We have a 2001 jeep laredo and the left rear axle seals and bearings have gone out twice. bearings start making noise at around 35 mph. the seals failed and caused oil to get on the emergency brake lining causing emergency brake to be ineffective. the first time this went out the vehicle had approx. 75,000 mi. the vehicle has the same problem again at approx. 82,000 mi. this has cost $1100.00 to fix the first time and is at the dealer now for the second repair which will cost at least $1500.00 to repair bearings and emergency brake and/or linings. *tr

My 2001 jeep accelerates when stopping and has a slow take off when accelerating. i stopped at a traffic light when applying the brakes the jeep accelerated. i had to again apply the brakes. i never know when it is going to stop. the transmission light has come on and a gas cap was replaced when this first happened but now the accelerations have started again. i am afraid to drive the car close to any other car because i don't know if the jeep will just take off. also, the shift gear slips easily i have to be careful about touching the shift while driving. has any other complaints been filed concerning the accelerations when stopping in the 2001 jeep grand cherokees? *tr

Blend door failure on my '01 jeep grand cherokee limited and transmission failure after 79000 miles resulting in thousands of dollars of repairs. have been complaining about transmission since i got the new car and jeep kept saying it was normal they even had a period of time when they extended the powertrain warranty to 100,000 miles which my car missed by 65 days. i also see too many blend door issues that jeep needs to address vs. me paying $850.00 for. *tr

I was backing my car out of my garage when i realized that i forgot something. i went to put the car in park and it was still moving forward. i tried to put it in reverse and it continued to move forward. after trying to put in different gears, i realized that it was not going to go into any gear. i was forced to turn off the engine and put the parking break on. fortunately, i was not on a hill since the car would not go into park. since it would not go into gear, the car's safety feature kicked in and would not allow me to re-start it. i had to have it towed to a garage and it was determined that the gear shift cable had broken. the charge was $200.00, which included the towing. my car has 69,000 miles on it, but it is mostly highway miles. i am not hard on this car and no one else drives it. i have never heard of this happening to a car of this age. in fact, no one i know has ever heard of this happening to any car. i feel this part must have been defective. the mechanic said it just broke. i asked if it looked like something could have happened, like a foreign object breaking it. he said no. had i been in a situation where i was on a steep hill i would have been very concerned about whether or not the parking break alone would have held since i could not get it to go into park or any other gear to move it. what would i have done? i believe this could be a dangerous situation if in the wrong place at the wrong time. the part was replaced and seems to be working fine. i do not have the old part. *nm
