The jeep death wobble has been happening to my vehicle since october 2011. i purchased the vehicle in october 2010. it happened once in 2011, i took it into the shop to see what was wrong and they said nothing was wrong with it. in the past two months it has started up again. i live in a remote area in alaska where the nearest city is 100 miles, only reached by highway. each trip i would hit a bump and almost hit the guard rail at 65 mph. i stopped driving it until two weeks ago on my way back home from work (10 miles from home) it happened 3 times in the speed of 35-55. it was completely violent shaking where each time i was not able to control it. it only got worse with braking. the entire vehicle was uncontrollable. i am unable to take it to mechanics shop because it is 100 miles away and i am not putting my family or i at risk of an accident on an alaska highway.

2007 jeep wrangler x death wobble. at around 45000 miles, my jeep front end started to occasionally wobble (sometimes violently) at 50-60mph. the problem has only gotten worse and the vehicle is now unsafe to drive above 45mph due to the wobble that will yank the steering wheel out of your hands and shake the vehicle all over the road. jeep has attempted to fix the vehicle but the problem is still there making the vehicle basically unusable and dangerous. a google search of this problem reveals that it is a major problem with the wrangler and a recall should be issued to fix this very dangerous problem. take a look at this wobble on the wrangler on youtube, or better yet, drive one with this problem and i have no doubt you will agree that this is very dangerous.

Upon driving over an uneven area of pavement (i.e. train tracks, expansion joint, etc.) steering wheel and front wheels shake violently back and forth. first occurrence in march 2009 at 24,575 miles, dealer determined it was the steering dampner, replaced. second occurrence in september 2010 at 27,929 miles, dealer replaced the dampner and updated mounting bracket. third occurrence april 2011 at 33,845 miles (only 5,916 miles on second replacement). dealer refused to do anything because it was over the 12 month part warranty. contacted chrysler complaint resolution, same answer. they stated they contacted the dealer who said they refused repair due to excessive off-road usage. vehicle has not been used off road since the second replacement and the dealer has not seen the vehicle since then.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler 4x4. the contact was driving 60 mph when the front wheels began to shake uncontrollably. the contact stated that the failure would cease once the vehicle was decelerated to 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who adjusted the tire pressure and performed an alignment but to no avail. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was taken to a second dealer who advised that the failure was attributed to a combination of a defect in the steering dampener, tire wear and an alignment. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed ut no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 53,106.

My 2007 jeep wrangler 2 door developed a violent shake when i would hit a bump or go over railroad tracks at speeds around 15 mph to 25 mph. the steering wheel would jerk left and right, almost to the point that i could not maintain control of the steering wheel or the vehicle. i could feel the front wheel shaking back and forth. the only way to stop it would be to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. after a great deal of diagnosing this issue, i removed the front traction bar and noticed that the bolt holes on both the frame and axle brackets that secure the traction bar had become elongated. due to the vehicle being out of warranty, i took it to a welding shop. they advised me that the only way to fix this problem would be to weld a heavy duty washer on both sides of each mounting bracket to secure the mounting bolts. the welding shop also informed me that this would not be a permanent fix, but may last for a while. they also informed my that the metal brackets appeared to be made of weak metal and the bolts are grade 8. they said this explains that the bracket is weaker than the bolt and that is why the brackets gave way. after the washers were welded on the brackets, the shaking has gone and has not returned. i have read on jk-forum.com of many other jeep wranglers that have had this exact same problem. this is a dangerous problem that needs to be investigated.

The power steering pump has failed 4 times. the vehicle is now 21 months old with 19,000 miles. this has become a safety hazard as i was in philadelphia twice when it failed on a weekend and had to travel over 100 miles to get the jeep home. somebody is going to get hurt or cause an accident. if this happened to a women i hate to see what would happen since it makes it very difficult to control the vehicle. *tr

In july of 2008 i experienced what jeep owners are calling the death wobble in my 2007 wrangler. while passing a car i hit a small bump in the road and my whole front end of my jeep began to shake violently and i was unable to control the vehicle. the jeep was brought into the dealership where they replaced the steering damper(covered under warranty). on feb 9th 2009 while driving south on the garden state parkway at approximately 65 to 70 mph i again hit a small bump and the jeep began to shake violently and i could not control the vehicle. i took the vehicle out of gear and came to a slow stop. then i noticed a state trooper behind me. when i finally managed to get to the shoulder he exited his vehicle and approach my drivers side window and asked if i was ok and stated that he never had seen a vehicle ever act like that, that he thought the wheels were going to fall off. the trooper could see that i was visibly shaking and scared. i declined to make a report which i regret doing. at 65-70mph i could not control my vehicle. i call the jeep dealership and scheduled and appointment for my jeep on feb 18th 2009 as that was the earliest time they could get me in. the dealership is going to replace the steering damper again. from what i have read just on the nhtsa web site this is a problem and chrysler corp doesn't seem to want to do anything about it..does someone have to be killed before this auto corp. realizes that this is a major safety issue!!!!! *tr

2007 jeep wrangler 2dr. 4x4..approx mileage 27,000 miles. while driving a relatively low speed (30 -45 mph), the vehicle encounters a bump in the road, or an uneven spot, a violent shaking begins and is uncorrectable until the vehicle is brought to a near complete stop. the dealership calls this the death wobble. this has gone on for approximately 6 months time. the most recent occurrence was the worst, it happened at a higher speed (approx. 50 mph) and resulted in a near collision/rollover. same has been returned to the dealership and is pending. *tr

While driving north at 65mph in the middle lane of a three lane (northbound)freeway, a small bump was encountered and the steering column shook violently until the vehicle was brought to a complete stop, still in the middle lane. the dealer said it was a steering damper problem ( a known technical recall) and a weak damper (part # 02152001) was replaced with a heavy-duty steering damper (part # 52060058ae). the vehicle was returned today and driven without incident. the nature of the problem could have resulted in serious accident/injury but did not. the driver is not aware that jeep has every issued a recall concerning this problem. *tr

Follow up on incident #10225339 wobble in the front end was bad control rod. dealer ordered part to fix it on april 21st and i had an accident on april 22. minor damage to my jeep. reported to chrysler and the refused to repair damage to my jeep which was caused by a faulty part. inspector found no problems with the subject vehicle's steering/suspension system. the jeep dealership repaired the problem 4 days prior to the investigation at my house. contacted chrysler and they said the decision is final that they would make a note the vehicle was repaired prior to the investigation. *tr

When the front passenger side tire hits a bump, gravel, or small amount of water the tire feels like it is bouncing. the vehicle is not able to be steered until the wobble/bouncing stops which is usually when the vehicle is almost stopped. *tr

Approx. 3 weeks after we purchased our new 2007 jeep wrangler we experienced a premature engagement of the esp system under normal driving conditions at a speed of 35mph. this caused the vehicle to swerve due to automatic braking and shut down of throttle. we took the vehicle to chrysler service and they replaced 3 leaking brake calipers. approx. 2 weeks later we experienced the same problem while exiting the interstate at a low speed. we immediately returned the vehicle to chrysler service and they replaced the rear wheel speed sensors. again, 1 week later the same problem occured while exiting the interstate. chrysler service replaced the steering wheel angle sensor. the 4th incident occurred 2 weeks later while pulling out of a parking lot. the service department cannot duplicate or repair the problem. we filed a lemon law claim with chrysler that is currently under settlement. we have been told they will be replacing the vehicle and the paperwork is being processed.
