I was leaving my bank and entered my vehicle and proceeded to start it with my key. my key turned and would not start my vehicle. my battery is about a 1 month old and i checked to see if there was a loose connection or corrosion (connection tight and no corrosion). i checked all fluids (fine), i just had oil, oil filter and breather filter changed a few weeks ago and they check all fluids. i turned lites, wipers, turn signals and radio on (worked fine), horn worked. with my key in the ignition, i had no problem turning the steering wheel. i opened my driver's door and saw it show up as door on the dash panel and noticed engine lite on. i depressed and held brake pedal down and was able to shift to neutral and back to park with no problem. i had a friend come and look at my liberty, and he checked and did everything i did. we both thought it was the ignition switch. i informed the bank that i was having car problems and have to leave it in their parking lot over nite. i had the jeep liberty towed to a jeep dealership in stuart florida the next day (12/12/2012). they informed me that the pin in the ignition switch broke off and fell inside and that they would need to replace the whole steering column. and it would cost over $1000.00. i was informed the next day (12/13/2012) that they could not locate a new steering column and that they would need to replace the steering column with a used one. now it will cost $800.00. i researched and noticed that other jeep liberty owners have had problems with the ignition switch. i hope i am not being scammed. my jeep liberty has about 50000 miles on it. as i think about it, wouldn't the ignition switch need to be replaced and not the whole steering column? my jeep is still at the dealership and i hope to get it back on 12/17/2012. *tr

At this first occurrence, while pulling out of the dealership parking lot with the vehicle, the front passenger side window dell into the door. i took it back and they informed me they would fix it free of charge. this same problem with the window falling down occurred in june 2010 about a year after purchase, affecting the right rear window, which had not even been used. i found out then that there was an ongoing problem with the window regulator in 2006 & 2007 jeep libertys causing this problem. the 3rd occurrence, with the left rear window in november of 2010, made me get online and file this report after carmax refused to honor their warranty on this repair and sent me to jeep who charged 100 dollars for it. checking the service history through jeep.com, i found that this vehicle had been in the shop for this problem at least twice with the previous owner. i would like for the chrysler company to take full responsibility for this and issue a recall, repairing the problem in a way that it stays fixed, rather than replacing the window regulator with more faulty parts as they have been doing. this can be very dangerous and distracting if it falls while travelling down the highway or, in my case, over 2 hours from home in freezing temperatures with a 7 month old baby in the seat by the window.

The power window on the right rear and the left rear doors have failed. the regulator was defective on the right rear door and was repaired by the dealer while under warranty but it still cost me $100. now the left rear power window does not want to raise the window and it is no longer under warranty.

This has caused great inconvenience, not to mention concern. i'm a single mom of a toddler and the rear driver's side window regulator of my 2006 jeep liberty broke. i don't open this window often, since my passenger is in the back alone. i now have to collect $500+ to repair this problem that can become very serious, very quickly. in addition, my car is now accessible to vandals. is chrysler waiting for a very serious accident to occur before approving this recall? being proactive can save a life or a body part for that matter!

On wednesday, september 5, 2007, at approximately 8:30pm both my husband and i got in our 2006 jeep liberty with only 9,188 miles to drive home. upon turning on the vehicle we turned up the air conditioner and heard a grinding sound. unsure of what the noise was, my husband turned down the air for a moment. as he turned the air back up the blower fan fell out of the dashboard and into the foot area of the passenger front seat where i was sitting. the blower fan was still turning as it made contact with my feet because it did not detach from the electrical wiring. the blower fan continued running until my husband shut off the vehicle. due to the fact that i was wearing sandals when the blower fan fell out of the dashboard my toes were severely lacerated and suffered abrasions. these injuries required me to seek medical attention. due to this injury i have had to miss work, as it is not possible for me to wear shoes, stand for any length of time, or sit without elevating my feet. this incident along with other multiple faulty window components, all of which are warranty items, cause us concern. particularly since the blower fan was a recalled part and had recently been replaced. we no longer feel that this vehicle is safe to operate and have contacted chrysler headquarters customer service call center for assistance and are awaiting an inspection. *tr

I have a 2003 jeep liberty sport and i was recently driving it when the entire system completely shut down. i was able to pull over to the side of the road. it restarted and i went a little further and it completely shut down again. i lost power to steering and was fortunately able to guide it off the main highway without any power. it would not continue running after that. it would start but then shut down right off. i ended up having it towed to a jeep dealership where i found out two sensors in the computer had gone bad. i had to pay to have the sensors replaced in addition to the tow. i am concerned about what would have happened if i had been on an interstate going at a high rate of speed and those sensors would have gone bad causing me to lose power in traffic. i wonder if some fatalities and injuries have resulted from this situation with other vehicles. i think its a very dangerous situation and jeep should be investigated to see if they are using defective sensors in the jeep liberty. i only have 65 thousand miles on this vehicle and i am concerned about taking it on any lengthy trips. i feel its a danger on the highways with these sensors. *nm

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION

Key is stuck in ignition which is unsafe to leave vehicle unattended at any time, my dealer has advised me that the problem is the gear shifter and since the vehicle is easily shifted into gear without a key it could have rolled away if placed in the neutral or drive gear. *tr

Key stuck in the ignition and unable to remove. had to remove gear shift console and push in a metal piece so that car computer would register that the car was in park. *tr

When i parked my 2006 jeep liberty and attempted to turn the key and pull it out of the ignition, the key would not come out. it would go no further than the lock position. it appears that the shifting cable that reads when the car is in park and enables one to remove the key had failed and was not reading that my car was actually in park. i had to press the cable down in order to remove my key. i did a google search for the problem and it appears to be a common problem for the 2004-2006 jeep liberty. now my shifter does not stop between gears, it simply slides through them without having to press the button that would normally lock them in place. i can shift from reverse to park without pressing the break and without pushing the button. in order to pull my key out i have to take the cover off and press down on the cable. now that i noticed it is a common problem with other jeep liberty's, i think a recall is in order. *tr

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - WIRING
11/02/2006109/29/2005
My liberty has 3 recalls, 2 having do with big safety issues- fire and tires detaching. i first called planet dodge (miami, fl) for service appt.; gave vin and advised of recalls- surprise! when i arrived for my appointment; they said the parts were on back order! today i called tamiami jeep to make an appointment and was told 1) it's very dangerous as tires may detach 2) they have some parts, but not some bolt, if that is required! question- if these are mandatory recalls and on such potentially safety compromising parts- how can the parts be on back order for 3 months!! (this will be my first visit to tamiami for service appt-but was already advised not all parts available- what's the use of making a appointment if they is a nationwide of a part to repair a recall? what happens if my tires detach or my car has underbody fire as per my most recent notice? i would appreciate a reply via email and i would like somebody to investigate how service departments can run out of parts that have mandatory recalls. i was not told at planet dodge how serious this was and have been driving around waiting for the parts to arrive.(lower ball joint). *nm
