FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

Every time i fill up with gas, the gas spews from the filler neck when the tank is full. this happens whether the nozzle shuts off automatically or if i shut it off manually to try to prevent it from spewing out. this happens no matter which gas station i fill up at, whether it's near home or out of town. i have driven many, many makes of automobiles since 1956 (that's 56 years) and this is the first vehicle that ever gave me this problem.

Every time i fill my fuel tank the gasoline overflows and spills all over the vehicle and ground. this will happen when i fill automatically or manually.

When my wife fills here 2008 jeep liberty the fuel pump doesn't shut off and full shots out of the filler. this came on suddenly had it looked at once (non-jeep dealer) and found nothing. this even happens when the pump is set to the lowest speed. this is dangerous and wasteful!

Every time i fill the liberty up with fuel is overflows and spills out. it does not matter if i pump the fuel fast or slow, it spills out every time. this is an extremely dangerous situation for me, my family and everyone around me when i put fuel in.

Fuel shoots out of inlet when filling gas tank. during one of the many incidents the fuel shot out about 18 inches from the filler inlet.

Safety concern: while filling up my 2008 jeep liberty the gas pump shuts off automatically, but a large amount of gas spills out of the filler tube all over the ground, vehicle, and on the person pumping the gas. this occurs every time i fill up. this seems to be a common problem and is very dangerous.

While filling up my 2008 jeep liberty the gas pump shuts off automatically as it should have but, a large amount of gas spills out of the gas tank fill tube all over the ground, vehicle, and on the person pumping the gas when holding the nozzle grip manually. this occurs every time i fill up and occurs even when manually holding the fuel pump nozzle. i filed a complaint through mycarstats.com but noticed that the reports on this issue have started to increases quite a bit since my report a few months ago. the complaints are spread throughout many complaint forums on the internet. this seems to be a huge problem across the board and is a very dangerous issue since it is dealing with a highly combustible substance. many have taken this up with various dealerships and have gotten nowhere. this is where the government needs to step in and get this issue on the recall list for jeep liberty'

After over 3 years of no problems when fueling our liberty, we began to have gas spew out at every fill-up. the pump does not shut off when the tank is full, and gas comes back out forcefully enough to hit the person pumping the gasoline.

We purchased a 2008 jeep liberty used from a toledo dealership in april of 2011. the fuel auto shut-off does not work at all, and every time we top off the tank fuel ends up burping all over the side of the vehicle, onto the ground, and in some cases onto the person fueling the vehicle. even the salesperson complained that she got fuel on her when we asked her to top it off before we drove it off the lot. this seems to be the exact same issue that we had with our 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited. however, there was a safety recall for that and a new fuel tank and neck had to be installed that fixed the problem. it seems to me that there should be a safety recall on the 2008 jeep liberty to fix what seems to be an identical problem that was recalled and remediated. every time i've contacted the original and local dealerships regarding the issue i've been told that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.

When filling gas tank with fuel, fuel spills out of the fller tube splashing on the side of the vehicle, the person pumping the fuel, and onto the ground. there is an obvious defect internal relating to the filler valve or fuel tank. this is extremely dangerous and should be evaluated as a safety recall.

Every time i fill up my jeep the pump will shut off when the tank is full and i remove the pump and gas will bubble out of the tank and runs down the side of the vehicle.
10/19/201133000
The last 3 times i have filled the gas tank on my vehicle, gas has overflowed onto the ground. after the 2nd time, the check engine light came on. i brought it to the dealership and was advised the code read that the filler neck was faulty and needed to be replaced. i advised them that i had an issue with gas overflowing onto the ground when filling up and was advised it may be fixed by the new filler neck since there is a sensor in there. i had the filler neck replaced. i filled the jeep again today, roughly a week after having the filler neck replaced, and again gas overflowed and leaked down the side of my jeep and onto the ground. up until this point, when filling my jeep, the gas pump would click off when the tank was full. i have gone to three different gas stations so it is not a problem with the pump at the station.

I bought my jeep in june with just over 36000 miles. it was previously a rental vehicle. everything was fine until about september when i filled gas and the pump clicked off and gas came out all over at about 42000 miles. i thought it was the gas pump, but then i went to other stations and it happened every time. i was going to bring it in to have it looked at but i see other people have the same problem. it is very irritating to have it happen every time! please have a recall!

Every time i go to fill my tank with gas there is a spill over. i have been to multiple different filling stations and get the same result every time. gasoline always runs down the side of the car as the tank reaches fuel capacity. gasoline spills out of the tank, down the side of the jeep, on to the ground, and even gets on my hands, clothes, and shoes. this is totally unacceptable! i have never had such an issue with something as simple as fueling a vehicle. i have owned this vehicle for less than 2 months. i purchased the vehicle used from carmax. i plan on contacting them regarding this problem. i have read other complaints online for the same year and model as my jeep. i feel that this is a major defect that warrants a total recall on all 2008 jeep liberty models. i don't like having to worry about ingesting gasoline when i eat because my hands were covered in gasoline. i don't like breathing the noxious fumes while i'm inside my car because fuel from a defective fuel tank has spilled on to my clothes and shoes.

I bought the car in 2009 as the second owner with 18,000 miles on it. about 6 months ago every time i fill up the gas tank it overflows and sprays gas all over the place. at first i thought it was the station but after using multiple stations i now have to estimate how much gas is left in the tank and then try and fill it up. this needs to be fixed as it is a major safety issue.

I own a 2008 jeep liberty. i am the second owner and purchased in late november 2010. the mileage at purchase was only 8,000 miles. when i filled the tank for the very first time, it overflowed, spilling gas down the side of the jeep, on my feet, clothes, hands, etc. every time i fill the tank, it over flows. i feel that this is highly unsafe as well as an inconvenience. i have to constantly shut off the pump early to avoid an overflow. i took it to the dealership and they informed me that i need a new gas tank at $730. i am now at 17,000 miles, well under the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty but due to the date, the warranty is expired. this is unsafe and ridiculous. a vehicle with 8,000 miles should not have gas spilling out of the tank at every fill. i understand that there is a current recall on wranglers for the same issue but nothing is being done about the liberty.

2008 jeep liberty. i have owned the vehicle for 3 years and 5 months. it has 43,000 miles. four months ago the issue began while filling the car with gas. the gas pump does not turn off when the tank is full causing an overflow of gasoline onto the car and ground. this happens every time we refuel. several people have refueled just to ensure it was not user error and the same thing happens. we have also used many different gas stations. i have contacted the dealer and their response is that an issue has not been found and a recall has not been issued.

While filling up my 2008 jeep liberty the gas pump shut off automaticly as it should have, but a large amount of gas spude out of the gas tank fill tube all over the ground and vehicle. this is the second time in a row that this has happened with this vehicle. it seems to be an issue witht he tank venting. vehicle has only 19,254 miles on it.

Every time the gas tank is being filled there is an eruption of fuel that comes out of the gas tank fill when the gas pump handle shuts off. even when manually holding the gas pump handle dispensing gas at a very slow rate, the gas tank fill still pours out gas when it reaches the full point and shuts off the pump.

At around the 74,000 mile marker, my gas tank began spewing out gasoline upon filling up at the gas station. the tank holds roughly 17.5 gallons, and the nozzle (up to this point) would always automatically shut off upon a full tank when at the pump. now, when the tank is nearing full, the fuel spills out of the gas tank, leaking gasoline all over the side of the vehicle, on my hands, shoes, clothes and ground. the only way to try and avoid this issue is to estimate a cut-off point in which to stop pumping fuel at around the 17.0 gallon mark, which is still very hard to do without the spillage occurring and often leaves me with a partial fillup to avoid getting soaked in gasoline. as of 4 days ago, my gascap and check engine indicator lights came on. i've fully refueled 3 times since then and tightened the gas cap and the lights have not disappeared. i often suffer headaches from the gasoline fumes that i carry back into the vehicle on my hands, clothes and feet from the gas spillage that occurs when i fill up. this problem seems to be very common amongst jeep owners based on the amount of forums i've found online.

When filling the fuel tank with gas, at the full point the tank shoot back about a quarter gallon of gas onto the ground and on the side of the car. this is without topping the tank off, as it happens at the point that the gas pump automatically shuts off. there is an extreme danger of this with gasoline being all over.

Every time i fuel my 2008 jeep liberty the fuel nozzle does not shut off properly when full, causing fuel to spew out onto the car, my hands, my clothing and the concrete beneath the car at the gas station. i complained to the dealer while the vehicle was under warranty on 3/9/2010 and they replaced the filler tube. the repair did not fix the problem. i have been living with this issue for a year now. today, while at the gas station, the person in the isle next to me, driving a 2008, 4-door jeep wrangler, had the same issue. i asked her about it and she said the problem had just begun for her in the past month, but it now happens to her every fuel up. i decided i would look into it further. after seeing the multiple online posts, i decided to make a complaint, as this is obvioiusly a defect with jeep vehicles.

When putting gasoline into the gas tank, the pump is never triggered to turn off. thus causing a substantial amount of fuel to gush out of the tank and all over the vehicle, the ground and sometimes the person pumping the fuel.

Every time i fill up my gas tank the nozzle does not trigger to release the shut off on the gas coming back out of the input which results in a lot of gas overflowing back onto my vehicle, the ground and my clothes. this happens even if i watch the amount of gallons being put into the tank and try and shut it off ahead of time. i have discussed this with other jeep liberty owners and have gone on line and have seen this to be a complaint of many. i also called jeep and filed a complaint with them directly. they say there is no recall for this type of thing happening. this can't be very safe having a quarter of a gallon of gas shooting out every time you fill up the tank. please help.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while parked and fueling the vehicles fuel tank over flowed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated the fuel tank did not have anything to make the fuel stop. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was inspected by the dealer and there was not a problem diagnosed so they could not assist and it could have been a user failure. the failure occured three different times. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure milage was 25,000. ds

2008 jeep liberty. consumer states several problems with the vehicle *tgw the consumer stated each time he filled the gas tank, gasoline spilled out of the fill opening moments after the nozzle shut off was triggered. the spill occurred in a boiling type manner and the volume of the spill was significant. the consumer also stated, throughout the three years he has owned the vehicle, he had a problem with rain getting inside the vehicle. the point of entry appeared to be at the top of the rear lift gate. the water volume was significant and not only soaked the rear bed, but it also ran to the front of the vehicle and soaked the front passenger carpet. the problem has been fixed twice, with the report that some drains ports were clogged. the last repair involved some additional caulking. *jb

I just returned from alexander chrysler jeep in franklin, tn 615-794-5000. they tried to blame a vacuum hose for letting gasoline fumes in the cabin of the 2008 jeep liberty to avoid a warranty fix. this is where the my health and safety complaint comes in. my wife has been complaining about being sick with headaches and stomach pain for months. originally we took the jeep in for gas cap warning on the odometer and engine light. nothing was found. today i took the jeep in an alexander found a clearly abraded or deteriorated vacuum hose that they said could allow the gas fumes into the cabin. my wife has been breathing this for months and if this is a common problem this exposes occupants to toxic fumes and risks an explosion hazard in the engine compartment. this needs to be investigated asap. if you can contact me asap i can let you see this hose as it sits. *tr
