This is to report a faulty part on the window regulator. three times mine has failed. twice the left rear window has fallen into the door due to a regulator which was faulty and on the third occasion is was the right rear window that fell. lucky for me, i was stopped when my windows dropped. when the part fails, the glass just falls down into the door. the cost to repair is $750. at the dealer because you must replace the whole regulator, you cannot replace just the fifty cent part. the alternative which most people do is to tape the window glass up which obscures the vision and is a safety hazard. this is a chronic problem that jeep has known about for years. imagine a mother driving with a child in the rear car seat in a heavy rainstorm and passes a tractor trailer at normal speeds. the window fails and falls. you then have heavy rain and debris coming into the rear window. the mother panics as she is concerned about what is happening to her child and veers into the tractor trailer. these vehicles need to be recalled immediately. the faulty plastic slides need to be redesigned and replaced with a metal slide with neoprene guides. i am not the only one with this problem - a simple internet search will yield hundreds of other individuals who have encountered this problem. i have saved the parts from my door if you wish to inspect them.

The car was sitting in the parking lot when we tried to put the rear driver side window down it slid down an inch but did not keep going. when we tried to put the window back up, it did not move but the motor kept spinning. it's a safety issue because i usually have my child riding in the backseat and stuff can fly into the car and cause injuries. i took the car to the dealership and they replaced it for around $400. they acknowledged the problem as being common but that the vehicle was not part of a recall or extended warranty that was given to older models. i called the national chrysler hotline and they told me that they can not escalate my issue unless it occured more often.

Yet again, a complaint against the faulty window regulator in the jeep liberty. i've had 2 window regulators fail in the last 3 weeks. there needs to be a recall on this and jeep needs to be held accountable for the faulty part.

Three of the four windows have had the regulators break - the first one repaired under warranty, the second the dealership charged me (even though i had a warranty in effect) and the third window is currently being held in place by gorilla tape (the view out the passenger front window is fortunately not obscured). this window started falling in when we hit a bump driving down i-95 at highway speeds. given the huge number of issues with this model year with the window regulators, it seems inevitable that the window of the final window will give way at some unknown point in the future. why jeep has not addressed this is inexcusable.

 1. power windows - three out of four of the power windows on my 2006 jeep liberty sport have fallen within the last month. it is not wear and tear because i hardly use the back windows, it is a defect. i have an infant daughter and this is a hazard for her since she has to ride in the back. 2. electrical sensors - while coming to a slow stop or turning my vehicle has suddenly shut off for no apparent reason. *****both of these issues are common with this make & model. why is there no recall? is chryser waiting on someone to die before they make a move? i can't afford the ridiculous price to have these defects fixed. i have to feed my family...so i must tape my windows up and hope they don't get broken in to.

While driving down the street, the right rear window fell off it's track. this is the third time this has happened, the other times involved the front passenger's window in april of '07, and the left rear window in july of '08.. the first two were covered by warranty. our '06 jeep is one year past the 36 month warranty and has about 22,000 miles. i have talked with two dealers and the chrysler complaint line and the information so far is that chrysler, even though the problem is pervasive enough that they issued service bulletin # 23-008-09 to the dealers acknlowledging the chronic problem, will not accept responsibility and makes the owner foot the bill. i have since been online and there are literally thousands of similar instances being reported. someone is going to get killed. chrysler needs to suck it up and issue a recall. period.

Window regulator failed on driver side rear window in 2007. regulator was replaced and covered by factory warranty. window regulator failed on passenger rear window in 2010, not covered by factory warranty. by 2010, the window regulator had an updated design that required a new window to be purchased in addition to the regulator, as the old window would not fit properly with the new regulator.

On my 06 jeep liberty my 2 back rear windows have failed. the one i caught before it went down into the door, jammed some cardboard on the sides to keep it up. however, here in sw florida during the summer we have a rainy season for 6 months. needless to say driving down the road one of these bands of rain starts pouring and now here goes the other rear window down inside the door this time. will not come up! if this is not a safety recall i don't know what is. let's just say trying to keep the car on the road, in the correct lane all while trying to find someplace to pull off the road until the rain stops. of course, now the seats are soaking wet, and we liberty owners know what comes next...........because the seats get wet all this nasty white stain is on them and must be brought in to get cleaned. douglas jeep (venice, fl) did take care of both windows within 4 days, i do feel it is jeep's responsibility and i should not have been charged period ($192) douglas jeep has always been very concerned with this problem and i appreciate them getting me in as soon as they did. i might add that these two windows failed within 2 weeks of each other.

2006 jeep liberty limited the passenger window regulators are constantly breaking and thus the window falls all the way down into the door(s). i have to drive with the broken window open or use tape or plastic bag to keep rain out when the weather is bad until i can get to the dealership. in the past 3 years since i have owned the car, i have had to bring in my car on 6 separate occasions for the same exact problem. all the previous replacements were done under warranty. each door window, except for the driver's window has broken twice and today makes it three time for the rear left side passenger window. i feel the safety of my car in is jeopardy when the window is fully down and do not feel safe not being able to put it up when driving, especially at night. this model's windows and regulators have caused many people the same problem and this is a manufacturing defect according to this sites 175 complaints registered so far for this problem. jeep should be required to replace these regulators for everyone for free for the life of the car unless they can manufacture a part that will not break within 8 months of installation. the dealer i go to states that the car is now out of warranty and that i must pay a $150 co-pay to have it fixed as a goodwill cost covering of jeep-chrysler but this is unacceptable to pay for their shoddy design and parts that keep breaking.

Vehicle: 2006 jeep liberty renegade issue: all 4 doors have needed the window regulators replaced, one them has been replaced twice. another one broke towards the end of the warranty period but the dealer would not replace it under warranty because of the mileage on the vehicle when i arrived at the dealership. the vehicle was purchased new in december of 2006, so it has been through 3 years of continuous use and has received 5 new window regulators. it needs a 6th new regulator but the dealership wants to replace the window and the regulator, without any back-up data that suggests this will end the problem. during the last incident, i heard a loud popping sound coming from the back of the vehicle, while driving about 40 mph, but did not notice any immediate issues. the doors were briefly inspected for any damage and looked fine. after coming out of the movie theatre, about 2 hours later, the window had fallen completely into the door. to date the part has not been replaced due to a lack of confidence in the currently available resolution and due to the exorbitant cost. after inspecting the assembly, it appears that the plastic component, which moves along the railing, is not able to successfully capture and maintain a connection with the cable that enables the window the go up and down. once the two pieces separate there is no way to reconnect them. *tr

Beginning on february 22, the first of three (3) window regulators failed in this vehicle. the first was the driver side rear passenger window, second was the driver's door window (6 days later) and the third was the right rear passenger window which failed yesterday (3/4/10). the rear windows have seldom been open since purchasing the vehicle new in 2006. two of the windows slid/dropped open completely while the vehicle was underway while the third dropped open upon closing the right rear door. *tr

We have had this 2006 jeep liberty for just over a year now and has been ok until now. the rear passenger window regulator took a $%!@. took apart myself and found a broken plastic piece that connects to the drive cable. thought i could find this small plastic part at the dealer and they said i had to by the whole regulator assembly for $244. even better, while i was in line there was a lady in line for the same reason. that's when i found all kinds of complaints about this same reason on-line. this jeep only has 42,000 miles and should not be having these problems this premature. if chrysler can't replace this part free of charge then this will be the last vehicle we buy from them. chrysler, fix your problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

2006 jeep liberty power windows fall into the door. requires new regulator and window glass installed. all four windows in my vehicle have failed in the past 14 months since purchasing the vehicle. dealer replaced 3 under warranty, but the 4th happened 132 miles outside of warranty. dealer says chrysler will not fix under warranty. this is a very well known problem that has affected practically all 2006 jeep libertys according to the service manager at my dealership. *tr

Driver's side door windows (front and back seat) fall down and fail to stay up without tape. they have been taped up for over a year b/c we refuse to pay to have them fixed. have researched online and found countless complaints about this. dealership claims we would have to pay to get it fixed although it is obviously a defect. the main component of the regulator is plastic and runs on a metal track, causing the plastic to wear down and no longer be able to grip on the rail and support the window. newer model jeeps do not have this part, so obviously they were aware of the problem and upgraded the part to eliminate this problem. *tr

Rear drivers side window broke, fell into door aug 2008 and was repaired by the dealer, one year to date same problem, dealer now tells me i must pay $75 to have it repaired, regardless of the fact that it was a recall issue! i feel the dealer is wrong in charging this but i am stuck. *tr

The driver's rear window regulator broke and now the window will not go up and down and slides down by itself. chrysler only sells the motor and regulator and everything as one package, so even though i can hear the motor working and it is most likely a broken piece of plastic, because that is what jeeps use for regulators, that is causing the problem im going to have to pay 300 dollars to buy everything. if chrysler would use a metal bracket as a regulator instead of a cheap piece of plastic there would not be so many problems with jeep liberty's window regulators breaking. and since they don't sell regulators by themselves it is almost like chrysler is doing it just to make more money and that they don't care about their customers at all. it is a little bit ridiculous that they have not recalled these shotty quality regulators or even addressed the problem at all. *tr

Power window failure. front left two different times. rear left two different times. same problem each time. window stops going up or down with power switch and then window falls into the door. safety issue is that this happened while driving on the interstate. first instance 1/3/07 10,182 miles: 2nd instance 4/20/07 16,789 miles; 3rd instance 11/08 61,777 miles; 4th instance 1/09 64,000 miles. first two times were repaired under warranty. last two times are my responsibility.  I purchased my 2006 jeep liberty in january 2007. a few months later 3 of the automatic windows would not work. dealer replaced the actuator for free. since then 2 my windows have been stuck going up like they are off track. driver side front and back window need to have actuator replaced again. back driver side window fell completely down and won't roll up. passenger front window has needed new actuator because it sometimes won't roll up. i will be finally taking it back to the dealer and hopefully getting the actuators replaced for free since they have been defective the entire time i have owned the car. there are lots of little pieces here and there that fall off the car and little things that don't work. it is really a very cheaply made car. *tr

I have had to have the window regulators replaced on all 4 windows, with the left rear replaced twice. the first instance was at 28,000 miles, and the second episode occurred at 33,000 miles. a final incidence occurred at 42,000 miles. i was told that jeep is aware of the problem and that it happens in hot areas (like the desert). i was told to leave my windows cracked open so as to prevent the build-up of heat. these events happen as i drive, and in one case, it happened that the window came down while my wife was at work, and she found it after a full day. this created a big security issue as the car could have been vandalized or stolen. *tr

On wednesday, september 5, 2007, at approximately 8:30pm both my husband and i got in our 2006 jeep liberty with only 9,188 miles to drive home. upon turning on the vehicle we turned up the air conditioner and heard a grinding sound. unsure of what the noise was, my husband turned down the air for a moment. as he turned the air back up the blower fan fell out of the dashboard and into the foot area of the passenger front seat where i was sitting. the blower fan was still turning as it made contact with my feet because it did not detach from the electrical wiring. the blower fan continued running until my husband shut off the vehicle. due to the fact that i was wearing sandals when the blower fan fell out of the dashboard my toes were severely lacerated and suffered abrasions. these injuries required me to seek medical attention. due to this injury i have had to miss work, as it is not possible for me to wear shoes, stand for any length of time, or sit without elevating my feet. this incident along with other multiple faulty window components, all of which are warranty items, cause us concern. particularly since the blower fan was a recalled part and had recently been replaced. we no longer feel that this vehicle is safe to operate and have contacted chrysler headquarters customer service call center for assistance and are awaiting an inspection. *tr

This is the 2nd time i have accessed your website with a complaint for the same problem.. i reported my other complaint on 09/20/2010. my rear windows just fall down for no reason. on 8/15/12 i walked out and noticed my rear driver side car window was down. when i tried to put it up, it just made a grinding noise. it just slips down into the window space leaving me with an open window while driving down the interstate in the rain. the same thing happened two years ago to both rear windows to the same vehicle. i was told by the dealership there was a defect in the 2006 jeep liberty's where this happens. it appears the windows and part that raises and lowers the window is one unit which is made of plastic. apparently it is very cheap and fragile and breaks for no reason. you have to buy the whole window/mechanical assembly and it is very expensive. please help me get my window fixed. *tr

The window regulators in my 2006 jeep liberty have broken and fallen down 10 different times in the past 4 years that i have owned the vehicle. the first 9 times were bothersome and about 450.00 each to get fixed but this last one is a safety hazard. i have a 10 week old baby and the window decided to fall down in the middle of a storm and i had to pull over on the interstate to pull the window back up to stop the flood of rain that was falling on my (at the time) 8 week old baby. my baby was screaming his head off as i am sure that much rain coming in the wide opened window at 50-60 (was driving slower due to low visibility in storm) miles an hour did not feel good. i had to find the right time to pull off the road then climb in back, undo car seat, slide it over and duct tape the window. i was alone and then had to reattach the car seat to the base and dry off my infant. i am thankful that no one hit us while i was parked on the interstate in a rainstorm with my child not buckled in to the car. i was in a panic trying to fix this. now jeep is refusing to fix this free of charge due to lack of recall. please make them recall this defective part so this does not happen again. i live in mobile, al and it is scorching hot and i can't be driving him around with the window down. also, it doesn't stay up for more than a day with the duct tape because of the heat melting the glue on the tape. it's just dangerous. *tr

The windows on my jeep liberty fall from the track for no reason. they fall when i don't even use them. they have been fixed at least 5 times since i have owned the jeep. the new part that they install is apparently defective because they only last for a year and then they break again. this should be listed as a recall since i have seen thousands of owners of this jeep complain about the same problem, some having fixed the windows 12 or more times. this is a safety issue as well because the windows suddenly falling down for no reason can cause loss of control and also a safety issue that someone can reach in your car and harm you or create a carjacking issue. this problem needs to be addressed immediately. *tr

Bought a used 2006 jeep liberty with 13k miles. two times the rear passenger windows have failed and fallen into the door while driving along the freeway. chrysler dealer and internet research shows that this issue recurs several times on this model. parts were replaced by dealer but this issue apparently could reoccur. the issue is a defective design in the window regulator that regularly fails.

*tr

2006 jeep liberty. i have had the window regulator go out in my car currently 5 different times. i am also certain that my driver window is about to go out again as i have to help lead it when i push the up bottom. i try to use it as little as possible. when the regulators when out the first three times my car was still under warranty so i took it in for repair. now that they have broken two more times, within two weeks, i feel that this is a real issue. what concerns me is the safety of my children who are in the back seat when these break and the glass falls into the door, what if it was to break, what if it was storming outside. it concerns me that one of them could be injured. i am also concerned that when i went online to do some research there are many post regarding this same issue, also a petition put forward with 114 signatures asking for a recall on my vehicle, yet chrysler jeep has yet to do one. i think we need help to get this item recalled, have a better product installed in our cars, and provide a safe form of transportation for our families. thank you for your time. *tr

While i was away from my jeep, the right rear window rolled down and broke -- again. that was the 6th time this occurred in this vehicle to these windows. not more than 10 minute later, the left rear window broke, exactly as they all have done. so, this is the 7th time each of 4 window mechanisms in this jeep have failed. *tr

My latest jeep, a 2006 liberty (with fewer than 16000 miles), has gone to the shop 5 times for 5 broken windows (cables/regulators). they just rolled down one day and refused to roll back up again. the first window broke about one month after i purchased the suv. another of the windows has broken twice, within 6 months of the first repair. then i had to take it in recently with two windows broken at the same time. it's ridiculous! *jb updated 10/10/07. *jb

The rear driver side window suddenly, and unexpectedly, fell open from the fully closed position with a loud crashing sound. one open it was unable to be re-closed. failure in this manner was very startling and can be seen seen as an unnecessary distraction which, in my opinion, constitutes a safety hazard. upon investigation i found that the part of the mechanism that directly supports the window is made of plastic and further is of insufficient dimension to support the weight of the glass through repeated cycles. the dealer offered me the same inadequate part as replacement which is destined for the same failure.
