ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
PE07027CHRYSLER GROUP LLC05/29/200708/02/2007ENGINE STALLING & ELECTRIC POWER LOSS07V291000
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.

After driving my 07 wrangler home from work, approximately 35 minutes, i parked in my drive way and the under part of my jeep caught on fire and then the jeep exploded, catching my house on fire. my driveway is on an downward incline.

My 2007 jeep wrangler has had engine stall two times now at 50-60 mph. causing light failure, engine failure, no brakes or power steering. i have taken it to the dealership two times, after restarting the vehicle. the next time it happens, they said call a tow truck and have it towed to them. this started at approximately 26,000 miles and again at 30,000. both times nothing was found and the computer programs were current. *tr

The events leading up to m failure are quite simple. i take the same route to and from work everyday, and at the point where the failure happened i always have my cruise set at between 55 - 60 mph. it was a regular day, no precipitation and i was cruising in sixth gear. while i was driving down the road, all the sudden i noticed my stereo and head lights turned off, i looked down and all of my dash lights and instrument panels had turned off. sitting in my seat while driving down the road at 60 mph it looked as if my car was turned off. it lasted long enough for me to realize i had a potentially huge problem, and to look all around me quickly for nearby vehicles just in case something was about to go terribly wrong. it was probably on 4 - 6 seconds in all actuality, but it felt like longer. i would be very interested to know what would have happened if i had tried to steer or brake. would it have worked? also, my jeep is still 100% stock, factory tires and all. i was fortunate enough not to have an accident, but i don't know if i would have been able to avoid one if i had to because i don't know if the vehicle would have still been responsive during the black out. this happened two days ago, and it is now memorial day weekend. i plan on contacting the dealer on tuesday to see what can be done, but from my research online, my hopes are not high. it seems there are plenty of related incidents out there, and nobody seems to be getting any real help from their dealerships. *tr

While driving my jeep 07 wrangler the engine stalled at approximately 35 mph while driving. the radio went dead and the steering became very stiff for 2 seconds. the car then restarted by itself while still moving down the road. the dashboard lit up just as it does when i turn the car on and the seat belt chime sounded 5 times just like it does upon startup. within 15 minutes the whole process occurred a second time with the same result. the car briefly stalled then restarted while driving down a highway. i have previously been in touch with a dealership and they told me that my vin was not included in the recall for stalling engines but apparently they were wrong because this happened to me two times on one trip. i am going to stop by a different dealership and ask them to perform the tipm reset for me but want to alert others that their vehicle may be affected even though not listed in the recall notice. *tr

Car loses power while driving. all dash lights go off and then come back on quickly. chrysler did recall jeep wranglers for this problem, but when i asked the service department, they told me mine was not one that was recalled. this has happened several times in the year that i have owned the jeep, most recently march 11, driving at 35mph. *tr

2007 jeep wrangler reboots itself while driving. while driving the vehicle, the engine and all electrical items fail and stay off for about 5 seconds. then everything comes back on as if nothing ever happened. the first failure occurred on april 5, 2007, and the second failure occurred on may 9, 2007. the vehicle rebooted itself five times while driving home from work on march 5, 2008. *tr

My model year 2007 jeep wrangler with the 3.8l v6 engine and automatic transmission continues to lose engine power without warning. when this occurs, momentary loss of engine power on acceleration or at cruising speed and all interior warning lights in the instrument cluster light up all at once. the radio whether playing a cd or just the radio feature cuts out at the same time this happens. this has occurred whether cruising down the highway or in stop and go traffic. tonight it happened while sitting at a stop light and when i accelerated on the light changing to green, the engine lost power and all warning lights briefly came on and the radio stopped. the engine never stalled, but lost all power and within a few seconds all worked again. i nearly was hit from behind when they started to move forward through the light. this is a safety concern now that i've almost been in an accident as a result of this condition. i'll be contacting both my jeep dealer in the morning and daimler-chrysler about this. *tr

On feb 5th, i was driving on the freeway at about 65 mph and my car died - dash lights went on, car jerked to a violent slow down and i almost crashed into a semi on my left, the car pulled to the left. all resumed to normal after about 4 seconds. i have filed previous complaint, conf nbr 10188682. this is the 4th incident but what is most shocking is that the first 2 times i brought it to the dealership repaid shop i was told that they couldn't duplicate the error and that they and chrysler corp didn't have record of any other reports of this problem. on the 2nd visit, i advised the service person that he should look at this web site if he had never heard of this problem since there were numerous complaints. on the 3rd incident, when i got home, there was a recall safety recall g25-program tipm-engine stalling- so i called the service center, again, advised that car stalled again and that i also received recall and scheduled the service - aug 2007. after this visit i felt more secure to drive the car because at least chrysler had acknowledged the problem. the on feb 5th 2008 as i was driving to work, it happened again. i continued to work and at the end of the day when i went back to the car it wouldn't start, all lights/radio etc came on but the car wouldn't turn over. i had it towed to jeep. i was told by service person, after the car was inspected that the control module - same item that caused previous problems, had to be replaced. i purchased this vehicle new, so that i would have a dependable and safe vehicle - neither of which it is! i asked the service manager what chrysler could do for me. he said that from the notes it looked like i only had one occurrence with this issue and that this was the first he heard of this type of problem with jeep - wow - either he out right lied to me or he is an uninformed manager. needless to say i am not confident that this issue wont occur again! *tr

I was driving on the highway at around 65 mph and the car stalled. all the lights on the dash lit up and the car was in neutral and about 4 seconds later the car regained its power. this happened 2/1/08 with 11,500 miles. this also occurred on the highway around may 2007 with around 2,500 miles. *tr

It is a 2007 jeep wrangler x with a 6 speed manual, there is a loud squealing noise coming from underneath the truck. when in the rpm range of 1500 to 2000 rpms it makes this noise. it is starting to become very annoying because the more i drive the louder it gets. the dealership has replaced the throw out bearing per the tsb that was given. that has not fixed the problem. the dealership said they contacted chrysler and that it would take 30 days to get a field engineer out to look at my problem to come up with a solution for it. so i am still waiting and not very happy with the dealerships outcome. *jb

While negotiating a right hand curve on a local town road in my 07 jeep wrangler x, 2-dr, the dashboard lit up and the engine stalled for approx. 2 seconds and then restarted itself for no apparent reason. this caused a loss of power steering (i assume) as steering/controlling the vehicle became very difficult. i was traveling about 35 mph with no passengers. this vehicle has a build date of 04/17/07 and was purchased brand new from a jeep dealer on 07/02/07. the vehicle had 4166 miles on the odometer when this incident occurred. after checking daimlerchrysler safety recall g25, reprogram tipm - engine stalling dated july 2007, i see that although i have the exact symptoms listed, the build date of my vehicle falls outside the date listed in the recall (01-22-07). obviously this needs to be updated. this can also be verified via the following internet forum thread: http://www.jk-forum.com/showthread.php?t=2366 this forum includes quite a few owners that have had this issue including many that; 1) have had the recall procedure performed already; 2) have a vehicle outside of the specified build date; or 3) actually own a 2008 model year jeep wrangler. it seems the recall procedure or fix does not actually correct this issue and that the recall should be expanded to include later build dates. luckily i was driving in a slower, low traffic, less hazardous situation during my first incident but now i am concerned that if this occurs again during faster, highway use or in a busy intersection and with family members/passengers the outcome could be disastrous. my vehicle is never abused and well maintained. please feel free to contact me if further details are required. *tr

While traveling with the cruise control engaged, as i was ascending a turn on a steep grade, the transmission downshifted from 4th to 2nd gear abruptly. when this occurred, the esp light on the dash lit up and the engine shut off. i pulled off the freeway to check under the hood, but didn't see anything wrong. i re-started the engine and everything was fine. took it to the dealer when i returned home from the trip and they checked the ecu and no warnings came up. *jb

At 65 mph all dash lights came on as if jeep had lost power and came back on. i looked online for any incidences like this and found a news story that said chrysler was being investigated and was to recall 80,000 jeeps. i called chrysler and they denied we have a problem and they were unwilling to even look at my jeep because they claim the vin number didn't match the recall. meanwhile i am driving a jeep unsure if it will stall out at highway speeds. *tr

Jeep wrangler loses power. everything turns off at highway speeds. took in to have it fixed. they couldn't find a problem. then a few months later i received a recall notice describing same problem. mean while my jeep keeps shutting down while driving. the dealer claimed they fixed it. but they only made the problem worse. now it does same more often so took it back. now they say they cant duplicate the problem and that as far as they are concerned there is nothing wrong and they claim they already fixed the recall problem . i told them they did not. then they suggested that i let one of their hourly mechanic's drive it home with him to do further tests on his way home. i refused to let them drive my jeep home. so i picked it up. the paper they forced me to sign before they would let me have it stated that i refused further tests.. that is a lie. i do not consider their guy driving my jeep home and going on joy rides with it a test. please advise me on what i can do now. thanks james. k warren. *tr

I was driving on the freeway at around 70 mph and the car all of a sudden jerked forward and slowed way down. all of the dash lights went on, the car went dead for about 5 seconds and then started going again like nothing happened. all the lights went off again, and it returned to normal. i am not interested in having another problem with this jeep. there have already been brake problems twice... one of which caused a crash. the question asking oem below... i don't know what that means. *tr

2007 jeep wrangler jk: 2 door:model x:manual transmission: purchased on 3/29/07: at 2,833 miles, my vehicle stalled on interstate 10 at 60 mph. the vehicle stalled disabling all power to the controls for 3 seconds during morning rush hour traffic. the vehicle then restarted on its own and i continued on my way, thinking it was simply a minor malfunction. it recurred at 5,180 miles while i was in neutral gear, the vehicle stalled and 2 seconds later it restarted on its own. after this experience, i went to research this problem online. i found that this problem is now called the stall bug and it is happening to hundreds of 2007 jeep jk wrangler owners on both manual and automatic transmissions. i found that many of the owners who have reported this problem have taken their vehicles to their jeep dealership and the service department ends up sending them back without the problem being fixed. this is unacceptable and someone is going to get hurt. as soon as i found out that there was this grossly overlooked problem, i took my vehicle immediately to the dealership to be fixed (6/30/07). my vehicle is currently at the dealership being looked at by the service department, but from the research that i have done there is no solution to the problem yet and the dealership will most likely send me home with a ticking time bomb of a vehicle as it is expected that the stall will happen again at around 9,000 miles.  Vehicle stalls out, all idiot lights go on, headlights and other lighting go off, then vehicle restarts, has happened a few times, and has happened after dealership fixed with a manufacturer issued tsb, on this last date i was driving at night on the highway @ 70mph ! lost all lights and power. and this is only one of the issues with this 2007 vehicle i purchased in nov ! i even have a casemanager thought the manuf. for a roof leak that they have tried to fix 5 times and it still leaks. *tr

 1) the electronic stability program light has come on and stayed on 3 times over the last couple of weeks on my 2007 jeep wrangler. 2) yesterday, while traveling at freeway speeds, the vehicle stalled momentarily, but restarted. in surprise, i swerved a little bit, but not enough to lose control of the vehicle. as i understand it, other '07 wranglers have experienced this as well and it has gotten progressively worse. this seems to be a significant safety issue that could result in a crash. 3) i contacted my dealer today to take a look at my vehicle tomorrow. i described the issue, but they seemed unfamiliar with it. *tr

I have a 2007 jeep wrangler 2dr, automatic transmission. no power amenities group. build date of 9/12/2006. it has a random stalling problem and has since i purchased it. it has stalled at least 6 times on me that i can recall. there does not appear to be any pattern that i can relate, speed is irrelevant, it has happened at dead stops, and at 65mph thruway speeds. it occurs without warning; all of a sudden all the idiot lights come on, immediately everything shuts down. radio, lights, dash gauges, engine, everything. no power steering, no power brakes, everything is gone. this happens for maybe a second or two. sometimes it comes back on by itself, sometimes it doesn't. i have had it back to the dealer, they attempted the computer reflash. it had no effect. i have no complaint with cecconi's chrysler, they have attempted to fix the problem. i believe this is daimler's blunder. *tr

I have a 2007 jeep wrangler. i have had 3 issues with it stalling or with systems failure. the first time happened on the date listed below. i was traveling through a busy intersection at about 50 mph when my jeep lost power for about 5 seconds. luckily, i made it through without any issues and the power resumed. 3 days later, i took my jeep into my local dealer (where it was purchased) and they said there was no diagnostic that could be performed on it at that time because the software wasn't available yet. since that date, i have had 2 other similar issues. about 4 months after the first incident, my jeep stalled out at a stoplight. i had to restart the engine. about 3 weeks ago, the same thing happened in my driveway. i started my jeep in the early morning to warm it up before work, and when i came back out in about 5 minutes, and as no longer running. i didn't think too much about this until i read an article recently about others having issues with their 2007 jeep wranglers. i wanted to make sure my stories were known, too! thanks! *tr

Stall: my new 2007 wrangler has twice stalled and lost all power for 1-2 seconds at highway speeds. when this happens the dashboard lights all turn on as if the car was just started, the brakes and steering stop responding and the engine seems to either turn off completely or go silent. this lasts for a couple of seconds and then the vehicle powers up again and acts as if nothing has happened. this has happened twice so far on straight lanes and am worried this will cause an accident if it happens on a curve or when i need to use my brakes. i have taken it to jeep and was given the response cannot duplicate, no action taken but this is not acceptable to me and don't want them to finally take this problem seriously when my wife, 5 month old infant and myself are on the news because we died on the road. *tr

I currently own a 2007 jeep wrangler .i have experienced a stalling problem with vehicle 5 time in the last 2 months. 4 of the 5 time i was traveling at night at speeds of 50 to 65 mph on an interstate. the reason i am writing this complaint is i almost rear ended a tractor trailer running at a slower speed after the stall turned of the light and gave me no brake power. this is very dangerous almost costing me my life. i am taking it to the dealer to have a recall notice done on 03/21/08. this problem seems to be coming quite common on these jeeps, i hope a death does not happen before they fix the defect. *tr

At approximately 3,000 miles vehicle stalled while driving up a hill at 45 mph. radio turned off, lost control of steering, all lights lit up on dashboard. this lasted for approximately 4-5 seconds. scary! took vehicle to dealer for flashof computer per technical service bulletin (tsb). all was well until yesterday at 9,100 miles. same exact thing happened! will have dealer check obd for error codes. this was a major safety problem and concern, could have been traveling at a high rate of speed on interstate with semi behind me. then what? thank you for your time and assistance with this safety issue and potential for injury or loss of life. just wanted the problem acknowledged and corrected.*ak

Knocking noise coming from underneath the vehicle when driven. it would come and go, mechanic checked for the obvious loss parts (muffler, shocks, etc...). the next day when the noise reappeared, the mechanic has driven less than a quarter mile when the engine seized. mechanic dropped the oil pan and found metal shavings in the oil and the bearing had spun. chrysler is refusing to take any responsibility to fix this common problem in the 2007 jeep wrangler. the mechanics we have spoken with have related that the new 07 3.0 liter engine was found to have issues that lead to this spun bearing. repairs and parts are well over $8000.

I am the owner or a 2007 jeep wrangler x 4x4 6spd. the vehicle has approx 2,600 miles on it. on may 30th i was driving in a residential area when i was approaching a stop sign. i was on my way to get gas and my gas light was on (i do not know if this is relevant or not but i will report it). while approaching the stop sign, with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor at about 3 mph the vehicle just stalled. no real warning just a flash of the radio lights and dash lights and the vehicle died. i thought it had run out of gas but it started right back up. then i thought possibly the gas was very low but there were still 2 gallons left in the tank as i found out when i filled up the tank 2 minutes later. after this happened i researched this stall a little more online. i came across jk-forum.com and this was not just an isolated incident. this is a very wide spread problem in which the dealers poke and hope with their repairs and they do not work. this is a very big safety issue. i think about it everytime i set in my vehicle now waiting for it to stall in an even worse situation such as a highway off or on ramp or something. chrysler must be held responsible for finding a fix asap in my opinion. *tr
