Airbag indicator light comes on when vehicle is started, and stays on for approximately 30 mins. the majority of the roads near me are 45mph or above, and with the high rollover rate of suv's i don't feel remotely safe knowing that at any minute my airbag can go off. i shouldn't have to feel like i'm driving a ticking time bomb of a death box. at this point i feel i don't even want the vehicle anymore and am thinking about trading it off, but i feel like chrysler should compensate me and other jeep liberty owners for having to do so. *tr

I bought my jeep off of my grandparents in october. its a really nice jeep, only has 69,000 miles. that's good for an 03. every car has its problems im sure. but mines on recall. i have had the airbag light come on and go off. and i comes on whenever it wants to. and it scares me because if the airbags go off, not only will i be mad, but you can bet, ill prob raise hell. because i don't fell save driving a car that has the potential to have the airbags go off. also i have noticed that the power lock on the drivers side works when i wants to. like i have to hit it a couple times to get it to work. not such a big deal. also the cd player doesn't work. like i've change all the fuses to try and get the door lock/cdplayer to work. and nothing changed. it make a really loud and annoying noise after the cd plays for awhile. that i don't car about. also one day i got in my jeep. i don't know how because the door was shut and locked, but on the drivers side, on the inside of the door. was nothing but ice. the door still opened and closed, no problem but, it looked like somebody took a gallon of water and dumped in down the inside of my door and it froze over. and that's the problems i've noticed with it. the only thing i care about is the whole air bag thing. i have received notice that it will be fixed, but will it be fixed for good. because i don't feel safe driving around and doing my daily things, knowing that i, or my family, or friends could get hurt from the airbags going off. so i hope that whatever the company is doing to fix it works, because everyday i get in my jeep, that's the only thing that is going threw my head. thanks *tr

Air bag light keeps coming on for no reason. online forums report it is not uncommon for 2002-2003 jeep airbags to deploy without warning. jeep does not offer free repair. i'm filing a complaint because i think this is something jeep should be responsible for. *tr

While driving the vehicle the airbag indicator light began to flash and an audible alarm sounded. now i am concerned that our vehicle has same defect with the airbags inadvertently inflating as being investigated by the nhtsa. the vehicle airbag system has never been deployed or serviced or replaced. *tr

My airbag light came on back in june. after reading about the un-intentional deployments i went to the dealer and ultimately had the passenger airbag replaced (in july). a week later the airbag light came on again (i have picture on phone). i took the vehicle back to the dealership and the dealer (of course light was off by then). dealer claimed no fault code was on computer and could not find issue (although i did show them iphone pic). light did stay off in aug/sept but within the past week the light has begun illuminating, staying on for a while, turning off for a while, and coming back on. the vehicle is garage kept at night but the temp has gotten cooler within the last couple weeks. not sure what to do except set the seat back a little more and cringe a bit. i wonder how loud an airbag deployment is? vehicle has approx. 31,700 miles.

Around february 2011, my airbag light started illuminating randomly for no apparent reason. it would come on, i would hear the chime, and then it would turn back off. eventually it began staying lit longer and longer until finally it stays on all at times. i can't recall if any certain speeds made any difference but it seemed like if i was to hit a bumpy part in the road or similar then i would either see the light come on or if it was already on, it would go off. now it never turns off. i haven't been to the dealer because i know the run around ill be given just as everyone else i've read about. i have researched how airbag systems operate and have slowly began my own process of determining what is the cause. only problem, every thing i read states that i should not play around with the airbag system and offers no info related to testing procedures. i work on cars and electronics often, so if i just had the correct information to feel safe, then i would surely try finding the problem myself. with this said, i shouldn't have to do this and i shouldn't have to wonder all the time, when is my airbag going to explode in my face. i'll remove the entire airbag system from the vehicle myself if chrysler doesn't react quickly. i replaced 2 window regulators. both in the back doors. such a common occurrence that they have created a repair kit so you don't have to purchase the window motor again. still the point is, you see these problems, stand up and do the right thing. we (consumers) are the reason you are able to make vehicles. also i don't know if this helps but i have replaced 2 batteries since 2008. i was starting to believe the drop in battery voltage may trigger the airbag light but that wasn't it. what is draining these batteries? alternator is charging around 14.5 volts. i can disc. battery, reconnect and radio stations are still saved. how? *tr

This vehicle has had electrical issues since i first bought it used 5 years ago. last week i was driving my son and two of his friends home from the beach. i was on the interstate when suddenly the air bag light came on, stayed on for a minute or so, went out, then blinked a few times. i got a creepy feeling and decided to do a search. i am glad i did. i can't believe chrysler has not recalled these jeeps, i think they are going to be paying a lot more in pi claims than it would cost to do the right thing and fix the problem. i am afraid to use my car!!! i called hall jeep here in virginia beach and was told to bring it in so they could do an electrical check on the vehicle. [xxx], the girl i spoke with in the service department told me to drive it up there. i told her i was afraid to after reading about the injuries that have been incurred when the driver and sometimes passenger side air bags deploy for no reason. i am 5'2 tall and must sit close to the steering wheel, increasing the chance of injury or even death. she told me that even i said that the risk of it happening was small, when i asked her how i said that her response was you said there have only been 87 incidents and there are thousands of them on the road !!!!! i told her it should only take one for them to be alarmed. she then suggested i have it towed - at my expense of course. this is just unsatisfactory and i will never buy another chrysler product! my husband has been looking at the dodge ram truck but now i am reading about some life threatening issues with them, too! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was stopped at a red light during rush hour at ~4:20pm waiting to get on the freeway (san felipe and feeder road of 610 / houston, tx). my a/c was running but the radio was off. i heard the warning chime from the dash board and noticed my airbag warning light had come on. roughly 5 seconds later while still stopped at the red light, both the driver and passenger side airbags spontaneously deployed. after the shock, i noticed my hazard lights automatically had come on and i think the engine had shut off. i put the car in park and exited the vehicle. since my hands were on steering wheel during deployment they received the most direct blunt force trauma along with chemical burns (i later went to emergency room that evening). the car was towed to the nearest chrysler dealership. luckily i was not on the freeway traveling 70mph when it happened.

I was inyured from unexpected airbag deployment jeep liberty 2003. happend to me yesterday, april 16, 2012. thank god i was driving slowly away from my driveway. i heard a beep, look at the dashboard and saw the airbag light on. my reaction was to put my foot on the break, to lean back and my instinct made me to lift my left arm to cover my face. boom!!! - loud explotion, pain in my arm and covered with a cloud of powder/dust. it took me a couple of seconds to realized what happend. the drivers airbag exploted without any reason at all. seatbelt locked. i turned back to see if my 8 year old son was ok. desoriented, confused, eyes wide open, but ok. just thinking the tragedy it could have been 1 minute later on the highway, definetly a bad accident and many lives compromised.

This vehicle now has 67000 miles on it. the air bag light intermittently came on at 63000 when hitting small pot holes in the road, then it finally came on and stayed on. i took this vehicle to the dealer and they told me that both modules failed that are in the driver and passager seat, and it would cost me $557.31 to have it fixed. i called chysler about this for some help with the cost to have it repaired, but they said no, i should maybe call you and file a complaint, so i am asking you to intervene with chysler on my behalf. according to the internet at bailey car.com/recalls, nhtsa said there have been injuries from the unexpected front bag deployments. i was lucky that i had my airbag light problem checked before the airbags unexpectedly deployed. because there are several consumers like me out there that are unknowingly subject to serious injuries, i feel that you should request that jeep recall all the 2002 and 2003 liberty jeeps for this malfunction.

My husband was taking his son back to his mothers house running about 55mph when a large buck came out in front of them. the hood and grill was smashed in with the radiator against the motor. it was still drivable but wasn't able to hold water to keep from overheating. there was no airbags deployed upon impact. the insurance says it must be a large accident for the airbags to deploy. the jeep is not totaled because the agent said he was trying not to total it out since we were so close to having it paid off. i don't understand why the airbags wouldn't deploy on such a hard impact. you can see the skid marks for about 20 feet. there is deer hair stuck into the hood of the jeep. i have been in a couple accidents before and they weren't as serious as this but the airbags did deploy. there needs to be something done for the airbags to deploy upon impact.

Yesterday early evening, i was driving about 60mph on a highway in garland, texas, when all of a sudden my airbag deployed without cause. there was no impact to the car at the time of deployment, sudden stop or anything that would impact the deployment. it deployed, i lost control of my vehicle and went to the shoulder of the highway. no events that would lead to the deployment, not even the light that indicates air bag. it is now lit because it deployed, i'm assuming. this is the first time it has happened. the deployment of the airbag caused burns on my arm and a swollen wrist. i will take the vehicle into the dealership soon. nothing has been done yet.
