AQ10001CHRYSLER GROUP LLC11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

While driving a passanger on the rear left side of my car attempted to roll down the window. we then heard a pop and the window was half way down and began to fall. we were able to keep the window from falling into the door. the motor continued to sound as if it was working but would not allow the window to go up or down. approximately 6 months later the rear right side window was being rolled down and we again heard a popping sound and the window again would not roll up or down. after research it seems that this is a common occurance and due to having two out of four windows on my car alone experience this problem it seems very strange to me that this has not been issued as a recall and is costing owners of these vehicles over $400 per window to fix this problem. this is a safety hazard for the risk of someone breaking in to a vehicle and also the risk of the window falling and breaking putting anyone in the back seat of the vehicle at risk of injury, including my daughter.

I was leaving my bank and entered my vehicle and proceeded to start it with my key. my key turned and would not start my vehicle. my battery is about a 1 month old and i checked to see if there was a loose connection or corrosion (connection tight and no corrosion). i checked all fluids (fine), i just had oil, oil filter and breather filter changed a few weeks ago and they check all fluids. i turned lites, wipers, turn signals and radio on (worked fine), horn worked. with my key in the ignition, i had no problem turning the steering wheel. i opened my driver's door and saw it show up as door on the dash panel and noticed engine lite on. i depressed and held brake pedal down and was able to shift to neutral and back to park with no problem. i had a friend come and look at my liberty, and he checked and did everything i did. we both thought it was the ignition switch. i informed the bank that i was having car problems and have to leave it in their parking lot over nite. i had the jeep liberty towed to a jeep dealership in stuart florida the next day (12/12/2012). they informed me that the pin in the ignition switch broke off and fell inside and that they would need to replace the whole steering column. and it would cost over $1000.00. i was informed the next day (12/13/2012) that they could not locate a new steering column and that they would need to replace the steering column with a used one. now it will cost $800.00. i researched and noticed that other jeep liberty owners have had problems with the ignition switch. i hope i am not being scammed. my jeep liberty has about 50000 miles on it. as i think about it, wouldn't the ignition switch need to be replaced and not the whole steering column? my jeep is still at the dealership and i hope to get it back on 12/17/2012.

In august of 2011 my rear passanager window fell down while i was driving. august nov 20 2012 my window again fell down where my infant sits and its the start of winter. i understand there is an issue with this on models 2004-2007 however they are not covering this as a recall. this is clearly a safety issue. the manager bill said that he pretty much didnt care neither did gloria the csr rep whom hung up on me when she said she was going to put me on hold after 10 min or brenda who said that they just don't do good this kind of service for people.

This is the 3rd time in 5 years that the ds rear window regulator has failed causing the window to slide down the track. the lastest occurrence happened while driving down the freeway at 60 mph. the window was not being operated at the time of the failure.

Left rear power window regulator failed causing window to fall. inability to closed window creates cabin pressure oscillations at all speeds. the pressure oscillations create a distraction to the driver and impair the driver's hearing.

Right rear power window regulator failed causing window to fall. inability to close window creates cabin pressure oscillations at all speeds. these pressure changes are intense and cause a distraction and limit driver's hearing.

This is the 2nd time i have accessed your website with a complaint for the same problem.. i reported my other complaint on 09/20/2010. my rear windows just fall down for no reason. on 8/15/12 i walked out and noticed my rear driver side car window was down. when i tried to put it up, it just made a grinding noise. it just slips down into the window space leaving me with an open window while driving down the interstate in the rain. the same thing happened two years ago to both rear windows to the same vehicle. i was told by the dealership there was a defect in the 2006 jeep libertys where this happens. it appears the windows and part that raises and lowers the window is one unit which is made of plastic. apparently it is very cheap and fragile and breaks for no reason. you have to buy the whole window/mechanical assembly and it is very expensive. please help me get my window fixed.

The window regulators in my 2006 jeep liberty have broken and fallen down 10 different times in the past 4 years that i have owned the vehicle. the first 9 times were bothersome and about 450.00 each to get fixed but this last one is a safety hazard. i have a 10 week old baby and the window decided to fall down in the middle of a storm and i had to pull over on the interstate to pull the window back up to stop the flood of rain that was falling on my (at the time) 8 week old baby. my baby was screaming his head off as i am sure that much rain coming in the wide opened window at 50-60 (was driving slower due to low visibility in storm) miles an hour did not feel good. i had to find the right time to pull off the road then climb in back, undo car seat, slide it over and duct tape the window. i was alone and then had to reattach the car seat to the base and dry off my infant. i am thankful that no one hit us while i was parked on the interstate in a rainstorm with my child not buckled in to the car. i was in a panic trying to fix this. now jeep is refusing to fix this free of charge due to lack of recall. please make them recall this defective part so this does not happen again. i live in mobile, al and it is scorching hot and i can't be driving him around with the window down. also, it doesn't stay up for more than a day with the duct tape because of the heat melting the glue on the tape. it's just dangerous.

The windows on my jeep liberty fall from the track for no reason. they fall when i don't even use them. they have been fixed at least 5 times since i have owned the jeep. the new part that they install is apparently defective because they only last for a year and then they break again. this should be listed as a recall since i have seen thousands of owners of this jeep complain about the same problem, some having fixed the windows 12 or more times. this is a safety issue as well because the windows suddenly falling down for no reason can cause loss of control and also a safety issue that someone can reach in your car and harm you or creat a carjacking issue. this problem needs to be addressed immediately.

I have reviewed that there are have been multiple complaints regarding faulty window regulators on these particular chrysler vehicles. these plates in the window regulators give out causing the auto glass to slide down inside the door. i have had to have both rear regulators replaced twice and recently my front passenger regulator gave out. i have had 3 regulators replaced prior to my vehicle reaching 30,000 miles. my recent issue: my front window began to lower on its on while i was driving when i attempted to raise the window with the switch it then immediately fell down inside the door causing rain/hail to enter my vehicle while i was driving. i contacted chrysler and they have offered no solution stating there is no recall for this part even though there are numerous consumer complaints about the faulty regulators.

While driving with my daughter, i pushed the button to close the open sunroof and heard a loud popping noise. a part flew off of the vehicle and the sunroof would no longer close. after taking it to the dealership, it was determined that the entire module failed and needed replacing. i only had 37,500 miles on the vehicle. this repair cost over $1000 and had to be done as a security issue would exist with an open sunroof that is not able to be closed. contacted chrysler jeep and they refuse to cover any of the cost for this defective part.

The rear window regulators in the 06 jeep liberty are failing at an alarming rate. ours has had both break once and the drives side twice now. i have contacted jeep with my frustrations with zero help. there are countless claims online, with friends, acquaintances, and even my local jeep dealer (easton, md) that all support that this is not an isolated issue. i have again been told that there will be no recall because this is not a safety issue. i disagree strongly!! when driving down the highway and the window regulator fails, the window drops. what happens if there is something leaning up against the window, a child in that seat, a pet? the risks are huge to the safety of the vehicle occupants and others on the road should something fall out. the other thing that is very alarming is that everything is beginning to present itself at a similar time for the vehicles showing signs of the problem. jeep claims it is due to plastic parts failing due to not enough use?? this makes no sense. to support my claim that this is an issue affecting a large number of people and clearly not an isolated issue, please see the web sites listed below. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f28/jeep-liberty-window-problems-solutions-947700/ http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/liberty/2006/windows_windshield/window_regulator_breaks.shtml http://www.edmunds.com/jeep/liberty/2006/consumer-reviews.html http://www.jeepproblems.com/problems/window-regulator.shtml http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler/ti82j9au88ko7ljq2/p9 thank you for your time and consideration.

Windows falling into door. since i purchased the vehicle, all of the windows at one time or another have fallen into the door, some of them 2 times. i have has them fixed 7 times. window regulator needing to be replaced.

Window regulator broke costing me $210. chysler refused to reemburse me because my vehicle was made in december 2005 prior to the extention of the warranty for the same problem effective march 2006. also, i am the third owner. this is a known factory defect and is not a wear issue or a maintenance problem. this should not happen period.

My 2006 jeep liberty's back driver's side window regulator is broken. the window will not stay up and falls down part way when you are driving and needs to be pulled back up manually when you stop. when you press the button for the window, you can hear the window motor running, but the window will not go up. this happened when the vehicle had just over 48,000 miles. this seems to be a very common complaint for the 2006 jeep liberty and an extended warranty has been issued by chrysler to repair 2006 jeep libertys with this problem which were manufactured after march, 2006. my jeep was manufactured in feb. of 2006. this window regulator warranty needs to be extended to all 2006 jeep libertys. according to comments on the internet, this repair can be $400 and up.

I purchased my 2006 jeep liberty in may 2011, however i have to windows that just stopped working. the windows just fail completely down without any warning one while i was driving which could have schatter and hurt my passenger. i contacted the chysler jeep manufacture comppliant line but they were no help. i was given a phone number to a dealership and was told i have warranty on the windows that only cover the list plate (if that's the problem) for my back window only. the problem after researching it this morning on the internet is the regulators in the windows which are very costly to repair approx. $260 per window. in this economy i can't afford to repair this and i should not have to because there is some kind of mal-function with the parts inside of the windows. they need to recall these vehicles because owner of them will spend money repairing the same proble at least 3 to 4 times in one year.

The window regulator of my rear driver's side window broke causing the window to fall into the door. luckily my car was parked at the time and i don't live in an area that is getting snowed on. this is at least the 12th time one of the regulators has broke since i bought my car in 2006.

Driving down the road at 40 mph. was not rolling up or down the power windows, when the back window suddenly fell from being closed to half open. it would not roll back up. it was startling and distracted my driving momentarily. faulty regulators were the cause of previous failures and the broken glass and i expect the same determination will be made when i bring it to a jeep dealership later this week for repair. the most recent (nov. 29, 2010) failure on the driver's side back window was the second time this occurred on this particularly window. previous repairs involved window and regulator replacement. this is a massive problem with jeep liberty suvs and a real serious safety concern in my opinion.

My 2006 jeep liberty started experiencing power window problems around nov 06. all 4 power windows would not roll down or they would roll down part of the way then get stuck and wouldn't roll back up. it was a safety concern when they were stuck open. it was also an issue in drive-through situations and other typical scenarios where you would roll down a window. a local chyrsler service dept repaired it repeatedly from 2006 until they closed in early 2009, then another chrysler service department made the last repair in july 2009. repairs ranged from re-wiring the windows to completely replacing the internal electronic system.

On my jeep liberty the rear window on the passenger's side will not roll up. i drove to fill up my gas tank on tuesday evening, and when i was reentering my vehicle after filling up, i noticed that this window was down. i am not absolutely positive, but i highly doubt i would have been able to drive to the gas station without noticing the wind noise with that window down. anyways, i used the button to try and roll it up and it didn't move. after a couple of tries with the button, an odd grinding sound started coming from the door. i got out and went around to see what was happening. i opened the door and used the rear buttons to roll it up, and the noise continued as well as some kind of pipe/wire came out of the door. when i tried to gently wiggle the window to see if it was bent or something, the part that was still up slid into the door (so the whole window is down now and won't roll up). i live in a dorm at a huge school, so having my whole car exposed by this open window makes me extremely nervous. i have taped a trash bag over it for now in case it rains, but it's awfully loud when i'm driving, and i doubt it will last much longer. i haven't taken it to a dealer yet because i wanted to look on the internet to see if this was happening to anyone else. i've seen so many complaints and similar stories that i am quite upset about the circumstances.

2006 jeep liberty- window regulator problem. windows crash down into door while driving, startling the driver! this is the third window in the vehicle that has had to be replaced. this is apparently a huge defect (just read the many reviews online) that chrysler won't admit to.

Several things 2 list: vehicle = 2.8l diesel jeep liberty, 2006. the codes are p0093 & u0121. 1st) it says a large leak in the fuel system. something in the emission system. has happened several x's. i've had it towed 4 this. engine runs rough & quits @ x's. no power. changed fuel filter & did air leak test in the fuel return system / tech at dodge jeep dealer. no air in return line found. problem still exist on an intermitant & sporadic x frame since june 2010. last x occurred = 8-20-10ish. 2) low boost from hole in the waste gate actuator vacum tube from improper routing at factory. found by tech at jeep dealer. 2 visits many hours & $$$. egr valve replaced @ same time. big $'s. 3rd) belt squeak from bearing going out in a/c compressor /dealer tech??? 3rd visit. need a/c compressor he says. previously changed tensioner pulley for this problem but did not fix problem. they now say its the a/c compressor??? 4th) right rear electric window motor failed 10-2-10. replaced motor/regulator assembly 10-7-10= $172.99. i should be reimbursed for all parts & labor for these damages. i paid a lot of $ for a supposedly good vehicle but it keeps failing. 5th) part time 4x4 light on dash says its in part time 4x4 when in two wheel drive. haven't repaired cause of $. please note that because of low power i was almost in several accidents because of the low turbo boost at acceleration. there could be injuries or fatalities in the future if this happens to someone else that's not mechanically inclined and not aware of reduced engine performance of a turbo failing slowly like mine because of a small hole in the waste gate actuator tubing from vibration on the housing bracket by the tube. was replaced and rerouted by dealer tech.

Jeep liberty automobile, 2006 model year, multiple incidents of door window dropping suddenly into the door frame. drivers door has happened twice, front passenger door once, driver's side rear passenger door has happened three times and passenger side rear door once. on two occasions this has happened while driving at high speeds and the resulting chaos has nearly caused an accident. jeep dealership says this is a common problem for jeep liberty from 2002 to 2006. they have no solution to offer other than replacing the window solenoid with same type that keeps failing.

I am writing to give a complaint about the 2006 jeep liberty. on numerous occasions throughout purchasing the vehicle, we have had to have the power window regulator and glass replaced. the glass falls into the door and will not roll up. the first time, and even second, i was able to take it in stride and accept it, paying the large sum to get it fixed. however, as this continues to happen on at least 4 other occasions - two of which happened withing five days of each other in mid september 2010 - i am quite discouraged. i now have one window still down - passenger front - and it is currently taped up. however, in florida weather, it frequently melts and falls down. this leaves my car window down and exposed in public while i am at work - which could lead to many dangers. i am sick of taking my car in every few months because jeep cannot simply fix this problem. i paid a price for my car, and could easily have bought another car by now with the money i have spent on fixing the windows in this car - around 350 to 500 a pop for each time. this is ridiculous and jeep should be held accountable for the default.

I purchased a 2006 jeep liberty in tampa, fl september of 2006. this vehicle was purchased brand new, with approx 24 miles on it at the time of purchase. since my purchase the rear window regulators fail 5 times as of the current date. 4 times the dealership in fl fixed without any cost to me. when this happened 9/15/2010 for the 5th time (3rd time on the same window) i called the local jeep dealership and spoke to the service manager :explained the issue & wanted to know when i could bring it to the dealership to be repaired. he went on to tell me this:
09/11/2010
I was driving home in my 2006 jeep liberty, when the back passenger side power window fell again! this is the secont time this week that one of the power windows fall. i have had this window and two other windows serviced for this very problem before and it and chrysler continues to be unable to fix it! when it fell, it was raining, and i had to hurry to get home because it was raining inside of the jeep. i should not have to keep a garbage bag in my vehicle just in case my window falls. this seems to happen to at least two windows every three or four months for us. when we bring it to the service department, it seems to work fine for a while untill sooner or later it falls again. they tell us that a plastic clip holds the window up, and the window falls when the clip gives out. it seems like this plastic clip must be pretty weak to go out as often as this! we don't even put the window up or down at all. the service department says that the part can go out wether the window is in use or not because of the tension it holds. when asked about any recalls on this part, their response was that recalls are only issued when a safety violation can occour. it is a safety violation to me! when the windows fall, and my children are in the car and it is storming outside that certainly affects my driving because i am concerned for the safety of my kids! i wonder what damage would be caused if the window falls and shatters inside the door? how would chrysler respond to that? chrysler seems to take this as no big deal, but i believe that someone can get seriously injured because of this defect. can we please get something done about this before something does happen to someone?

Failure of power window components causing window to crash into inner door... almost caused an accident by frightening me to the point of panic. after some investigation, i have found out that this is an ongoing problem with the jeep liberty that chrysler has refused to deal with... it will eventually be dealt with after someone is killed or maimed. why don't you do your job and deal with this problem before someone gets killed or maimed.

I left work today and walked out to my car to find my back driver side window down. when i tried to put it up, it wouldn't go. this is the third time i have had this problem on the same vehicle and this will be the second time, almost a year to the day, that this window has had this problem. the regulator will need to be replaced, again, and the cost will again be over $300.00. even after the regulator is replaced my vehicle will not be safe. the complete randomness of this occurrence and the fact that this is the second time on the same window within a year, leaves me to believe that it will happen again. i can no longer leave anything of value in my car. i have to be careful when traveling with my dogs. i won't be able to take children in my car without another adult present. the window falls completely into the door leaving the space totally open and unsafe. after researching this i have found that there are thousands of people having this same problem, it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Rear drivers side window slid into the door with no warning. took it to the dealership and was told it was the window regulator and it would cost $500 to fix it.

Jeep liberty window regulator failing multiple times. safety compromised due to potential invasion, climate issues, etc. i've had several windows replaced and they continue to break, now of course the warranty is expired. this is a serious defect that jeep apparently is unwilling to recall to date.

Rear window regulator failed again only this time with the seven month old secured in her car seat in the rear seat this time. this is not the first time one of these windows has failed when the switch is activated. they have failed twice before in this vehicle over the period we've owned it. this vehicle was purchased new from the dealer and has been an ongoing problem with the windows.

All four electric window motors have failed at least once, some more than once. this appears to be a known issue for jeep liberty's and warrants an investigation and recall notice as repair of this known defect can be as costly as $350-500.

This has caused great inconvenience, not to mention concern. i'm a single mom of a toddler and the rear driver's side window regulator of my 2006 jeep liberty broke. i don't open this window often, since my passenger is in the back alone. i now have to collect $500+ to repair this problem that can become very serious, very quickly. in addition, my car is now accessible to vandals. is chrysler waiting for a very serious accident to occur before approving this recall? being proactive can save a life or a body part for that matter!

I purchased my 2006 jeep liberty in 2007 within the firest year of purchase the rear right window motor went out and was covered under warrenty and replaced. while still under the warrenty the same window motor when out again and was again replaced. now i no longer have a warrenty both rear window motors have gone out. to replace both windows will cost me around $830 dollars. this is a serious problem with these window motors and needs to be addressed. if these motors keep going out like this there should be a recall and we as consumers should not have to foot this bill, this is aknow problem with this vehicle.

This is the 2nd time that a window in my 2006 jeep liberty has dropped while i was driving adn i've only owned it for 1 year. last time it was by babies rear window that dropped on the highway. this time it is was passenger window that dropped on our way to the park. i didn't even use it because the ac was on. it just dropped loudly, everyone screamed, i swerved and we almost hit a sign! luckily i gained control and nothing happened. now i have to pay $500 to get it fixed and be out of a vehicle for almost 2 days. i've had enough and i want chrysler to fix this problem!

On my way home from work... with my 1 year old in the back seat.. the rear passenger window fell down and would not go up. my husband took it apart and we discovered that the window regulator had failed.. luckily it was not raining.. and the window did not break.. i did some research trying to locate a part and you have to replace the whole component which costs an average of $145 instead of the plastic clip that probably costs about $1.00. it was also brought to my attention that this is a very common problem in liberty's and i was appalled that even new vehicles were having these problems! in my 10 minute search 20 people reported about having to replace this part several times in more than one window! chrysler should really change something so this product doesn't fail so often in so many vehicles! some day someone will be injured because of this part malfunctioning. luckily it was not my son!
