Left rear window fell down while car was parked. dealer service said the regulator was ok but the lift plate was broken. yet again, this is a door that has not been used in the last 4 weeks at a minimum. chrysler service rep who took inital call said that he gets lots of calls for this on 2005 & 2006 models. he went on to say that most of the time is it in doors that are seldom used. chrysler case manage stated that chrysler is under no obligation to address this issue even though they know it is a manufaturer defect. not only is this a safety issue, it is a security issue.

Right rear window fell down while car was parked. because this happened the the left rear window in 2009, i immediately called chrysler customer service who instructed me to take it to the dealer for a diagnosis, which confirmed the regulator needed to be replaced. once again this is a door that is seldom used and the window is almost never used.

Left rear window fell down while the car was parked. this door is seldom used and the window had not been activated since i purchased it in 2006. chrysler service dept. stated the regulator had to be replaced. because if was only 1200 miles out of warranty, chrysler customer service would cover all but $100 of the cost. internet search revealed multiple accounts of this issue,

My jeep liberty 2006 has huge window issues- already have had 2 regulators replaced and working on the third- jeep says they will only fix the window lift plate, but it's the whole regulator that's bad and they refuse to fix it- if i have it fixed, it's over $300 per window, and charged me a $90 diagnostic fee to tell me this- when is a recall going to be issued? not a safety issue?! tell that to those of us with small children in the back seat and a window falls down @ 55 mph! jeep needs to replace all four window regulators and at their cost, not mine! and not just the lift plates! it's only good buisness, especially when i've already paid over $20,000 to jeep for this liberty and now can't even drive it because my windows are crahing down!

Windows have fallen from jeep liberty 13 times. windows will fall while driving or while parked without warning.

Power window regulators on my jeep liberty have failed one after the other . i have now replaced all regulators more than once.
08/20/201055000
I, like most others owning a 2006 jeep liberty have had several problems with the window regulators that jeep continues to use. i have replaced two rear windows within a week costing about $1000.00 on my vehicle which has low mileage. i consider this a severe safety issue as there is no warning to when the windows fail and objects enter the vehicle at a high rate of speed which could cause a crash or death.

Last year, right rear power window fell into door while i was driving the car. the window would not go up again. repair was $380. now, the other three windows are having similar problems.

This is my second complaint concerning the rear windows of my 2006 jeep liberty. after reading all the complaints filed concerning this model of vehicle and the number of repeat failures, i just got done sealing the other back door window shut with silicone sealant. it is pretty bad when you owe the bank $11,000 for a vehicle and you have to constantly put money into it because of a defective part the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge.

I was driving down the road with my son in the car. all of a sudden the rear passenger window went down. it was chilly, so i ask my son to put the window up and he said i didn't put it down. i tried to to roll it up (power window) and heard a grinding noise, but the window would not go up. it apparently just fell down into the door and now i can not get it up. i went on -line to see if i could find a fix and ended up finding a huge amount of people with the exact same problem. i called the dealership this morning and they said i could bring it in and diagnostic is $120.00. are you kidding me???? so i taped a plastic bag over the window for now, but i did not realize how much i used my rear passenger window for driving, until it was no longer usable. this is absolutely unexceptable that this many people have had this problem and nothing has been done by the dealership or chrysler.

On my 2006 jeep liberty the rear drivers side window fell down on interstate 80 during a heavy rain storm. the rear seat and floor was soaked but the real problem was when it fell it scared me so bad i almost lost control of my vehicle

It is common that 2006 jeep liberty window regulators fail frequently. i have had all 4 of my windows fail; two of the windows have failed a second time following dealer repair. although the rear windows are rarely used, both have fallen completly into the door while i was driving. this is clearly a dangerously flawed design that should be corrected by jeep/chrysler.
06/01/201047000
2006 jeep liberty rear driver's side window free falls into door. this is the 2nd time this issue has occurred on the very same door. the first time, it was fixed by the dealer at no cost (mileage: 19000, feb., 2008). this time, after explaining that the problem was exactly the same as the first time, the dealer asked for $90 to diagnose the problem, which i found ridiculous. after a very brief internet search, i found that this is an extremely common problem, which makes it even more infuriating that the dealer wanted me to pay them to diagnose the problem. the dealer finally offered to make the repair for $100, which i declined. this is a clear safety issue, not to mention a security issue. when this happens when the car is in motion, it causes the driver to be distracted, which can -- and eventually will -- lead to an accident. on the security side, this issue can occur at any time, even when the vehicle is not being driven, which could lead to a window being open without the owner's knowledge. chrysler and the government regulators need to start treating this like the safety issue that it is and issue a recall. it makes no sense that an owner should have to pay to have a clearly defective item replaced, especially when its going to be replaced with virtually the same part, which will eventually fail again.

The rear left window stopped working, and now slides down iinto the door on its own. thiis seems to be a very common problem on jeeps. at this point in time, anyone can walk up to my jeep an simply push the rear window down from the outside. luckily, i was alone in my car when the window stopped working and slid down on its own.

Window regulator failure. window spontaneously falls down. have had this problem 5 times now (obviously one window twice). chrysler needs to fix it.
05/20/20101
Both rear regulators have quit working, leaving my jeep and myself vulnerable to others being able to easily enter the vehicle. we have replaced one and will be replacing the other next week due to the cost. as if that wasn't enough, the sun roof just quit working and stuck partially open. i hardly ever use it, so it did not break due to use. we took it into the dealership and it will cost $1300.00 dollars to repair, which we cannot afford. also, fuel quite often overflows when fueling, spilling gasoline down the side of my jeep as well as spraying out onto the person fueling. it does not matter how slowly we put the gasoline in, it still overflows. *tr

I had my 2006 jeep liberty in my driveway and looked out my bedroom window and noticed that my rear window was wide open in the rain!! i'm glad this didn't happen in a high crime area! anyway, brought it to the dealer the next day after wrapping plastic over it with duct tape and had it repaired under extended warranty (47,000k). the dealer said it was very common in that vehicle. i explained that i'm lucky it didn't happen on the highway with small children in the back seat. two weeks later, the opposite rear window began to drop into the door well after hearing a popping sound which distracted me. this is clearly a safety issue and should be corrected by chrysler. i would also like to get my $200 deductible reimbursed for this inconvenience. thank you. *tr

Multiple repeated failures of power windows, most recently left rear on or about 5/1/2010. we have had to have the same problem repaired on multiple occasions. door fell into window when husband was being admitted to health south rehabilitation hospital two years ago, and neither dealership not extended warranty coverage would cover an emergency repair. we live at an altitude of over 8,000 feet and my husband has had surgeries for brain aneurysms and for lung cancer, which has left him in fragile health. we bought out jeep liberty after his surgeries because he liked the multiple passenger side handles on the renegade model. when a window fails to function properly, it is a major problem for an older man who is very sensitive to cold. this is a known problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer. are we just waiting for a vulnerable person to pass away from exposure?

What a joke, i traded in my foreign car (which with 150000 miles, i dumped probably a $1000 in total for repairs) for an american vehicle. my back window fell down and looking at a $500 bill to repair it, i took silicone window sealer and sealed the window shut. needless to say, my next vehicle will be one that has a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty like my last one did. i can't believe with all of the reports of window failures the manufacturer will not stand by their vehicle. they continually manufacture vehicles with obvious defects, but with 32,000 miles on the vehicle hit you up for $500 a repair bill. this is not a repair, it is extortion to fix something that was and continues to be a defect in workmanship and materials, as well as poor design. it irks me when american car makers whine and get bail-out money because their product is defective and not the same workmanship as a foreign vehicle.

2006 jeep liberty power windows fail without warning dropping down inside doors due to faulty window regulators. i am currently having my 5th one replaced and jeep has known of this issue 1000's have complained and jeep has done nothing but take customers money to repair a known defect. just a simple search of the web will find thousands of customers with the same problem

Window regulators break with normal use. this has created a financial stress and safety issue. my doors will not open. i was informed by a dealership that door opening mechanism gets interfered with when the regulator breaks. they were able to get the windows to stay up, as i cannot afford the replacement. but both rear doors will not open from the inside, and the windows will not function.

I have a 2006 jeep liberty, the front drivers window and the rear drivers window have both fallen while driving. i currently have them ty wrapped up. this is a temporary fix but also a serious safety concern as the driver would have a problem with egress in an accident. chrysler will not address this issue, this is obviously a factory defect based on the amount of complaints, this needs some attention!

On 3/20/10 the front passenger side window fell down while car was parked with dog inside in a snow storm in parker, co. my dog jumped out and was recovered by animal control. several items in my jeep were covered in snow/ice including paperwork and official forms for for my work that has since been ruined due to water damage. this is the 5th time i have experienced issues with window regulators in this same vehicle. in august of 2009, the rear dirver's side window had to be replaced. at this time chrysler told me that defective parts were being used in libertys but there is no recall and the replacement option was to replace the entire glass and regulator. in december of 2009, the drivers side window began rolling up crooked and was replaced. the passenger window is yet to be replaced as i am waiting on a response from chrysler to see if they will cover the $500.00 repair cost since this is a recurring problem. *dt

I was driving on 295 in baltimore, md during rush hour when my driver's side rear window started to fall. this is the 6th time i have had a regulator problem, second time for this window. i almost hit the car in front of my because it caught me off gaurd. i went to the dealership and sure enough its the regulator except this time they aren't just replacing the regulator but the glass too. i really wanted another jeep but since i keep having the same problem that isn't going to happen. jeep needs to issue a recall, everyone in the dealership said this is an ongoing problem. if they know it is a problem; they need to do something about it. they need to do something before someone dies from it. it is extremely distracting. it also reduces your visibility when you have to duct tape your window shut.
03/10/20101
The window regulators fail on recurring basis. the front driver side window regulator failed twice and the front passenger window regulator failed recently. two different dealers recognized this as a common failure item but charges approx $600 per repair because my jeep is out of warranty. the dealers stated the regulator piece failing on recurring basis is made of plastic. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep liberty and i have replaced all 4 window regulators/motors. the dealership states that they are a problem with the liberates and are known to repeatedly break with normal use. the first time they broke was only one year and 6,000 miles. the second time was six months later on a road trip. i had to get them repaired out of state. after three years and having them all replaced, the driver side window was still hanging and was repaired again. now at the present time 1/27/2010 and 19,000 miles the driver side window components are broken again and will need to be taked in for another repair. this part should be recalled and fixed. this has caused a great amount of economic stress for myself and many other jeep owners who are forced to keep handing over money to jeep for a part that they know is defective.*cw

The drivers side back window of my 2006 jeep liberty sport fell down in the door while my wife was driving it on the interstate. the car is only 3 years old and the window is rarely used. we do not have children of passengers in the vehicle that use it. i called the local jeep dealer to find out that it would cost $550 to replace the window and mechanism (the window didn't break, but the new window regulator assembly requires it). my wife and i talked to the service manager and they did pick up 50% of the cost. *tr

The window regulator on the front driver's side window suddenly broke while driving as i was rolling up the window, causing the window to crack while halfway down. this is the second time this has happened. last time it was on a left, rear window. i brought it to tyson's jeep in virginia and they said it is a known problem but not part of a recall. they replaced the regulator and the glass, costing me approximately $500. the parts were available, but are of the same design, so the problem could reoccur at any time. *tr

I bought a 2006 jeep liberty limited on 8-20-09 in excellent condition with approximately 50,000 miles. before i even drove the car off the dealerships lot, the rear driver's-side window/window regulator failed rendering the window inoperable. dealership did not have part and had to seal in up position so as not to fall, while part is being ordered. upon extensive research on the internet on various highly respected car review/rating sites, i have learned that the 2006 jeep liberty has a known defect in quality of window regulator design and material used which causes windows to drop into doors or cease operating routinely on average of every 2-3 months. yesterday while driving, my rear passenger window dropped while i was driving 65 mph on a major highway in traffic. i was subsequently startled to the point i swerved, and narrowly missed hitting another car which would have caused a multiple car collision on a major interstate. i have since taped my window in the up position until i can resolve this issue with dealer. dealership has informed me that they will only cover this first replacement/repair, and that i will be responsible for future window regulator repairs of $500.00 each. this is absolutely unacceptable. a company/dealership should stand 100% behind their product and should certainly address potential safety issues resulting from something as critical as this. the known window regulator failure could cause accidents, bodily injury, theft/vandalism issues, and depreciation and degradation of vehicle interior due to weather damage. i will be filing complaints with state attorney general and car manufacturer/corporate headquarters. a safety recall should immediately be issued, and these window regulators should be redesigned with something other than plastic that has proven to repeatedly fail. while certainly an inconvenience of time, and a financial drain and stress to consumer, this is most assuredly a very serious danger to occupants & other drivers. *tr

2006 jeep liberty window fell down without having any reason. i have read on this website that an investigation does not need a specific number of complaints to start. i am just wondering why a part that cost from 350-600 to replace and has a number of complaints does not have an investigation. this to me seems like a one way for the chrysler dealer decided to start to make money. this vehicle has had all four window regulators replaced in the last year and a half and now the driver side is down again. when will the manufacture or safercar going to step to the plate and do what they say they will do? *tr

Driver side window dropped - it's the window regulator - again. have replaced the other window plates and regulators in this car 4 times! really scary when you're driving and the window suddenly drops! especially nice when it's pouring out! previously was reimbursed by chrysler for repairs, but now they've 'changed their policy' (really????). this will cost me $375 at my own shop as opposed to $508 at the jeep dealership. i wouldn't care if it was twice the price, i'm not giving jeep a dime! this should have been a recall item, they should be ashamed of themselves. *tr

Driving vehicle, rolled down the driver side rear window with power window button, attempted to roll window up later and heard a pop sound. arrived home, removed the interior door panel, noticed the window slide regulator had broken from the plastic. used zip ties to keep window held in the up position, rendering the window useless. unable to afford to have it fixed. several months later, rolled down the passenger side rear window and experienced the exact same thing as above. november 12, 2012, wife is driving home from work, rolled down the passenger front window and experienced again what happened to the last two instances. attempted to contact chrysler support, was told to get an inspection from a dealership and then contact them back. *tr

My power window regulator for the passenger side rear window went out on me this morning. the window motor is fine, but the linkage that connects to the window is broken. this cannot be fixed by simple small part, the mopar is ripping off the public by requiring the entire assembly. the entire design needs to be overhauled, because it is a simple fix that should not require the entire replacement of the system. *tr

Just bought the jeep and on the way home the back glass fell down. did not know what it was almost run off the road trying to figure it out. needless to say i took it back the next morning and they knew right away it was a window regulator. had to wait till monday morning to take it back in and was 3 days in getting it back. found out mine was not the only one with faulty windows by talking to the customers in there for the same reason. needless to say i now ride around with duck tape and plastic and am waiting for the next one to go. lots of people have had problems with these regulators and they need to be fixed now before someone wrecks and kills themselves with these things falling down. i traded in my toyota in fear of a sticking gas peddle and now i have to drive in fear of my windows falling down. i am only asking for a simple recall to a simple fix for all of the jeep owners who drive around with duck tape up to the windows. it is giving jeep a bad reputation and have heard people say they will never own another jeep because of this. don't let jeep be in the hot seat with shame on you jeep when a death occurs because of this. *tr

Jeep liberty 2006. bought new. to date 6 power windows have failed. 2 of them obviously for a second time after repair by chrysler dealership. i live in south florida were there is no chance of the windows becoming stuck with ice buildup between the weather striping & the glass. this is a design fault that chrysler is aware of. incredible that a large corporation is unable to design a powered window system that's been around for 50 years. during severe weather, rain storms, blowing snow or severe cold, this can become a dangerous situation. this failure is prolific on all jeep liberty's built from i believe 2003 to 2007. my jeep has had failures that at the retail level would cost over $2000.00 approx $300 - $400 per window. its only just over 3 years old. i am now afraid to open & close the windows. i have secured the last failure in the up position using a cable tie. chrysler needs to address this issue. *tr

When the window regulator breaks on a jeep liberty, the cable assembly can break off of the window. the cable then can come out of the door locking assembly if you try to use the window close switch. this will prevent the door from being opened. this has happened to me twice so far in 18 months. if the vehicle were in an accident and ems needed to get a person out of the vehicle, there is no way they could in the above conditions. the number of complaints that are out there on this problem are staggering. please do something before someone gets hurt or killed by jeeps lack of response. *tr

Window regulator failed causing window glass to fall open. our family pet exited the window while the vehicle was moving. these window regulators fail easily and without notice. windows will suddenly just drop, or open. this can allow a pet or child to exit the vehicle while moving. also a security hazard as the window regulator can be broken easily by placing both hands on the window and pushing down causing the plastic parts in the regulator to fail. the regulator has to be replaced - if done by a dealership can cost $450 per window. the are many documented cases of multiple window regulators failing on all year models. *tr

 1. i purchased my jeep liberty crd new in sep 2006. i noticed coming home from work today that it sounded like the rear window driver side was slightly open so i tried to close it and heard a grating noise so i stopped pushing the button. drove home. got out and looked. saw it was down about an inch. tried to raise it. same noise. used my hands and pushed it up. knew something was wrong. got the husband. he pulled off the panel... we saw the orange regulator cord was not attached. then discovered it was not screwed in to the motor on the other end. broken plastic. odometer reading 36150. priceless. 2. this is the first i have had the problem. i live in colorado and no one even sits in the rear seat. yes it gets hot. but i had a 1994 ford explore with over 200k that i signed over to my daughter when she graduated and the windows never died.... 3. appears since it is out of warranty at 36150 i will need to contact the dealer and pay $375 to replace the regulator that is well documented as nonfunctional. *tr

Jeep 2006 liberty bought new 12/26/06. as of today my jeep will be brought back to the dealership's service dept. to have the back passenger side window looked at. i have had issues with the jeep regarding the windows since 2007. the dealership has replaced the regulators and the windows had to be replaced. the last time the regulator and window was replaced was august 2008 and not even a year later the same issue occurs. the is something that chrysler needs to address and have resolved for other owners who are having the same problems.

Power windows of jeep liberty 2006 4x4 failed a second time. after driving on highway i realized that rear window on passenger side slid down into door and could not be pushed up again. this had happened the first time in juli 2008 and was repaired under warranty. the window regulator was replaced. the failing of the power windows is a safety issue. the car can not safely left alone closed because the window always will slide down without warning-> rain damage, theft. load can get damaged or fall out of the car, kids or pets can get hurt. the dealership states that the whole window assembly needs to be exchanged ($750) although the window is not damaged. this failure of the window regulators is common on 2006 and older models. jeep has to do a recall and provide reliable and safe power windows on liberty 2006 and older models.

Left rear power window regulator assembly failed when trying to raise the window. i heard a loud pop, followed the sound of the motor working, but the window wouldn't raise. scary, as my small child was in the seat next to the window. i have been given an estimate of $428 to fix the problem. i am adding my complaint to the long list in the hopes that chrysler & jeep would finally fix this systemic issue. since this is both a safety and security issue, maybe the nhtsa can help! *tr
