When filling the jeep up with gas, no matter if the pump handle is locked or i'm manually pumping, at multiple gas stations i have experienced overflow. it runs down the side of the car and all over the ground. it has happened numerous times at different stations. it seems dangerous, because this could be a fire hazzard, and is an enviromental hazzard. i have seen several simmlar complaints on line, but when i checked with the dealer, i was told that they have not come accross this problem. . i try to pump as slow as posible when i know it is near full, but still get gas coming out every time that i let it go until the pump stops. i am not filling past the first pump shut off. this is obveously a problem that the manufacturer should be fixing.

Approximately 1 in 3 times i fill the gas tank the auto shutoff fails and spews gas out onto the vehicle and the ground (approx 2 cups). i was told by jeep that the gas tank must be replaced due to the failure of an internal sensor at a cost of $600. after a brief on-line investigation i note that this problem has been reported by at least scores of other jeep owners. this is more than an inconvenience due to discharge of a flammable liquid. in my 40 plus years of driving i have never experienced this problem and therefore believe it to be a manufacturers defect issue. this occurs at varied gas stations and therefore is not associated with faulty equipment at the stations.

While filling up my 2008 jeep liberty after the gas shuts off at the pump there is gas over flow from the tank all over the side of the truck and the ground below. i do not over fill my gas tank and i even try to stop before the tank is completely full, yet there is gas that flows back out of the tank after filling up my vehicle. this is a continual issue with the vehicle when i fill it up and i fill up at least 2 times a week due to the long commute that i have. i find that this is a hazard because i put my 4 year old daughter in the vehicle using the driver's side rear passenger door and the gasoline that has spilled is usually still present no matter how carefully i try to clean it up and off of the vehicle. also there is always gasoline on the ground at the pump after i am done pumping gas which cannot be good for the environment or the next person who has to get gas after me. *tr

When filling the tank with gas, the gas shoots out of the tank when removing the nozzle, spraying all over the car, myself and the ground. at first i thought it was the pump at the gas station but it has happened multiple times at different gas stations. i brought the car to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a problem with the valve in the tank, which cannot be fixed unless you replace the entire gas tank at the cost of $800.

I recently purchased a used 2008 jeep liberty sport 4x4. for the first couple months, i had no issues with the vehicle. recently, every time i fill up the gas tank, no matter which station or brand of gasoline, the fuel tank overfills and spits gas out. the pump will click off, but it is clicking off too late and gas is spilling down the side of the vehicle, onto me, and all over the ground. obviously, this is a major health issue to have gasoline on my skin, clothes, and to be breathing in the toxic fumes. additionally, this is a major environmental issue, as gas is spilling out onto the ground. finally, this could quickly become very dangerous. it also appears, based on some basic internet research, that this is a widespread problem with chrysler vehicles, especially these jeep liberty models. i'm a bit perplexed why there has not been a recall issued on this.

Jeep liberty spurts fuel when filling up. this has happened on numerous occasions. auto shutoff on fuel pump/nozzle shuts off then a large quantity of fuel spurts out of tank all over side of car and ground. this is an environmental and human safety hazard. now when filling up, i step away from the car and let the spurting finish. it happens every time i fill up. also happens when i don't set pump/nozzle to auto shut off, but when i do that, i get fuel all over my hands.

The problem occurs on a replacement gas tank. it did not happen with the original tank. when the tank is filled, the click of the pump shutting off can be heard, yet gasoline spews out of the filler pipe, down the side of the car, and onto the ground. this problem occurred a few times while the replacement tank was under warranty. i blamed the gas stations until i was informed by one of the attendants cleaning up the toxic spill that it was a known problem with jeeps. when i talked to my local jeep service on the phone, i was informed that the tank would need to be replaced. the cost of replacing the tank would be over $800 since the current tank was out of warranty. the problem has gotten worse in the last year, and i can no longer fill the tank completely without the gas spewing onto the ground. slowing the rate of filling does not prevent the problem. repeated stopping and starting the filling process does not prevent the problem. the only thing that can be done to avoid the problem is not filling the tank all of the way. video of the problem occurring can be provided upon request. *tr

When fueling, gasoline spits back just after pump automatically turns off. each time approximation one cup of gas is spilled on the side of the car and ground. in addition to wasting money, this is both a fire and environmental hazard. this occurs almost everytime the tank is filled up when the temperature is below 65f. *tr

After just purchasing vehicle from used dealership (2nd owner), first time filling up resulted in overflow of gas. tried multiple gas stations, speeds, amounts and resulted in same overflow. called dealership and they refused to check out the car unless i paid non-refundable 200 inspection fee before diagnosis (keep in mind i had just purchased the vehicle)! called manufacturer and they claimed not a known issue although current recall states otherwise. 2008 jeep liberty should be added to that recall effort!
