The 2006 jeep liberty spills fuel when filling at a gas station. the station pump shuts off and then a few cups of fuel overflows onto the side of the vehicle and the ground. if it is windy, you will get fuel everywhere. it doesn't matter what gas station you go to or how fast you fill up. your only option is to stop the pump before the tank is full. *tr

This was the first time that we had filled the tank up on our 2006 jeep liberty since we purchased it on may 29,2012. while standing at the pump waiting for the tank to fill up, the tank started overflowing with gas. i had gas all over me, the car, and the ground. i wrote it off as being a problem with the pump. two weeks later i go to a different pump to fill it up, and it happens again. so i called the dealership that we bought the vehicle from and explained the problem and we took it in for them to look at. they replaced a canister and leak protection gaurd, which did not fix the problem. i started looking on jeep forums and have found quite a few instances of this same problem on the jeep liberty and these people have also filed claims to the nhsta. the only way for the problem to be fixed is for the tank to be replaced because there is a check valve in the tank that is causing this. this is a very costly repair as i have called a couple of dealerships around in the are with the tank alone costing over $1,400 dollars.

This problem pertains to the 2006 jeep liberty crd 2.8l diesel. under acceleration from 55 mph to 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and would not go over 3,000 rpm. when the vehicle slowed to 45 mph, it would not increase speed, effectively in a limp-in mode . after the vehicle stopped, the engine was shut off for about 2 minutes then restarted. the vehicle traveled for approximately 5-7 miles with no problems then the incident happened again. the vehicle was towed to the jeep dealer where it was purchased and after two weeks the dealer basically gave up trying to fix the car. the issue has not been fixed and as i scan the internet i find this is a common yet dangerous problem with this vehicle.
