Window regulator on rear diver's side door failed. regulator failure prevented the rear diver's side door from opening and made the door inoperable as an exit.

This is the fourth time that i have had a window regulator problem. the second time on the same window. i have heard that it is caused from overuse but the only window regulator that has not yet needed to be replaced is my driver window which is the one i use the most! this obviously has nothing to do with it. it is simply a faulty part that they do not feel is significant enough to find a permanent solution for. i fear that it will happen when i am on vacation or something and a storm will ruin my car without my knowing or my car will be broken into or even stolen. i know there are many other people with the same issues happening multiple times but not everyone knows to report it. i hope that enough people complaining about the same faulty part will make them do something about it.

My jeep recently was unable to start the engine. it was fine just the night before with no indication of a problem, but in the morning i turned the key and all i got was a click at the relay; the starter never engaged and the engine would not turn over. after much diagnosis it was discovered the problem was due to the end breaking off of a small metal cylinder which rotates to engage the starter; the cylinder is located on the left underside of the steering column. i was informed by the mechanic that the cylinder, nor the housing containing the cylinder, is sold as a separate part... i was forced to replace the entire steering column assembly to the tune of $300 (the labor was another $200, and a new ignition cylinder an additional $30), to fix this one small part that probably cost about $5 to make. in my research online, i found that this is a common, well-known problem with jeeps, with many people complaining on forums about the same issue. the only action i knew to take was to file a complaint here to hopefully initiate a recall of this part so that it either a) is replaced with a part made of better material so as to stop so many from breaking, and b) stops leaving people stranded with a non-working vehicle with no warning whatsoever.

 1) wiring harness failed--rear lights not operable/functional. vehicle crash possible because car not visible by other drivers at night. 2) gear shift sticks causing inability to put car in park. roll-away imminent. causing crash.

While driving down the interstate, i heard a clunk. my back window behind driver had slipped down. i called my personal mechanic, not dealer, and he diagnosed it over the phone as the regulator. he told me it was common in jeeps. while at the mechanic's, another customer said her father's jeep had done the same thing. the mechanic told me to be glad that my window did not break. i was charged to replace the regulator $300. i have no children and my back window is never used. too many people have spent hundreds of dollars for this repair. this is definitely an inferior product and should be recalled. customers should not be expected to pay for this repair. i only hope i can get rid of my jeep before i have another window regulator fail!!!

I have had to replace both back passenger window systems. both went down with seemingly no cause and it cost hundreds to repair each. no one ever rides in the back of my car. this should not happen, but i understand it's common in these vehicles. should not be allowed by consumer protection.

The rear window on the driver's side fell down for no reason. i pressed the switch it did not move. i pulled it up by hand but it would fall right down. i took it to the jeep dealer thinking it would be under warranty but they charged me. two years later it happened again on the same window. i paid for it again. since, they fixed it last time they scratched the glass and i cannot open the door from the inside. i am single and 99.9% of the time i am the only one in the car. the window does not even get used and it fails. the window was not used once since the second replacement and it has failed again for a third time. the second time i was at the jeep dealer to have it replaced the service advisor even said to me that this happens all the time on these vehicles. well, then why isn't something being done about it? when you read the internet you will find that all jeep liberty's from 2002 to 2007 have this problem. the part was not engineered correctly and does not hold up. the part is clearly defective. you will be driving along and all of a sudden you hear air rushing in behind you. chrysler needs to be forced to fix it because otherwise, they will not do it. they knowingly sold a defective product which is fraud and it is illegal. your jeep is never secure and is unsafe. i travel into the city every day and have to fear that when i walk out my window will be down and i will be robbed or someone can just reach in and get in my car because the window is down and kill me, attack me or rob me. this does not even include the numerous other problems: belt tensioner defective, ball joints bad, rear window not working, roof rack lose and faded, windshield leaking, electrical issue, horn stuck on just to name some of the problems i have experienced. every year or two jeep expects you to pay hundreds of dollars to have a defective part fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. the vehicle was then towed to a local mechanic where he was advised that the ignition switch and steering column would need to be replaced. there was no electrical current passing through the starter and the mechanic advised that there were aluminum pieces that fractured in the steering column and caused the failure. the vehicle was not repaired because the parts needed were on backorder. the contact believed that the manufacturer was ignoring the issue which he stated was a severe safety issue. in addition, the contact stated that the transmission was replaced twice since owning the vehicle. the failure mileage was 85,100. the vin was not available.

As a single mother of baby twins, i am both completely freaked out as well as gratefully relieved to have found this site. the complaints read like a checklist of past issues and god willing, preventable future issues. the gas tank cannot be topped off... all things considered, this was a seemingly acceptable issue. the engine light coming on accompanied by totally unexplained stalling every so often became a problem which would cease just as randomly as it occured. finally (when pregnant and nervous) i brought it in after one too many times. apparently this jeep model/year is weather sensitive. rain seemed to be the catalyst, but i refuse to put one of those anal person car covers on becoming a slave to the weatherchannel. mechanic changed temperemental sensor which, so far, seems to be managed. the a/c fan only works at 3 and up, which is too much hot/cold for even the most anemic after more than five minutes. back to the weather, winter causes front struts to creak and moan like a geriatric beast. once again, this is annoying but seemingly innocous. four wheel drive shift only works in part time hi (or low, don't recall), which is disappointing though again, not life threatening. the combination of these defects simply feels as if it was built with indifference to the consumer. now that i have two priceless passengers, i refuse to wait for the cv joints to disengage before demanding all repairs be made and double checked by my implicitly trusted mechanic (ironically also a twin). in closing, thank you to all who contributed their stories and enlightening me to caution regarding the dangerous flaws as well as commiserating our shared frustration with the problems, like the window track disengaging, which combined are one big expensive potentiallly dangerous headache.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. a week after purchasing the vehicle, the check engine light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle has been to the dealer five times due to spark plug failures. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times because the cruise control would shut off, the dial on the speedometer gauge would go to zero, the odometer would freeze, and the check engine light would illuminate. currently, the speedometer dial remains at zero, the odometer is stuck at 29,647, and the cruise control does not work. the overhead console has failed and does not keep accurate information at any time. the dealer currently has the vehicle. the failure mileage was unknown.

2005 jeep liberty crd will sling shot itself when starting from a stop with the a/c on. when you start to accelerate making a turn from being stopped the vehicle will start to move and you can feel, hear the engine gaining rpm but not movement then a sudden slingshot effect will take place. the selling dealer said it was normal for a diesel engine with a turbo to do this. also stated it was in the electronics and there wasn't any thing they could do to repair it. i would have to wait for a factory bulletin to come out. this new vehicle pulls to the right constantly, i requested the alignment to be corrected during the same dealership visit as above. i was told my alignment was checked and there was no abnormal tire wear so it must be the crown of the road causing the pull or drift. this vehicle also surges when the cruise control is engaged and you start up an incline, it will continue to surge as long as the incline lasts. after picking the vehicle up at the dealership today i started home and all three of the faults occurred. i returned to the dealership and the shop foreman went with me , where the vehicle again acted up. he said there was not any thing they could do about the surging and the alignment and the sling shotting was turbo lag. i have not diven the vehicle on wet or snow covered pavement, however, with what does i not sure i want to.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION
03/31/200612500507/12/2005
Failure to start- using key and remote starter. when the key was turned, it went all the way over and the engine did not crank, no noises from battery- just nothing. this occurred twice over a two month period, usually after about 15-20 minutes it would start. recently the problem has progressed from failing to start,to the bigger problem of dying when it is running. the vehicle will be running and all of a sudden dies with no warning. this is a safety hazard as it can happen at any time, at any speed. the dealership has had the vehicle now for a week and cannot duplicate the problem. the car has just over 14,000 miles on it and should not be having these problems. i do not feel safe in my own vehicle. *nm
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION - SWITCH
08/26/20093051781
I have a 2005 jeep liberty whose ignition switch just failed. had it towed and the ignition switch must be replaced (which is under warranty), but it entails also exchanging the steering column (which, is not under warranty). they are telling me that i have to pay $800.00 to fix this my warranty which is still under effect that components not listed are not covered unless required as a direct result of the failure of a covered component. having read complaint after complaint with jeep liberties starting with year 2002 to present, it becomes obvious that this is a serious defect and it appears jeep has done nothing to rectify this problem and is coercing people (even under warranty) to pay for this. the parts are not even immediately available. this has not been resolved yet, but i think it is serious to note the incident. thank you *tr

Car would start and die off after 1-2 minutes ( as in lack of fuel). there had also been electronic throttle control warning light flashing occasionally. to re-start, the fuel primer (located on filter head) had to be pumped. i read on www.lostkjs.com forum in the crd section that air might leak into the filter head, causing these symptoms. i noticed that the fuel heater plug located in the filter head was moist. i pulled the plug and heard a air-sucking sound. the plug contained a male part of what is obviously a burned-out fuel heater, which has made a hole into the filter head. a picture can be seen at the following link: http://www.pandkindustries.com/images/fuelheaterbusted.jpg i will be contacting the dealer and having the filter head replaced. the design is obviously faulty; any air collecting in the filter head leaves this heating element outside of the fuel allowing it to over-heat. over-heating the fuel heating element can further warp/damage the already leaky filter head. filter elements obviously will burn out over time. apparently, these fuel heater elements are constantly activated. air in the system can cause stalls at dangerous time (when accelerating and highway speeds. worse, burning-out heater elements and fuel leaks could lead to fire! *tr

2005 jeep liberty crd diesel engine started running sporadically. smell of burning plastic and diesel was present inside vehicle. pulled over and opened hood, to find boiling diesel steam coming from heater electrical port on fuel head. plug was discolored with heat. drove home, ordered new fuel head and replaced with new oem part. 2 months later, the engine started stumbling while driving on the highway and died on highway. coasted to side of road, managed to eventually restart, and made it home. opened hood and found leaking fuel head, from heater socket, diesel fuel draining from plug port at rate of about an oz per minute. electrical plug was burned up, pins electrical pin on inside of fuel heater port destroyed.

My 2005 jeep liberty was running rough, so i pulled over to investigate. i opened the hood, but couldn't see much in the dark. i went around to the passenger side to retrieve a flashlight and as i opened the glove box, i saw flames from under the vehicle. i reached to shut the hood and then called 911 for the fire department. unknown reason for the start of the fire. other notes: i had previously filled the tank earlier in the day. in july the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service and a factory recall on the emissions system. months earlier the car had been taken to the dealer for routine service and i complained of a fuel odor, which they were unable to identify. *jb

Tempurature gauage indicates vehicle is overheating. chrysler says vehicle will not overheat, the problem is in the gauge. no known repair for the problem. it is still unknown if it is a gauge or engine problem
