Purchased 2007 jeep grand cherokee overland 5.7 on 11/30/2012. on 12/04/2012 i experienced stalling while decelerating to stop for a stop light, then the vehicle stalled showing code p0884. the vehicle started right back up when i turned the key with no signs of hesitation. ever since that day, my vehicle stalls on average about 8-10 times per week depending on how often i use the vehicle. it stalls mainly during idle or coming to a stop and the most frightening stall i have experienced was when i was traveling at 60mph on a major highway and the vehicle completely stalled, and instantly restarted itself. both times i experienced stalling at high speed was when i was doing about 60mph and both times the vehicle restarted itself on its own. but every time the vehicle stalls, i loose all power including power steering which worries me very much. apparently i am not the only 2007 jeep grand cherokee overland with the 5.7 motor owner experiencing this problem. i am one of the hundreds on owners involved in a group discussion on jeepforum.com where we discuss this problem and steps that jeep, private mechanics, and/or owners themselves have taken to correct this stalling problem. this problem has been going on for years and no one seems to have a solution. loss of power at 60mph is a very big issue and i worry that someone can be very hurt or killed by loss of power steering during stalling. i hope this issue raises concerns for my vehicle and i would be more than willing to allow someone from the nhtsa come and test drive my vehicle to experience what i and hundreds, possibly thousands of others are experiencing. thank you very much and if you should have any questions in regards to this problem, please do not hesitate to contact me any time. *tr

There are no brake or tail lights or brake lights when it is dark, everything works in the day light, very dangerous to drive without any lights in rear of car

This is a continuing issue. the speed will suddenly decrease to 30 miles per hour without any action on drivers part. this is dangerous, especially on busy roads. we were told it was the front control module but after reading reviews it doesn't solve the problem. chrysler should be held responsible to identify the problem, then issue a recall. they are not interested in doing anything. we bailed them out? *tr

Upon acceleration from stop vehicle will hesitate and lose power. this constitutes a hazard to vehicle and any approching vehicles during a turn. inspection indicates that transmission electronic control module is at fault along with a possible transmission sensor failure. the check engine light will come on. both of these conditions ( power and check engine ) are intermittant, indicating that the module is faulty. there have been many complaints about the transmission ecm on these vehicles. the other complaints have varying symptoms but all go back to the transmission ecm. these unit should be recalled and repaired or replaced at manufacturers cost. this problem exists in many different models and years of vehicles, but always go back to this ecm unit. after investigating this problem i don't feel that the consumer is at fault or causing this to occur. chrysler modules are and have been faulty in the past. annecdotal evidence says that other modules in chrysler vehicles have had problems too. please investigate the chrysler transmission ecm's and have them recalled.

When you shift from park the prdnl will have a box around each of the letters. when backing up it slams into reverse and then slams into drive and the vehicle will only go 20 mph no matter how much you step on the gas. this has now happened 5 times and the only way it goes back to normal is to shut off the vehicle and start it back up. i have now seen numerous blogs where this happens at highway speeds, in the middle of intersections and is so dangerous to drive cause you never know when it is going to happen. from what i have read it looks like you have to replace the electronic control module at a cost of almost $800 to just have it go out again later and have the same problem again. this is very dangerous and scary!

2007 jeep grand cherokee (5.7 hemi) with ~50,000 miles frequently stalls both in motion and while stopped. stalling causes all electronics to shutoff, which results in loss of power steering and brakes. numerous times, i have almost been hit because the vehicle will nearly stop in the middle of the road. the vehicle has been taken to a jeep dealership four times for the stalling issue, which has not been resolved. the dealer claims they cannot replicate the issue. this random stalling is a severe safety hazard that endangers both me, my passengers, and people driving around me. there are thousands of posts on the web referring to the same stalling issue with the jeep grand cherokees (wk) and the jeep commanders (xk). does someone have to be killed before anyone takes action?

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle decelerated and lost power. the contact stated the vehicle would not accelerate further than 20 mph. the contact pulled over to the side of the roar and shut the vehicle off. the contact restarted the vehicle and was able to drive the vehicle. the failure occurred a second time. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 33,300. ds

Black plastic connector that connects yellow wire to starter solenoid comes loose and/or gets dirty or corroded causing it not to make contact and the vehicle will sometimes not start. i've have seen on various online forums with people having this exact same problem. dealerships always want to replace starter and other parts when it is simply this poor connection thats the problem. chrysler denies it's a problem and dealer mechanics will not put on a better connector. they just like to keep charging people for new starters and other parts when they don't need them. this loose connection also could also cause a fire, it is an obvious flaw in design and a fire could cause serious injury or death to someone that doesn't realize the connection is bad.

2007 jeep grand cherokee starting issues. i have had been stranded three times now due to my vehicle not starting, i have paid to have it towed three times. mechanics cannot figure out what the issue is. i have read thousands of on-line reports of the same issue. i spent $700 last month on something in the transmission (transfer case maybe) and it would not start again yesterday and i had to have it towed again. i as a single mother cannot be continue to be stranded. apparently no one can figure out what is going on with these vehicles. i have just over 50,000 miles on it, and would consider this to be a fairly newer vehicle. i am scared to drive it anywhere. i also seem to have shifting problems especially going up hills. i am scared i am going to be left stranded somewhere alone with my daughter.

Vehicle has lost power while driving. you will be crusing along or pulling out into an intersection and you will loose all power. the engine will not rev, no response at all. after waiting for a perion of time, the vehicle starts going again. this happened to me four times, once in the middle of an intersection, four lanes in all directions, and the vehicle just lost all power. very scary. i took the vehicle to my local garage, and he told me that this was the second jeep to do the same thing. the owner had to have the vehicle towed into the garage, and upon arrival, could find nothing wrong. i had to go to an authorized jeep dealer, and i asked them if they ever heard of this happening, and the reply was, just 3 or 4 times....imaging if this failure happened this often in this small area, how many other vehicles may be having the same problem. the vehicle only had 31000 miles on it, but it was out of warranty for time by 9 months. this is a very dangerous event when you are driving and suddenly loose all power and don't know if or when it is coming back. chrysler said they do not have a problem. i don't believe them.

In may 2008, 15308 mi on jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lighs com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc.; starts back on it's own. took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermitten since-safety issue in traffic. now tranny problem, started sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solinoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. chrysler should stand behind their poducts & be responsible for design and components. this is very disheartening since both my husband and i own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing chrysler's problem is just too much! i warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic.

While driving the entire dashboard lit up and then slowly proceeded to shut down. gauges stopped working then suddenly came back on. vehicle began to heisitate with shifting and car felt very sluggish. occured 3-4 times for no apparent reason and without warning. dealer could not recreate or identify the problem despite many online reports of the exact same incident.

I have a 2007 jeep cherokee laredo. while i was driving at night, in the dark, my headlights and interior lights began to flash on and off. realizing what an extreme danger the jeep was to me and all others on the road i immediately took to the dealership. the dealership said they were unable to diagnose a problem and told me to continue to drive the jeep. its happenrd on 5 different occasions after and every instance i have taken it to the dealership with no resolution nor a diagnosis.

Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. nothing done yet. called dealer, online searches. very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!!

Car will decelerate, and will not respond to depressing of the accelerator pedal. occurs at various speeds and traffic conditions. contacted dealership, began to describe issue, without describing the make and model, and the repair-shop was able to then tell me the make and model of my vehicle without me previously disclosing. (already had gear shift module replaced once before, and since the issue occurred 14 months later, dealership refuses to cover expense of replacement.) this is a very dangerous issue, and as stated before, occurs at various times and traffic conditions, and there are no preceding warnings or other indicators that foreshadow the occurrence. car is now at 42,000 miles, yet it is in need of a 3rd shift module, seems highly unlikely. dealership needs to declare a recall or when the customer has the problem, they fix it without further expense to the consumer. i bought this jeep new, and its my 4th one, however, i am extremely disappointed with their customer service, and the quality of vehicle they are producing, and will not ever purchase their vehicles again.

This problem has occurred almost every day for two months. i will describe one incident, which occurred this evening around 11pm. i was driving on the highway in my 2007 jeep grand cherokee when my accelerator stopped having any effect on my car. all of the gauges died (so the fuel reported empty, the speedometer said i was not moving, etc) - all of this while traveling at 65mph. i had to pull over, turn the car off and back on, and all of the problems went away. as i've said, this has happened once a day for the past two months. so far there appears to be no fix for the problem.

In august of 2009 my wife experienced her jeep cherokee die out in the middle of traffic. i met her at the scene. the car started immediately and was drivable with no subsequent occurrences that day. we took it to jack phalen dodge in countryside, il for service to see if they could determine the cause. on august 31 we picked up the vehicle and it checked out completely, they were unable to duplicate the concern. twice since august we experienced the same concern, the car died out in traffic. both times we were able to start the car without any issues and continue. on saturday, march 6 we drove to downtown chicago. on this day we initial drove over 20 miles to get into the city, however once we were there the car began to die. this time we experienced it dying out at least 10 times. once, on i-55 with traffic moving at expressway speeds. having lost confidence that we would be able to continue safely we called for a tow. we took it back to jack phalen for review. we picked up the car on monday, march 8. again we were told that nothing was wrong mechanically with the auto. however, they noted that there was a star case for loss of throttle response #k34511542 which responded to software updates. they installed 5 software updates. we received no guarantee that this would fix the issue nor would they guarantee that future occurrences would be covered under our warranty, which expires in april 2010. we are obviously concerned that dated software could potentially result in a car losing all power in traffic and the dangers that would pose. i have filed a complaint with chrysler. this obviously seems like it could potentially present a very dangerous situation. *tr

While driving down the highway at 65 with the headlights on all of my dash lights lit up and there was no power for a few seconds. this is the first time it has happened since purchasing this vehicle. i have no been able to take my jeep into the shop since i was already at work. i contacted the dealer and they said they have had complaints like this and that they would not be able to read the fault. *tr

I was driving home from a trip and was two hours from home. i stopped at a fruit stand and when i got back in the vehicle it would not start despite it clearly not being a battery problem. the car was towed to the dealer. this occurred on a saturday. on monday when they inspected the vehicle it started with no problem. they ran a computer diagnostic check and found no faults. i was told to drive the vehicle until it acted up again. twelve days later it would not start again. i had it towed to the dealer who determined that the starter motor needed to be replaced. i find it amazing that i needed to wait until the car broke down again in order to determine what wrong with the vehicle. clearly there were issues and simply running a computer test was not sufficient. *tr

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION
08/22/2007200608/21/2007
The day after i bought the brand new 2007 jeep grand cherokee diesel, i unlocked the doors with the key fob, opened a couple of the doors and loaded my luggage, then i did the key sequence on the keyfob (lock+panic) to turn off the beep when you lock the car. after all this i tried to start it (correct starting procedure - wait for glow light to go out) and the starter cranked the engine with no firing at all. i repeat and wait 5 times over about 5 minutes, it failed to start each time. finally after i have waited about 2 more minutes, i tried again and it fired right up like it is supposed to. i am concerned the car could fail to start again. updated 01-16-08. *kb
