In a letter dated november 3, 2009, chrysler group llc (chrysler), notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall of approximately 161,000 model year (my) 2007 and 2008 jeep wrangler vehicles built with automatic transmissions.chrysler stated that these vehicles were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system and the operation of these vehicles beyond the limits of reasonable usage over a period of time could result in transmission failure and in some cases transmission fluid expulsion.the expelled fluid could come in contact with a hot engine or exhaust component and cause a fire.chrysler will conduct a safety recall to install a hot oil warning message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid temperature condition.an owner's manual addendum stating the purpose of the hot oil message and chime to include caution and warning statements regarding elevated transmission fluid temperature conditions will be provided to owners.based on chrysler's decision to conduct a safety recall this engineering analysis is closed.

On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.

Driving down the highway normal traffic conditions. vehicle shut off at 65mph on highway with loss of all electrical.

Transmission over heated and purged fluid on to hot exhaust manifold/cat converter. jeep did not catch on fire but was close enough to cause alarm it was severely smoking enough to alert others drivers who waved me over. its been having shift problems since purchased new in 07/07, including sever shuddering between 1-2 shifts and not downshifting unless holding the throttle down for 2-4 seconds making it really hard to keep up in regular traffic. current mileage is 6,200. local dealer keeps flashing the computer with software upgrades but nothing improves conditions. current word from dealer is that condition could not be duplicated / no 'codes' stored. *tr

Whilst driving at 65mph the vehicle began to vibrate violently and become uncontrollable. almost like it was bouncing from tire to tire. came to a stop and turned off the engine. took the vehicle to the dealership and was told they have recognized the problem and fixed it. i was told it was a problem with the torque converter. this occurred around 14000 miles. since it was fixed i have had problems with the transmission and went back to the dealership who could not find a problem. the initial problem occurred again at around 16,000 miles the vehicle becomes uncontrollable due to the violent shaking. this is a serious safety issue. *tr

When merging into traffic getting on the freeway, my engine does not respond to throttle input as i try to accelerate. the tachometer and speedometer seem to lock up as the vehicle quits responding to driver commands. this problem has happened twice in the first 1000 miles since being purchased. the dealer cannot seem to duplicate this discrepancy. this vehicle is a 2007 jeep wrangler 2 dr 4x4. *jb

While driving on a canyon road at around 50 mph the jk wrangler stopped responding. all the lights on the dash came on. the transmission felt like it went into neutral, but the engine did not stall. the problem lasted for 3-4 seconds before self correcting. i was on a straight stretch of road , and the vehicle was lined up well so there was not a crash.*ak
POWER TRAIN - MANUAL TRANSMISSION

The jeep wrangler jk series with manual transmissions have in inner shift boot that becomes dislodged and cause the vehicle to pop out of gear. this happens at least once a month. my jeep was brought to the dealership for repair and the problem happened again after 2 months. other jeep wrangler owners report the same issue.

2007 jeep wrangler with a manual 6-speed transmission. when starting from a stop 1st gear will disengage (pop-out) transmission when the clutch is released. does not happen everytime but occasionally, with no warning, often leaving one in the middle of oncoming traffic unable to accelerate without having to re-engage 1st gear or going directly to 2nd gear.

07 jeep wrangler jumps out of first gear intermittently

Manual transmission does not shift properly since day one of ownership. it has been serviced by 3 different dealerships and remains problematic and dangerous. at the current time it is hard to shift into second gear and pops out of first gear.

I acquired my jeep wrangler (manual transmission) in january of 2007, shortly thereafter it started popping out of 1st gear. at first it was just once or twice a month, it has progressed to a point where it was doing it 4-6 times per day. at first i thought that i was not engaging it properly, but i

2007 jeep wrangler. when leaving a stop, manual transmissiion violently pops out of 1st gear on accelaration. this seems to happen when accelaration is needed most of all such as when turning left on a busy 4-lane road. driver is then unable to put car in any gear for several seconds. this will lead to a serious accident eventually by being hit broadside or from the rear if stalled leaving a traffic light or stop sign. dealer acts like they never heard of this but the web is full of similar reports. there is no fix for this other than a transmission redesign. this has happened about 15 times in the past 3-years. the only thing that seems to help is to hold the shifter firmly in 1st gear when accelerating to prevent it from popping out of gear. i'm going to have to trade the jeep because it is unsafe. unfortunatgely the dealer will sell it to some poor unsuspecting person who will probably kill himself.

Sixth occurrence of problem: when in first gear, the gear bangs and locks-up. this normally occurs when just starting across an intersection after being stopped at a red light. this is extremely dangerous, as another vehicle could rear-end me or side hit me if i were making a left turn across an intersection. my local dealership cannot duplicate this problem when in for service. i have researched other jeep wrangler vehicle owners with this same problem reported, and the only fix was a complete transmission replacement. other odi by me 1030673(2/5/2010); 10310930(2/16/2010); 10310938(2/16/2010). *tr

When in first gear, the gear bangs and locks-up. this normally occurs when just starting across an intersection after being stopped at a red light. this is extremely dangerous, as another vehicle could rear-end me, or i could be hit while making a left turn across an intersection. this has happened 3 times to me now. the latest time was today. i have researched this problem and other jeep wrangler 6-speed owners are having the same problem with little help at local dealerships. i had this at my local dealership on 1/25/10 and they could not duplicate problem at 17,936 mileage. the same problem occurred on 1/18/2010. other drivers have indicated the only fix for the problem has been a total transmission replacement. problem continues and no fix because dealership cannot replicate problem. *tr

It is a 2007 jeep wrangler x with a 6 speed manual, there is a loud squealing noise coming from underneath the truck. when in the rpm range of 1500 to 2000 rpms it makes this noise. it is starting to become very annoying because the more i drive the louder it gets. the dealership has replaced the throw out bearing per the tsb that was given. that has not fixed the problem. the dealership said they contacted chrysler and that it would take 30 days to get a field engineer out to look at my problem to come up with a solution for it. so i am still waiting and not very happy with the dealerships outcome. *jb
