| Driver's seat heater felt extremely hot against my back while driving. leaned forward and smelled a burning odor, also felt jacket and back of seat which were both extremely hot and immediately turned off the heated seats. upon arriving at work,got out of the vehicle and saw the front seat leather against where my back was had been burned, as well as the back of my jacket. called the chrysler recall phone number and was told that although there was a recall for the jeep grand cherokee for the heated seats malfunctioning and overheating, that there was not a recall available for the same problem with the jeep liberty. because the vehicle's warranty is expired, they said they will not cover expenses due to repairs. i then called my local dealer, who also said i would be responsible for repairs since there is not a recall for this model of jeep. upon searching the web, there are numerous accounts of other jeep liberties with this issue, including a court case that was filed 10/29/12 for a 2004 jeep liberty which the heated seats generated dangerously high temperatures in which a consumer endured third degree burns. this is a serious safety issue, which could potentially cause a fire or injury to consumers. *tr | |||

| Vehicle indicated that passenger front door was ajar, this after ten minutes of driving. door was in fact not ajar. passenger opened and closed door just to check, door then would no longer fully close. pulled manual lock to see if it was stuck, whole piece came out. smoke started pouring out of hole and door metal was very hot to the touch. removed door panel to put out fire inside. lock actuator motor melted down and parts were smoldering. during this process the electronic back glass popped open as well and will no longer latch either. chrysler recalled some 2004 liberty's for these motors overheating and seizing, was informed that this vehicle was not included and that we should have 'maintained the wiring in the door'. this vehicle is meticulously maintained! *tr | |||

| When trying to roll down front driver window, it made noise and cable worm came up in between glass and door jam, flapping on inside of window. window still worked but the cable wire would come loose sometimes and window would either not roll all the way down, or not roll down at all and other times would roll down just fine. i rolled the window down the other day and the cable wire came flapping up while the window glass is stuck inside the door. had to pry window out of door and tape shut. window motor still makes sound but no longer operates window. | |||

| All lights, (including headlamps), intermittently turn off. this has happened 3 times already, all at night while driving 65-70 mph on the highway. the first occurrence was around july, 2009. the last occurrence was last night, june 7, 2010. nothing but pitch blackness when they went off. had to try to steer car to side of road. if you turn the headlamp on/off a few times or jiggle the control it will turn on/off and then stay on. this is pretty dangerous. this is my daughter's car and i will not let her drive it anymore as a result. | |||

| My husband is a mechanic. he and his employer were trying to maneuver a 2004 jeep liberty into the work stall from the parking lot. the jeep had a broken ball joint (a condition that they later found was under recall notice) and would not steer, so my husband was guiding it with a floor jack while his boss was behind the wheel, braking when necessary to help control forward momentum. the vehicle was idling. this is standard procedure, one carried out many times by both men. both men have at least 25 years of experience each as auto mechanics. there is a lip just at the door of the shop to prevent water from coming in, and when the jeep came to this lip, the vehicle tipped slightly, and the right front tire touched the ground. instantly, the engine revved and the vehicle jumped forward at full power. the boss literally stood as hard as he could on the brake but to no effect. the vehicle left a long black skid line behind it where the back tires were trying to brake, but the front tires were continuing to accelerate. my husband was hit and dragged fifteen feet then crushed against an upright support. according to both mechanics, the front wheels should not have had power to them, since the vehicle was not in four-wheel drive and cannot put itself into four-wheel drive: a lever must be raised manually. my husband had to be life flighted to emmanuel hospital where he was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, broken nose, broken collarbone, nine broken ribs, and a broken ankle. he also suffered general crushing of most of his body. a broken left rib was diagnosed two weeks later. the jeep was taken to a local chrysler dealership for repair of the broken ball joint and the transmission pan, damaged in the accident. *tr | |||

| I reside in southern california, we were experiencing thunder showers earlier in the day. i went to a 5 hour class, upon returning the horn was blaring, i could not stop it so i had to take the fuse out. then i started the car but the gauges were acting strange. i had a half a tank of fuel but it was reading as if i had a full tank, then the engine light was on, after i got home i shut of the ignition but the car would not shut off. my car is a manual, 4 cylinder, with no power amenities it is a basic car, no air conditioning. it is just a 2004 jeep liberty. after i popped the clutch lightly to stop the engine my lights would not go off. it was not a major storm just a quick shower, it makes me worry quite a bit because this is my main vehicle and if just a little moisture causes havoc what if i was in the snow what kind of problems would it create. another thing since a light shower caused havoc what does this do to the electrical on my air bags? *jb | |||

| For a month or so the key had been getting stuck in the ignition and you would have to start the car and turn it back off to get the key out. one night we were sitting in car trying to get it to start. the jeep wouldn't start and within seconds smoke was coming out from the top of the hood. there was 3 adults in the jeep and 2 children. we all got out and within a minute there was flames dropping from the bottom, then within the next few seconds flames were coming up over the hood. the fire department was called and the fire was put out. we were all safe but the jeep ended up being totaled. i was told that the wires to the battery overheated and caught fire. i believe this was a result of something to do with the key getting stuck in the ignition. *tr | |||

| I returned home late on evening after an evening of shopping, dinner, & movie. i parked my car in the garage and ten minutes later heard a loud whoosh sound. i went to the garage to investigate and saw white smoke. after opening the garage door to dissipate the smoke i looked around the car. i did not see any problem with the tires or leaking fluids. i did see black singe marks along the edge of the hood and black dust over the hood. the fire department & sheriff were called. the firemen determined that a fire occurred under the hood of the car and, miraculously, put itself out. they also determined that a loose wire was arcing with the alternator and disconnected the battery. they ruled the cause of the fire as faulty electrical wiring. the car is 3.5 months old with just under 3000 miles on it. my brother-in-law, who is a retired mechanic, went with me to the dealership to pick up my things from the car and get a loaner car. he could see that the line going from the compressor ruptured during the fire. he speculated that the whoosh sound i heard was ac refrigeration escaping when the line ruptured and that the fluids extinguished the fire. i am waiting for an inspector from chrysler to look at the car. i have an incident file open with chrysler, #12193081. i also have the report from sheriff. since this just happened, no resolution has been determined. *la | |||
