Originally having issues slowing down going around corners and up a steep incline. felt like vehicle was staying in higher gear, you could down shift it manually. at that time there were no codes present in the system. then last year in august 2011 we did a cross county trip (7000 miles) vehicle would stall at both low speed and high speeds, not every day. sometimes vehicle would restart itself and others the key had to be removed and reinserted, but most times not. the weather did not seem to be a factor. upon return vehicle had approx 45,000 miles, codes retreived from vehicle were multiple. active codes: b2105, c121c pending code: p0524 stored codes p0129, p0688, p0884. at 35,000 miles new oem spark plugs and water pump (due to coolant leak) with new antifreeze. vehicle is serviced regularly every 3,000 miles since new. since 45,000 miles all related circuits and components have been inspected and checked for proper operation. new crank sensor and electrical ignition switch. code b2105 keeps recurring even without stall. all wiring connections and grounds have been cleaned and checked, new battery at 36,000. had vehicle to dealer and they said they may not be able to find problem. we have stopped driving this vehicle even though we are still paying for it because we feel that it is not safe. my husband has 40 years as certified automotive mechanic and is very frustrated with this vehicle. *tr

I was driving down the road, only going around 15 mph, when my p r n d all lit up and i was unable to drive. i stopped and put it in park and tried again and it ran fine. this happened on two other occasions. i was getting ready to leave and put my vehicle in drive and it jerked forward. i'm very disappointed that i have to replace the electronic monitoring system at such a low mileage, the cost for this is close to $400 and that is not pricing labor and not to mention dangerous for this to happen while you are driving. *tr

My wife was driving and just about to get onto the interstate and with no warning, she couldn't accelerate past 25-30mph. luckily she was able to pull to the side of the road quickly without an issue and turned the car off, waited a minute and started the jeep up again and was then able to accelerate. when talking to the dealer, they have never heard of this problem before. when jeep was checked at a local dealer, they pulled error codes that pointed to the transmission speed sensor. only about $700 to replace that with labor!! the sensors are all part of the circuit board and thus need to dismantle the transmission to replace the sensors. then i get on this site and see all the complaints with the same issue. this weekend i'm going car searching to get rid of this thing. *tr

While driving on a 5 lane interstate at 4:30pm, i accelerated to move over into the far left lane and lost all acceleration while doing this. also the check engine light came on while this happened. had to coast across 5 lanes of interstate into the emergency lane. stopped the car and put it in park. waited a minute and put it back in drive and the accelerator magically worked again. the check engine light remained on, drove to an autoparts store to have the code checked. the technician said it was code p0730, gear ratio incorrect.

Upon acceleration from stop vehicle will hesitate and lose power. this constitutes a hazard to vehicle and any approching vehicles during a turn. inspection indicates that transmission electronic control module is at fault along with a possible transmission sensor failure. the check engine light will come on. both of these conditions ( power and check engine ) are intermittant, indicating that the module is faulty. there have been many complaints about the transmission ecm on these vehicles. the other complaints have varying symptoms but all go back to the transmission ecm. these unit should be recalled and repaired or replaced at manufacturers cost. this problem exists in many different models and years of vehicles, but always go back to this ecm unit. after investigating this problem i don't feel that the consumer is at fault or causing this to occur. chrysler modules are and have been faulty in the past. annecdotal evidence says that other modules in chrysler vehicles have had problems too. please investigate the chrysler transmission ecm's and have them recalled.

2007 jeep grand cherokee (5.7 hemi) with ~50,000 miles frequently stalls both in motion and while stopped. stalling causes all electronics to shutoff, which results in loss of power steering and brakes. numerous times, i have almost been hit because the vehicle will nearly stop in the middle of the road. the vehicle has been taken to a jeep dealership four times for the stalling issue, which has not been resolved. the dealer claims they cannot replicate the issue. this random stalling is a severe safety hazard that endangers both me, my passengers, and people driving around me. there are thousands of posts on the web referring to the same stalling issue with the jeep grand cherokees (wk) and the jeep commanders (xk). does someone have to be killed before anyone takes action?

I was driving along at 70 mph in the number one lane when the motor just quit. i had to change over three lanes to get to side so i would be safe. there large trucks in the number two and thee lanes which caused me concern for my safety. the crankshaft sensor was defective causing the incident. i feel there should have been a recall because the sprinter uses the same engine which has been recalled for the same reason. *tr

While driving 60 mph down busy road the engine died, when accelerator was pressed there was no power, dash went completely dark. pulled to the side of the road and the vehicle would not go into park. after several tries it could be restarted. the shift control module has already been replaced due to previous problems. *tr

I have been to the dealer 3 times for this issue. first it was my prnd lights would all light up at the same time and my acceleration would not work. then my check engine light would come on and go off again after a few starts. now the check engine light is on and the code is u0404 which i am told is the shifter/electronic control module. while searching this i have found hundreds of owners with the same problem, all right after their warranty ran out. i went to the dealer while still under warranty and it was not found now that i am 900 mil;es past warranty they know what it is. i feel if this many owners have the same problem it should be recalled. i completely lost acceleration while on the highway twice and was almost rear ended. *tr

Vehicle is 2007 jeep grand cherokee and currently has 18300 miles and was purchased new in jan. 2008. two failure to accelerate problems have occurred. one on 5/31/10 and another on 04/21/11. in both instances the vehicle would not shift into the next gear and the speed could not exceed 30 to 35 mph even with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floor. the problem occurred without any warning. after the first occurrence the dealer replaced the bezel shift selector. after the second occurrence the dealer could not determine what the problem was. merging onto a busy freeway where traffic speeds routinely exceed 80mph and not being able to accelerate beyond 30-35 mph is a serious safety problem which could result in injury or death. the same safety concerns apply if the vehicle suddenly decelerates from 70 to 30 mph

The dash indicators for the gear shift will all illuminate at the same time and the vehicle will go into neurtal. this has happened three or four times. the last time it occured while traveling on the expressway, fortunately i was able to get it back in gear after taping the shift lever several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said they replaced a electonic shift module. they kept the old part that was removed.

When putting transmission into drive, the vehicle will not accelerate, this problem first occured at approx 31,000 miles. the dealership replaced the shift control module. the proble went away. then again at 62,000 miles, when pulling into traffic, the vehicle started to accelerate, then lost power. another vehicle had to swerve to miss me, i would have been hit in the drivers door had he not swerved. my vehicle would not move, after cycling the ignition key , the problem went away, took to dealer they told me that the same shift control module needs to be replaced (again) for 750.00. the vehicle is unsafe to drive and i am shocked that someone has not been killed by this issue as there are hundreds of reports of this on the internet. this is absolutely a manufacturing defect as it has happened on a wide number of identical vehicles with the same repair being performed only to have the problem repeat itself.

Vehicle has lost power while driving. you will be crusing along or pulling out into an intersection and you will loose all power. the engine will not rev, no response at all. after waiting for a perion of time, the vehicle starts going again. this happened to me four times, once in the middle of an intersection, four lanes in all directions, and the vehicle just lost all power. very scary. i took the vehicle to my local garage, and he told me that this was the second jeep to do the same thing. the owner had to have the vehicle towed into the garage, and upon arrival, could find nothing wrong. i had to go to an authorized jeep dealer, and i asked them if they ever heard of this happening, and the reply was, just 3 or 4 times....imaging if this failure happened this often in this small area, how many other vehicles may be having the same problem. the vehicle only had 31000 miles on it, but it was out of warranty for time by 9 months. this is a very dangerous event when you are driving and suddenly loose all power and don't know if or when it is coming back. chrysler said they do not have a problem. i don't believe them.

When my 2007 jeep grand cherokee is in drive, there is a loss of power. the check-engine light comes on, and it's as if the car doesn't know whether it's in drive, neutral, reverse, etc. the dealer says i need a electronic shift module to the tune of $600+. after looking into this, i see it is a problem with many jeep grand cherokees. i am looking into getting jeep to take responsibility for the faulty part.

Jeep grand cherokee 2007, 25,000 miles. suddenly decelerates and all of the boxes around the gears prnd light up at the same time. i need to puul over, turn the jeep off, then restart to regain normal running. this could be a tragic problem if the jeep were to suddenly decelerate on a highway with a full load of children.
01/07/200732000
Jeep accelerates then at about 15-20mph it wont accelerate any more and boxes will appear around the p n r d and then it will all of a sudden jerk forward and the check engine light will go on.

In may 2008, 15308 mi on jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lighs com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc.; starts back on it's own. took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermitten since-safety issue in traffic. now tranny problem, started sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solinoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. chrysler should stand behind their poducts & be responsible for design and components. this is very disheartening since both my husband and i own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing chrysler's problem is just too much! i warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic.

I have a 2007 jeep grand cherokee with about 38,000 miles on it. it has stalled out several times when trying to accelerate almost resulting in a few accidents. i was told the electronic shift module needs to be replaced, which has been a recurring problem for a large number of jeeps this year-make-model. the part alone costs over $700 and is on national back order for over a month. there absolutely needs to be a recall....this is a serious safety hazard and absolutely ridiculous!!
12/14/201038000
The car all of a sudden loses power and all the prnd12 light up. some days it won't go into drive, then all of a sudden drops into drive. when driving on the highway if you slow down, you can't speed up again, like you have no acceleration. once in a while the check engine light comes on, then it will go off again, most of the time you have no notice that anything is going to happen, you just lose the ability to accerate. i see a lot of other people filing complaints on the same issue and have looked online and found many more that are having this issue.

Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. nothing done yet. called dealer, online searches. very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!!
09/15/200730000
2007/ 30 000 miles. shifter malfunctions intermittently and causes loss of acceleration by going neutral or sticking in 1st gear unexpectedly. typically, all the letters are lift prnd simutaneously and check engine light comes on. stopping and restarting (annoying and dangerous in highway driving) seems to reset the shifter. dealer says esm part no 52124138ad is responsible for the problem. i believe for safety reasons, there should be a recall on this part before somebody gets killed as a sitting duck in the middle of the highway.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) re: 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4 problem: dangerous shifter module defect to whom it may concern: last week, my wife was bringing our children to school, and upon leaving the driveway, the transmission jumped, the car jerked back dangerously into the open street, and all of the lights illuminated on the dash (p, n, r, d). fortunately for us, she was able to return the car to the drivway, unharmed. living on a busy street, we are very lucky that it happened without any accident/injury. as this is the second time something like this has happened, i am now afraid to let her drive this car any longer, upon contacting jeep/chrysler, i was told that they would not be able to cover this safety repair (approx. cost is $1025.oo w/tax,parts,labor). i am downright frustrated, angry, and fearful. after reading scores of ofher similar complaints about the shifter module on reputable sites like edmunds.com, my frustration with chrysler has increased. they simply won't concede that there is a dangerous safety flaw with the shifter in the vehicle. please, any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  The transmission in my 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo started clunking loudly when i shifted from reverse into drive. the service engine light will come on after this occurs. the problem was intermittent, then, one day i was sitting at a red light. when it turned green, i stepped on the gas pedal and the vehicle would not move. it acted as if was in park. i shifted it to park and back into drive several times and suddenly the vehicle slammed into gear lunged forward into traffic. i reported this problem to my dealership (the vehicle is under warranty) who told me no codes registered in relation to the service engine light having been on and that they could not duplicate the problem. they returned the vehicle to me and two days later the same transmission clunking began and the service engine light came on. i left a red light today and the vehicle would not shift from first gear into second. finally, it shifted, slamming into gear, with a loud, hard clunk that shot my vehicle several feet ahead. i almost lost control of the vehicle and would have had an accident if a car had been ahead of me. it's back at the dealership who claims there's nothing wrong. the car has only 21,000 miles on it. clearly, there is something wrong and i fear for my safety and cannot simply go buy another vehicle. *tr

There have been several people with the 2007 wk crd that have reported that their vehicle has died on them while driving. reading about this on jeep forum, i discovered that there is a tsb related to a faulty crankshaft position sensor on wk jeeps that were built before june 12th, 2007. my jeep was built in april, 2007. while my jeep has not stalled, it is my wife's vehicle and she is frequently transporting our two children. the tsb calls for checking and replacing the sensor if it fails, but i do not find this to be acceptable. if the vehicle were to just die while they were going down the highway it could result in serious injuries to my wife and kids. i believe that chrysler should do a recall to replace this sensor before anyone gets hurt. *tr

I recently leased a new 2007 jeep grand cherokee 3.7 l , 6 cylinders. this was the second time in less than a month that the vehicle stalled while driving at highway speed 50 mph) and local speed 30 mph. the vehicle suddenly lost power and could not be driven at more than 20 mph, and the indicator gauges seem ed stuck in place. also, the vehicle shut off when making a sharp turn into a parking space at work. the first incident occurred on a major highway in new york city ,and my fear was that another vehicle would rear end my vehicle. we had the vehicle towed to the original purchasing location at additional costs to us, and they stated that the problem was related to the shift controller, transmission not sending the proper signal for it to shift properly. they told us they would replace the solenoid, and it should be fine. this was less than a month ago, and now my wife was unwilling to drive the vehicle for fear of being stuck in traffic or being involved in an accident. i will be taking the vehicle back to the dealer on 7/9/07. any additional information you could provide to address this problem was greatly appreciated. i will also contact daimler/chrysler corporate headquarters in the morning.*ak

I purchased a new 2007 jeep grand cherokee 9/27/07 from tarbox jeep in n. kingstown, ri the day i took delivery the jeep had several problems the front windows did not work properly, the tail gate was not lighting up properly and i was getting a vibration through out the jeep when driving over 45 mph. i informed the sales man the next day of the defects in the jeep i brought the jeep in to be serviced and to have the repairs done on 11/6/07 the tail gate was fixed as best as they could but still defective the front power window's were also corrected how ever the vibration has not been resolved they replaced the drive shaft, they also removed the transmission and replaced the torque converter that still did not correct the problem. they know believe it needs a new downloag to the transmission control modular but that will not be ready for at least 2 weeks and they do not know if that will correct the problem and they are insisting i take back the jeep on 11/16/07 i feel the jeep might be a safety hazard to drive due to tarbox not know what the problem is i have called chrysler and i am in need of help i drive about 600 miles each week and do not feel safe driving the jeep in the correct condition. i have had a rental car for 10 days going on 11 days. i could use some help on this matter. *tr
