward of its own accord, there were two other people in the car and a witness outside the car who reported it just lunged and the brake lights were still on. chrysler inspected the car, found nothing and has closed the case. i called chrysler and asked that we discuss the issue they said they found noting, fixed noting and thus the case is closed. so they are calling three people bold face liars and my concern is they did not find anything so the cause of the problem still exists and can happen again and my wife is at risk every time she gets in the car. there are over 1,000 complaints on various forums about sua instances on jeep cherokees, channel 7 news even did a segment on it a few years back. can you please help at all on this issue? thank you. *tr

2011 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalled then turned off while driving. *smd the consumer stated when the vehicle stalled, it became impossible to the steer the vehicle, the brakes did not respond, the headlights went out, they blinkers did not work and the dashboard was dark. the only display on the sash was the radio/navigation display and the center console text indicating how to start the vehicle. the consumer tried pressing the brake and the start button, but nothing happened. when she slowed down enough, she pushed the transmission lever hard into park, hoping to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the service technician determined the remote keyless entry module was not communicating correctly with the other modules associated with operating the vehicle correctly. an update was performed on the modules, including the remote keyless entry module. however, the technician could not guarantee that it wouldn't happen again. on january 9, 2013, a similar symptom occurred again. when the consumer pushed the ignition button, the vehicle started, but it only lasted for a moment. it then shut down and the center console text displayed on how to start the vehicle. the consumer then pressed the brake and the push button and the vehicle started again, but shut down minutes later. when the key fob was physically placed in the ignition location, the vehicle started without any problems. *jb

2011, 2012 chrysler vehicles with the pentastar v6 3.6 liter engine are rated to tow 5000 lbs unrestricted with the tow package installed. there is a design defect in the cooling system in that it cannot cool the engine when towing about 3500 lbs uphill. the tow vehicle starts uphill at the highway speeds of 65mph in the passing lanes with enough power to continue and suddenly without any warning, lights, etc., the tow vehicle looses power and abruptly slows to a maximum speed of about 27mph. with all other vehicles on the road trying to get by and not slow down, this creates an extreemly dangerous situation of attempting to cross 3 lanes or more to get off the road while tractor trailures have to slam on the brakes and hopefully screech to an almost stopped position to avoid killing the families in the tow vehicles. chrysler has confirmed the problem but has refused to do anything about it and has insisted that the vehicles are working the way they were designed but are obviously not working within the advertized specifications. chrysler does not want to change the advertized specs due to the fact that it might cost them money, even though many peoples lives are at risk. chrysler could easily perform a recall and fix the problem, saving lives, but there would be a small monetary cost to chrysler.

We purchased a new 2011 jeep grand cherokee 11/23/2011. the car had 308 miles on odometer. on 11/25/2011 as we were going out of town the vehicle's diagnostic (obd ii) system warning appeared, with a symbol mil indicating a malfunction indicator light. i checked the fuel tank cap and it was tight, i drove the vehicle to the nearest chrysler/jeep dealership in hamptonroads, va. the service department checked out the problem and determined it to be a # 6 cylinder, misfire-coil failure. none were available for replacement. the service department person stated that it was ok to drive the vehicle locally but suggested it would not be a good idea to drive it out of town, as it would not get very good gas mileage! we started to drive the vehicle home, however; approximately 2 miles after we departed the jeep dealership the vehicle caught a fire and burned the entire engine compartment/front of vehicle. we, my wife and i escaped without phsyical harm, but had to stand by and watch it burn until the firedepartment arrived.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated the automatic starter failed on the vehicle. the dealer had to move the wiring harness from under the hood so the hood would close correctly and the starter would work. the contact stated the air conditioning failed on the vehicle as well. the dealer had to replace the coolant condenser on the vehicle. the contact stated the electronic stability control light and engine malfunction light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer fours times for these failures. the contact feels the vehicle is unsafe to drive because of the consistent failures. the failure mileage was 20 and the current mileage was 9,500.rl

Driving down the street when white steam like smoke comes from under the hood. the smoke becomes dense and there is a smell of hot transmission fluid. the vehicle begins to power off and upon exiting the vehicle there is a strong smell of transmission fluid and a large pool of fluid discharged under the vehicle. the car was towed and returned to the dealership. the dealers technician reported, technician performed visual inspections and clean off of fluid found the transmission cooler lines at the radiator had disconnected due to not be improper connection issues reinstalled both transmission cooler lines and clamped lines, tested pressure on both lines. filled system and test drove and cleaned (due to massive spray from lines coming loose), pulled vehicle back into shop and rechecked fluid level and cleaned area (repeated this process several times to bring fluid level to proper level) finish cleaning engine area and verified. parts:6 fluid-atf +4. my issue is that i had just exited a high speed, 65mph, highway and if this failure had happened on something less then a slow secondary road with no traffic, there could have been a significant accident or potential injury.
