I am experiencing a rattling sound when driving uphill or downhill through driveway, traveling 5-20 miles an hour. i took my jeep 2002 liberty 2wd to get serviced and received recommended repairs: prosteer control arm with ball joint upper center, remove and install propeller shaft to replace universal joints on both ends, rear wheel bearings, tail pipe is welded to muffler, muffler does not meet design specifications and should be replaced due to exhaust leak as well, remove rack and pinion, complete rack as does not meet design specifications and is leaking. i was driving about 25 mph and my rear right side tire was smoking profusely. i pulled over and noticed the gray smoke from my tire. i took the car to check the rear breaks. they were fine but was told that i had a leak from the exhaust pipe which dripped on to that area. the car has 75,806 miles. i was told that i could loose control of vehicle and entire area can collapse during traffic due to these issues. aside from these issues, i am experiencing a whistling sound, problems with rear drivers side passenger power window regulator which produces grind-like sound. the window came off and i was told that i needed a new regulator for the window. i'm also experiencing a red stain in engine oil drippage on ground. finally, strange odor from car -odor continues to be present whether i wash the carpets and seats (smells like mold/mildew or skunk).

I have had three rear power window regulators break on my 2002 jeep liberty. one replacement only lasted eight months with very little use. the failure has caused the door to jam so it cannot be opened. this creates a very hazardous condition that in case of an accident a rear passenger cannot get out of the vehicle through that door. i have read other complaints on the internet about this problem. it seems that this defect is quite common with jeep liberty's. *tr

We have a jeep 2002 liberty. in the past 2 years our rear windows have malfunctioned. the first happened over 2 years ago on just the rear passenger side. just this year we had both rear (driver and passenger) windows fall. to get them fixed cost $350 a piece. this is the second time for the passenger side. i went to precision auto tune to fix it and when they called jeep for the part the person over there already knew it was a jeep liberty before my mechanic explained what model it was. my mechanic said there was no recall for this. my problem is that we rarely use those back windows and for them to malfunction like this is really concerning, especially for the one we already repaired. i hope there is something you all can find because this is really expensive. *tr

Without warning the body control module shorts out draining the battery and damaging the multi-control switch on the steering column. causing the headlights, interiorlights, running lights, windshield wipers, factory electric door locks, and dashboard lights to fail. this can cause a fire resulting in a total vehicle loss or loss of lighting at night while driving causing the driver to loose sight of the road. in rain conditions loss of wipers during driving would cause loss of visibility creating a dangerous driver on the road. *tr

Window breaks off track and will not stay in the rolled up position. this is due to a poor design of a plastic clip that attaches the window to the regulator. unfortunately i cant just buy the plastic clip you have to buy the regulator motor, track as one part. plus jeep will not fix the problem with the plastic clip, so all i can buy is the same flawed part. i live in north i think that it is pretty unsafe to have your windows falling down possibly in the middle of a blizzard. i wander how many accident have been caused buy people trying to hold up their window while driving?or what if the window falls down with a child in the back seat? *tr

The complaint that i'm contacting you about, is about vehicles that have non-adjustable headlights. i own a 2002 jeep liberty with non-adjustable headlights. after i purchased my jeep back in july, i took it to my mechanic to get the headlights adjusted being that on a clear night, visibility is extremely poor. i can actually drive with the headlights on high beam without impairing oncoming drivers vision. my mechanic informed me that the headlights on the jeep are non-adjustable. tonight i drove in light snow flurries and it was like i was driving in a severe snow storm. i'm a truck driver with 30 years experience and also recently had to drive a 2006 freightliner with non-adjustable headlights. the headlights on this truck actually formed an ( x ) 20 feet in front of the truck. meaning that the right headlight shown to the left side of the road and the left headlight shown to the right side of the road. just driving in rain, my visibility was very poor. the rule of thumb is to not to overdrive your headlights. with the truck, i should have been driving no faster than 30 mph at nighttime and my jeep isn't much better. please investigate this. the several mechanic's that i've spoke to, have informed me that a lot of manufacturer's are going to these kind of headlights. i'm planning on purchasing driving lights for my jeep, which i shouldn't have to do. thanks *tr

I was driving home and noticed my window for no reason fell down. the jeep was bought new by us in 2002. the back seats or windows have been rarely used. we use air and heat, so with the exception of the driver's window, we have hardly rolled down the other windows. i did research about the falling down on the jeep windows. i learned chrysler knew since 2002 about the defective windows. they finally recalled back some of the 2006 and 2007 jeeps. i called them and they do not seem concerned about the danger this could cause. i feel because of the little use of the window is why we have not had the problems several have had. they then proceed to charge you $500. to repair the window with the same kind of part that will break again. this has happened to several people. i asked chrysler about this part, they confess just recently they have changed the part to work. i see the danger this could be if hauling a young child. even though a child is to be in a child seat, they sometimes can get out. if driving down the road and the window just drops, a child could fall out. in a wreck this could endanger anyone. all the windows in the jeep have a problem of breaking for no reason, but mostly the back windows. chrysler is aware of this and should have recalled all these windows. they are bleeding the jeep owners by having to continue to repair the defective windows and are endangering people's life. they should be made accountable for the defective parts that they knew they had and continued to use. *tr

I have had to replace the power window regulators on the back windows of my jeep liberty 2002 on 5 different occasions. i have barely used these windows and this has been a hemorrhage of money. the first time this happened, they informed me at the dealership that i was over the date of warranty, and that my mileage also exceeded the limit. i had to replace the two back ones, then i had to go back and replace a third one, less than a year after that. the fourth and fifth time it happened, i went to an independent shop as going to the dealership was too expensive, now the window does not work again. the windows just fall, and water and debris come into the car. among jeep liberty owners, this is a very common problem, and one that there should have been a recall on. i want to place a complaint because this car came defective and nothing has been done so far to assist people who purchased it. customers need protection on this matter. *tr

I own a 2002 jeep liberty and have had to replace the window regulator 4 or 5 times. driving down the road the window just falls. this is very dangerous because it is shocking and can cause a wreck. the window falls all the way down into the door and there is nothing that you can do about it. you must repair immediately because your vehicle is not secure- theft, rain etc. if the windows are down the thump thump of the rear tires is excrutiating to your ears. each repair cost $350. to $500. chrysler and the dealerships are fully aware of this problem and refuse to do anything. they admit that this is a bad design (a plastic clip holds your window up) the part is only warranted for 12 months. on the consumer affairs website alone there were 93 complaints of this happening. most owners are just like me and have had to replace the regulator multiple times. chrysler should be made to recall any vehicle that has this regulator. no other parts are available except for mopar and the part has cost me $137. to $170. just for the part- no labor. this has happened to me while under warranty and out of warranty. now both rear windows broke within two days. i repair and next year the same thing will happen. i and any other jeep owner is keeping chrysler and mopar in business by these repairs. *tr

We drive a jeep liberty 2002 which we purchased at carmax in arlington,tx in 2006. despite having numerous problems with electric windows for which they had to replace under the extended warranty, we began to notice a loud popping sound coming from the front end when we make a hard left or right turn. we took the car to a service mechanic, diagnosed cv axles,ball-joint problems. attempt made to correct it in several occasions, but the problem re-occurred and getting more worrisome by the amount if time it happened in a day and 7 days/week. we also take noticed that we're not the only one (jeep owners) with this problem, we are tired to take the jeep to repair mechanics and truly, we feel unsafe to drive it on the freeway. what is the solution? will chrysler fix the problem? thanks *tr

Within a year and a half, i had three windshield replacements. insurance agent said with that many replacements, could be defect. every time jeep hit bump, would squeak. took two dealerships 5 attempts to fix. paint was peeling on grill, had repainted. jeep constantly pulls to the right. have had alignment and tire rotations, still not fixed. latest, all four aluminum wheels are corroding due to them being manufactured with aluminum and steel. according to the dealership, the rims have been redesigned, but because my mileage is over 36, 000 miles, they are charging to replace them even though a dealer at the same dealership was having the exact same problem and had his replaced at no cost. field district manager refuses to speak to me, who made the decision for me to pay. can someone please guide me in the right direction. i need help. cgray78@aol.com. *jb
