AQ10001CHRYSLER GROUP LLC11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

The driver window fell into the door when the cable broke that makes the window go up and down. it is very cold when the window is open all the time, and if a person blocks the opening to keep warm and not let the rain in, they cannot see properly. (saftey issue) i have owned the car about 3 years. i bought it used, so i don't know if there were problems before. but this has been a problem for me ever since i bought the car. i have been told that the window regulater goes bad and that is why the window doesn't work properly and broke the cable. i noticed that there are many complaints about this issue. many people have spent alot of money to keep the windows working properly. i spent over $700 just to keep my driver door window proper and this is for many fixes. i did not buy the car at a jeep dealership, so when i go in there, they are not real interested in helping me. please make this issue a recall and help people to get their windows to work properly. please!!!

While using the passenger side back power window operator to close the window there was a click and the window began to slowly sink back into the door. the car was parked at the time of the incident. this is my second window regulator to go bad. the driver's side back window regulator has also gone bad. it was scheduled for repair.

I own a 2007 jeep liberty sport, with no warranty. a few months ago, the rear, driver side window regulator and motor went bad and i had to replace this out of pocket. what is more frustrating is that this has happened to my driver front widow now. since my last repair, larry h. miller jeep in sandy utah has inflated the price of the part. they are very aware of the need of this faulty part and are taking advantage of customers. i now have no window (it is cracked inside my door and i am not in financial position to replace it). it is approximately 30 degrees in my state right now, this is almost unbearable. i have also owned a 2006 jeep liberty prior to this and the rear driver window regulator and motor also went out. i also had to replace this at my cost. this makes three times for the same part! i am asking for a recall and for the dealership to replace this at no additional cost to me. i feel it is already unfair that they provide a bad part, but even worse that they inflated the price part recently and are taking advantage of consumers. this is also unsafe, i have to drive with a garbage bag to my window which blocks my line of sight, but is the only way to keep dry in this fall/winter weather. please help me, i am at a loss right now and this is my only means of transportation. the dealership's number for where i purchased the vehicle is: (866) 653 3505. thank you again. thank you

I purchased a 2007 jeep liberty limited edition 4x4 on may 26, 2012 from local dealership. on september 16, 2012, i was shocked to find rear passenger window had slid half way down through the night. discovered from internet research that plastic parts are faulty and known by chrysler for years. yet no recall made to correct this serious problem. replacing with same plastic parts is no solution. my concern is safety and security. why have an alarm system when any or all four windows are prone to failure? steel replacement parts can be purchased online independently, but as a consumer i feel chrysler should be obligated to correct this at no cost. this requires immediate attention. why wait for the possibility of a child falling out of a moving vehicle. there is no warning.

Since i bought the jeep liberty 2007 has a problem with the air conditioning system. all the outside smoke enters in the vehicle. we took it to the chrysler service several times but they said it was fine, but doesn't work properly. this inconvenience has affected us in our health cause every afternoon my wife who drives the jeep come home with head pain and our daughter has asthma and this problem get her worse. last week we call to the chrysler service and explained again what was happening, the man said that they notice that this model has a manufacturing defect just at the side of the air conditioning system and there were more people reporting the same problem.

I was driving to work on the 101 (a major l.a. freeway) and all of the sudden felt my car collapse onto the passenger tire. i struggled to remain in my line, and had tremendous difficulty steering and wasn't able to brake as easily. i flew across three lanes of rush hour traffic and almost hit a wall. when i exited my vehicle i found that my lower ball joint had broken, causing my tire to explode.

Purchased 07 jeep liberty 4/10 on 6/10 the drivers side window fell into the door due to a broken window lift or regulator. on 3/12 the pass side window fell half way down due to the same problem. its clearly defective parts as so many vehicles have had the same the same problem for several years yet chrysler jeep still will not issue a recall.

The driver side window dropped into the door. repairman states that the regulator on the window has went bad. cost over $300.00 to fix. two months later, the back driver side fell into the door, and again the repairman states the same problem. now the total cost to have both fix over $600. i had the passager side fixed, and had the back driver side blocked up. do you think that after some many complaints that they would investiage these regulators and maybe have a recall on them. it's now nov. 2011, and my driver side window is acting the same way...think it might be the next one.

2007 jeep liberty window regulator i have had to replace them at least 6 times and the last time i had the problem the window fell in to the door and almost knocking my child in the face with broken glass i have heard more than just mine doing this. i believe that this is not safe when you have children or my self because it did this while i was driving i have had to replace it so many times that i can not afford to replace this anymore and i can not trade in because i cant afford a new higher car payment b/c the value of the cars has droped because of the window regulator

2007 jeep liberty sport. throughout the three years i've owned this vehicle i have had repeated problems with the power windows, including windows that stop working or just fall into the door without even using the power window switch. i have an extended lifetime warranty and have had to pay $100 deductible everytime i've taken it in for these repairs. the claim to have replaced the front windows as they now have a different connector for the power window unit. the drivers window goes down normally, but is very slow to come up and sometimes stops. i have to manually 'help' it up. the front passenger window has worked fine since the same repair. the rear windows have both been repaired however the driverside passenger window has now started to fall on its own. it has not been used since it was last repaired except the day of the repair when i checked to make sure it was good to go. i've learned that the parts that need to be replaced are plastic and break down regularly and need to be replaced with metal ones. these plastic parts are easily broken and thus make it easy to break into the vehicle through the use of a steel hook and pressure. jeep needs to seriously address this. of all the vehicles i have owned this is the only one that has had a window issue and it keeps happening! this has cost me hundreds of dollars and there is no relief in sight. help!!!

All four of my windows have failed in my 2007 jeep liberty. the driver's door failed 3/8/10 and was repaired on 3/10/10 for $439.69. since then the other 3 have now failed, right side rear passenger july 18, 2010; left side rear passenger september 21, 2010 and now the front passenger window today, october 13, 2010. i am the only person in the vehicle 95% of the time. rarely do i have passengers getting in and out of my car, so the amount of time these doors are opened and closed on a regular basis is very low. i bought this car brand new in february of 2007 and these should not be failing.

2007 jeep liberty. 4th time window regulators failed in past three years. all windows once and same windows twice.. on 10/08/10 while traveling south on i 95. windows were in full upright position, when out out no where, the front passenger window dropped . two minutes later the rear drivers side dropped out. i had to drive 100 miles home like that. . very scary . dealer people know about the problem but said no recall yet.. i guess someone has to die and sue them before they will recall. soooo many people have same complaint. please help us before someone gets really hurt.. thank you. i do not know the part # but had to put something in to complete this survey or it wouldn't let me continue. i believe jeep uses mopar parts, unknown part# for regulator part.. please help...

Replaced the windows on my 2007 jeep liberty 6 times. they break without even being used. i went out to my car one morning and one was completely down and would not roll up. the windows have been replaced/repaired each time. never a warning - just a pop and the window comes down.
09/18/2010
I had my front driver's side window replaced and my back driver's side window on my 2007 jeep liberty. now my back driver's side window is falling down again and since it's been over a year since it was replaced, i am responsible for paying the $100 deductible to have it fixed again, if the extended warranty will even cover it.
10/03/201055000
My 2007 jeep liberty has yet again had another window break due to their faulty brackets installed by jeep. this is the second window of mine to go out in less than a year. at first the window was having trouble go up by itself and then yesterday it made a popping noise and the glass fell down completely and will not come back up. this should be recalled there is no doubt about it.

Rear window of jeep 2007 liberty comes down on its own (every time we drive the car and even when it is in park). the problem was repaired at a jeep dealer once while under 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. however, the problem has occured again (same window) only 1.5 years after the fix, yet the dealer says it's no longer underwarranty. clearly this is a defect with the car and the original fix should have been more permanent than 1.5 years. it happened during a heavy downpour/rain storm and resulted damage to items in the back seat. we have an 11 month old in a car seat in the back and can no longer ride in inclement weather with the baby in the backseat until we get it fixed again. my fear is this will simply continue to happen since we already tried to have this fixed by a 5 star chyrsler/jeep dealer.

In 4/2010 i bought 2007 jeep liberty (less than six months ago) - within two weeksafter purchase rear driver side window just fell down into the door while in motion - was prob doing 65 the first time - i brought to dealership and they fixed it free - the second time (approx 3 months later) on fourth of july weekend, i am visiting my son six hours away and i'm driving and arrive at my son's house and the rear passenger side just falls - i had to drive six hours back home with storms and a window that wouldnt stay up -- i have tried stuffing cardboard in the window but it falls out now because i is all stretched out - i have to stop and get out on the interstate to try and pry stuff in to keep the window up - any storms and i am in big trouble - i currently have been waiting one week just for the dealer to fix it - they have to order a complete assembly unit each time and this time they will charge me $100 deductible - as explained to me the unit that holds the window in is very fragile and made of unsturdy, cheap plastic...due to their service hours i have to take time off from work and i have children that ride with me and i am concerned about this window falling while i have them in the vehicle and its very dangerous during bad weather and expensive to fix each time as well. 1st incident happened around 4/15/10 and second incident occured on 7/4/10 weekend

I have a 2007 jeep liberty and i was driving along in the rain with my 3 year old daughter and my 6 week old son in the back. the rear driver side window came crashing down out of nowhere soaking my son and daughter with the rain that was falling. i went on line and it turns out this is an ongoing problem since 2002 but jeep has done nothing to fix it but charge 100 dollars even though its under warranty. i am not the only one this has happened to and its sad that jeep doesn't care about it. i now have 2 sick children and i am going back to afghanistan in 4 days. please help!

Window regulators are no good we have 70,000 miles on our 2007 jeep liberty.we already had one replaced and now the back windows fail down and no way to get them up.we went today and got them fixed new regulators and new windows at a cost of $527.00.you cant get the old regulators because they have had so many problems with them .you have to buy the new ones and the new windows to fit them.there has been lots of complaints and i think it should be a recall on them.they are a piece of junk.we hardly ever used our back windows cause if you let them down going down the road the vibration is not bearable.we will never purchase another jeep ever.we also was sitting in the car one day and the back passenger window exploded,we called the police cause we thought we had been shot at but we found out it was pressure from the window regulator lucky our insurance paid for that cause the dealer would not

Electric windows don't work. one day it worked they next day it didn't. there was no event to cause this. i have 2 windows that do not work, passenger side front window and driver side rear window. after checking on line i discovered that this was a problem that is occurring with a lot of people and that chrysler jeep is aware of the problems.

2007 jeep liberty two-wheeled drive. left rear electric window had to be replaced when window regulator failed on may 20, 2010, with only 29,794 miles on the car. window went down into left rear door, behind driver, and became totally inoperable. dealer-shaver automotive group in thousand oaks, ca, changed regulator and glass and charged us an exhorbitant $482.60. did not even honor discount coupon for $50 off of service. point is, that this seems to be a known defect based on the amount of complaints, and chrysler should pay for it. in addition the replacement regulators should be different or be redesigned to be more robust, because it makes no sense to replace with the same regulators that might eventually fail again, as seems to be the case with other complaintants who have experienced multiple failures with the same or different windows.

For the 3rd time, the window of my 2007 jeep liberty has stopped working and is dropping into the door! in fact, at this moment, both of the back windows dropping into the door and the motor will not work. the first time it happened to my driver side front window, the car was under warranty. now it is not and i am mad!!!!! when i called dealer to find out how much the motor would be they told me that design had changed and i would have to buy the windows too. this is crazy i have now learned on the internet and by talking to people that this is a common problem with jeep/chrysler with different years involved too. this is crazy what is it going to happen before they will issue recall some child get hurt by glass breaking or cause and accident. also, since window is messed up the lock system on driver side back door is also messing up. unknown if related. chrysler jeep needs to do a recall on this problem, fix all windows once and for all so we have peace of mind while we drive!

Windows will become stuck in the down position. i have have the front 2 windows fixed already, the driver side twice and the passenger side once. now, the rear passenger window has become stuck down. i hear the motor turning in the door, but it will not come back up. my child (3 years old) sits in that seat and so it is even more concerning to me.

The window regulators on all four windows keep failing and cause the cable to exit out of the locking mechenism. this in turn gives the door the apperance of being closed. the door can swing open and cause the passanger to fly out. the first time this happen my child was in the back seat with the proper restraints but just seeing the door open scared the you know what out of me. i took the vehiecle to the dealer and they told me i was still covered so they changed the regulator on all four windows and said all was fine. a year later the same window did the same thing so again i went to the dealer but this time the story was different. not only was my regulator bad but my window also had to be replaced. i was given a total of about $500.00 to repair the window again and i asked why i had to pay for somthing that was repaired one year before. they said this was not the first time this issue had happen and unfortionatlly their was no recall. i said it was not right to have to pay for something that was by all standards should be a complete and total recall.why do we wait for a accident or even worse death to happen before some thing is done. the job was done and i was surprised when i was only charged $100. i would have paid any price for my family's safety. please don.t wait for a tragety to happen before a recall is in effect. i now have another regulator and window to repair and two more to keep an eye on. thank you.
