I am experiencing a rattling sound when driving uphill or downhill through driveway, traveling 5-20 miles an hour. i took my jeep 2002 liberty 2wd to get serviced and received recommended repairs: prosteer control arm with ball joint upper center, remove and install propeller shaft to replace universal joints on both ends, rear wheel bearings, tail pipe is welded to muffler, muffler does not meet design specifications and should be replaced due to exhaust leak as well, remove rack and pinion, complete rack as does not meet design specifications and is leaking. i was driving about 25 mph and my rear right side tire was smoking profusely. i pulled over and noticed the gray smoke from my tire. i took the car to check the rear breaks. they were fine but was told that i had a leak from the exhaust pipe which dripped on to that area. the car has 75,806 miles. i was told that i could loose control of vehicle and entire area can collapse during traffic due to these issues. aside from these issues, i am experiencing a whistling sound, problems with rear drivers side passenger power window regulator which produces grind-like sound. the window came off and i was told that i needed a new regulator for the window. i'm also experiencing a red stain in engine oil drippage on ground. finally, strange odor from car -odor continues to be present whether i wash the carpets and seats (smells like mold/mildew or skunk).

On february 16, 2005 while traveling eastbound i-80 in salt lake city i hit some black ice and lost control of my 2002 jeep liberty. i was traveling freeway speeds and had a front impact along with a driver side rollover and a slide of approximately 100 yards. all of the emergency personnel that responded to my accident voiced shock and concern that none of the airbags deployed. further, i have heard that if the g-force was not great enough to deploy the side airbags, the jeep should not have rolled (i have no idea if that is true). i had, and still have, serious concerns about why my airbags did not deploy and do not trust that in the event of another accident they would deploy, regardless of the severity. i contacted jeep and asked them to look into it. they did do some investigation. however, i was told that because my jeep was not preserved for their inspection there was nothing they could do. i have sent them several e-mails explaining that i do have photo that document the damage and show that the airbag did not deploy. they have just disregarded my complaints. i also have concerns about the ease in which my jeep rolled over. this concern has also been dismissed. i would like to know that my family is going to be safe if anther unfortunate accident occurs.

I am writing to you because of serious concerns about the 2002 jeep liberty i purchased in may of 2002 from don bessette in minot, nd. i purchased the vehicle 8 months and 7,000 miles after the vehicle originally went into service which was september 11, 2001. overall the vehicle has been nothing short of a nightmare. i am unable to keep tires on the jeep because it continues to come out of alignment. the vehicle pulls to the right. i have taken it in several times to two different jeep dealers and no one has been able to fix the problem. i have had 4 sets of goodyear tires on the front of the jeep and the vehicle only has 28,000 miles on it! all of which continue to be damaged by the jeep. even after the recall of the ball joint in the front end which was replaced i continue to have the problem. the jeep has been aligned more times than i can count, yet i still have the same problem, time and time again. the vehicle is dangerous to drive because it wants to jump all over the road. chrysler has not been able to fix this problem even after 6 trips to the dealer. the vehicle pulls to the right, ruins the tires then is knocked out of alignment. its a vicious circle. they blame it on the tires even though i have proven four times its the jeep that ruins the tires. not only have i had to deal with this dangerous jeep because of not being able to keep it aligned i have also had to deal with water and mold inside the car for the past year. i have had the jeep at a chrysler dealership six times over the past year and each time i continue to leave the dealership in a 2002 jeep that is all over the road, new tires that are cupped and that reeks from mold and mildew. chrysler continues to ignore my concerns after multiple attempts to get the jeep fixed. i asked recently how to escalate the issue and i was told i couldnt. meanwhile the jeep is still under warranty.*ak

On approx the date entered, the left rear electric window glass dropped into door frame and would no longer operate. investigation found that plastic clip on the end of the window regulator cable gets worn and breaks, and window becomes disconnected from regulator at this point. very expensive for simple fix, cost over $100 for entire new regulator, as plastic clip is not available separately. thankfully i am mechanically inclined and i was able to install it myself, as estimate from then daimler-chrysler was over $300 for repair. since that time, the other window regulator broke in the exact same fashion, and being the replacement part had gone up even further in cost, i taped window shut. before i could afford to fix other window, the one i had previously repaired broke again in an identical fashion. all three rear window regulators, both factory originals, and one factory replacement, broke within 3 years. both windows were then taped up, as i wasn't about to buy well over $200 worth of trouble prone replacement parts only to have situation take place yet again. thankfully, an aftermarket source now sells metal parts to replace defective, wear prone parts supplied by chrysler-jeep. it cost $100 to further repair both windows with aftermarket metal parts, and i have experienced no trouble since. incorrectly designed/manufactured parts supplied by chrysler-jeep are definitely the issue here.

The rear window of my 2002 jeep liberty just fell while i was driving. i could not get it to stay up and now have it taped up. after doing some investigation of my own this seems to be a recurrent problem with people having replaced the window regulator multiple times. sometimes when the window falls the cable somehow keeps the rear door from opening. this could be a very dangerous issue for adults and children. also, with the window falling for no reason i am afraid it may fall, break, and cut someone. it seems there is a part made out of plastic that continues to break and it should be fixed. i have an appointment to get my vehicle fixed and have found that it may cost between $300 and $500 and then may break again. i am a little concerned about that.*dt

Jeep liberty pulls to right, will stop dead in its tracks while in drive, hard to control, thumping noise, metal to metal grinding from front end, seat belts do not work properly, hard to start, front seat covers rippled, paint peeled on hood, tailgate, breaks only work some of the time, shakes and hard to control on speed above 35 mph, all interior weather stripping came off. same complaints from 1/7/03 ball joints replaced on recall on 1/10/03 still had pulling to right problems, shaking,. weather stripping all fell off on interior of car, acts like wheels are binding. 3/4/03 same complaints pulling to right, stops dead in its track, hard to control, wheels bind, dealer could not duplicate complaints (did not write up work order) 3/27/03 dealer installed interior weather stripping, same complaints as 1/10/03,3/4/03. again on 6/2/03 took jeep liberty to dealer took a test drive could not verify complaints. did not write up a work order. 1/16/04 jeep liberty hard to start, pulls to right, jeep shakes & vibrates hard to control, seat belts do not work, seat rippling, car stops dead it its tracks, dealer fixed lower ball joints again on 2/13/04 at 23,850 miles. 2-13-04 picked up car from dealer still had same problems dealer stated this is how jeeps drive they are nuts! 11-04 dealer took test drive was still having problems claimed everything okay. did not right up a work order. 5/27/05 had massive problems brakes would go to the floor, sometime would work and other time not. took to nearest brake place pads, okay, but wheel cylinder leaked. claim it could be a intermittent failure of master cylinder, called dealer ship no part available. 7/5/05 took to dealer again with same problems,r they had not even looked at it. removed jeep and took to private auto placed,ut with intermittent problems you could replace most of the parts on the car & you may not cure the problems. *jb

Within a year and a half, i had three windshield replacements. insurance agent said with that many replacements, could be defect. every time jeep hit bump, would squeak. took two dealerships 5 attempts to fix. paint was peeling on grill, had repainted. jeep constantly pulls to the right. have had alignment and tire rotations, still not fixed. latest, all four aluminum wheels are corroding due to them being manufactured with aluminum and steel. according to the dealership, the rims have been redesigned, but because my mileage is over 36, 000 miles, they are charging to replace them even though a dealer at the same dealership was having the exact same problem and had his replaced at no cost. field district manager refuses to speak to me, who made the decision for me to pay. can someone please guide me in the right direction. i need help. cgray78@aol.com. *jb

Jeep liberty 2002 / there was a recall on the ball joints. the dealership is telling me the ball joints are bad after only 25,000 miles after the dealership did the recall repair. ball joints typically last somewhere near 100,000 miles. the car is driven on the highway in florida about 8,000 miles a year (no off road at all). i feel the recall repair was subpar and want the ball joints repaired by jeep.
