The jeep death wobble has been happening to my vehicle since october 2011. i purchased the vehicle in october 2010. it happened once in 2011, i took it into the shop to see what was wrong and they said nothing was wrong with it. in the past two months it has started up again. i live in a remote area in alaska where the nearest city is 100 miles, only reached by highway. each trip i would hit a bump and almost hit the guard rail at 65 mph. i stopped driving it until two weeks ago on my way back home from work (10 miles from home) it happened 3 times in the speed of 35-55. it was completely violent shaking where each time i was not able to control it. it only got worse with braking. the entire vehicle was uncontrollable. i am unable to take it to mechanics shop because it is 100 miles away and i am not putting my family or i at risk of an accident on an alaska highway.

I purchased this vehicle used with very low mileage of 16,640 in 2011 confident that the vehicle was safe because of the car fax. there were no incedents reported. i am sure that the previous owner knew of this problem and reported it. what other reason would there be for such low mileage. when we went to the dealership only a month later to report the problem of the frightening wobble when hitting small pothole he smiled and said oh yeah thats the (death wobble). and then he told me that it is not covered under warranty. therefore we are stuck because we could not pass this vehicle on in good concience to anyone and that is over a $20,000 loss to the consumer. i want to know why something that can cause this kind of accident promoting incedent not to be reported to the next purchaser of that particular vehicle or repaired by the dealership before resale. our trip to and from hot springs nc on i81 s and n at speeds of 65-70 mph was a hair raising experience. surrounded by tractor trailers a certain death would have come to anyone who went into a panic. i am outraged and dissappointed by my dealership and the manufacturer of the suspension in this vehicle as the safety testing had to show a problem!!!!! i'm sure they redesigned the stableizing system in the next year of this 2007 jeep wrangler x!!! it is the front stablilizer bar and shock absorbing assembly so do not let them tell you its anything other than that!

Was driving on the interstate when the jeep started shacking like crazy couldnt control it almost casued wreck between two tractor trailers thought it just fell out of gear but then week later it did it again going around a curve and almost went over a very steep hill side to later do research found out that it has been a on going issue called death wobble several things cause it that are defects took it to the dealer ship to find out they have to replace damper bracklet kit, steering damper, damper tire rod, damper bracket nut and a bolt only had the jeep 3 months the dealership had never heard of it which i was told they say that thru the online comments from others who have had same problem i printed out all information so they could see what was going on now there charging me to fix the problem to also find out that the jeep never went thru the service department until i took it back asking when the oil change and tire rotation was do on it there wasnt any records in there system of it being thru there service department so they just put on the lot to sale basically so they changed the oil then and serviced it now im with out a vechical for 5-6 days while they order the parts and fix it ive never had this much trouble out of a vechical paying so much money for it and 3 months in already haveing to fork out money to have it safe and drive able so filleing this complaint to hopeful help others in my situtaion on a safety defect that should be fixed by the company and not the individual befor someone gets killed like i did almost twice befor i knew what was happening.

2007 jeep wrangler x death wobble. at around 45000 miles, my jeep front end started to occasionally wobble (sometimes violently) at 50-60mph. the problem has only gotten worse and the vehicle is now unsafe to drive above 45mph due to the wobble that will yank the steering wheel out of your hands and shake the vehicle all over the road. jeep has attempted to fix the vehicle but the problem is still there making the vehicle basically unusable and dangerous. a google search of this problem reveals that it is a major problem with the wrangler and a recall should be issued to fix this very dangerous problem. take a look at this wobble on the wrangler on youtube, or better yet, drive one with this problem and i have no doubt you will agree that this is very dangerous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler 4x4. the contact was driving 60 mph when the front wheels began to shake uncontrollably. the contact stated that the failure would cease once the vehicle was decelerated to 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who adjusted the tire pressure and performed an alignment but to no avail. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was taken to a second dealer who advised that the failure was attributed to a combination of a defect in the steering dampener, tire wear and an alignment. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed ut no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 53,106.

2007 jeep wrangler 2dr. 4x4..approx mileage 27,000 miles. while driving a relatively low speed (30 -45 mph), the vehicle encounters a bump in the road, or an uneven spot, a violent shaking begins and is uncorrectable until the vehicle is brought to a near complete stop. the dealership calls this the death wobble. this has gone on for approximately 6 months time. the most recent occurrence was the worst, it happened at a higher speed (approx. 50 mph) and resulted in a near collision/rollover. same has been returned to the dealership and is pending. *tr

Driving 2007 jeep wrangler x model on damp day. hitting shallow puddles with right side tires on side of the road at about 55 miles an hour. i have always done this without too much problem. road was flat and straight without potholes. hit puddle and vehicle began shaking violently as if a tire was about to fall off at high speed. extreme medium frequency vibration continued until vehicle was almost at a complete stop. it was repeatable. the second time it happened was on a flat straight well paved road in downtown city street. i was going between 30 and 35 miles per hour and on a dry road and traveled over a railroad track transition (slightly elevated concrete to transition over tracks smoother) this set up another uncontrollable medium frequency vibration in the vehicle that could not be stopped unless the vehicle comes to almost a complete stop. others on www.jk-forum.com have experienced similar situations. dealers are blowing some of us off. it should be mentioned that i always travel with the anti-skit mitigation system off. it appears that a lateral oscillation is starting up in the front end of the jeep steering system. but that is just a guess. i reported it to my dealership and they said (oh yeah, that is the jeep death wobble). it is pretty normal, although they had never heard of it on the new body style. *tr

When using a highway on or off ramp, the electronic stability control program engages suddenly causing a loss of engine power and grinding brakes. this issue normally occurs when the vehicle is on an incline and is well within safe speeds for the given road. this problem occurs even when the electronic stability control program is turned off. *nm

Tl*- the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler, and while driving off the ramp of a highway at 20 mph the brakes would not engage properly. the vehicle started to vibrate ,and the contact heard a loud grinding noise. about 10 times and the majority of the time, it was when the vehicle was on an incline. the contact took vehicle to the dealership, and they stated that there was a problem with the electronic stability program (esp), and that in order for contact to avoid the failure he would have to keep the esp deactivated. the contact stated that when he had the esp deactivated he did not experience the failure. *ak updated *jb
SUSPENSION - FRONT
07/15/201112000
In 208 i purchased a 2007 jeep wrangler, with 11,000 miles, after driving only 1,000. miles my front end starting wobbeling violentley, returned to dealer and they stated my tires needed to be road forced balance, within 3 months while driving to work going about 45mph the truck front end did the know death wobblle, returned to the dealer only to be told my tires were cupped, purchased new tires, sseem to eliviate the problem, only for it to happen several more times and two additional set of tires. i am now drivng on a set of tires that is less than a year old, and haing the same issues, was on the interstate last week driving about 70mph when out of nowhere my front end started to wobble out of control, i did mangage to slow down enough but was shifted into another lane, could not control the steering, was lucky the interstate was not busy, this could of resulted in a major accident. i dont undersand why a recall has not been issued on the suspension, the 2010-2011 jeeps have had one so obviously chrysler is aware there is a problem with the front end suspension. this will be a costly repair,so many different possible solutions but none are a guarantee, seem to me chrysler needs to step up and take responsibility for the faulty design before someone gets killed

Upon driving over an uneven area of pavement (i.e. train tracks, expansion joint, etc.) steering wheel and front wheels shake violently back and forth. first occurrence in march 2009 at 24,575 miles, dealer determined it was the steering dampner, replaced. second occurrence in september 2010 at 27,929 miles, dealer replaced the dampner and updated mounting bracket. third occurrence april 2011 at 33,845 miles (only 5,916 miles on second replacement). dealer refused to do anything because it was over the 12 month part warranty. contacted chrysler complaint resolution, same answer. they stated they contacted the dealer who said they refused repair due to excessive off-road usage. vehicle has not been used off road since the second replacement and the dealer has not seen the vehicle since then.

2007 jeep wrangler 2dr. 4x4..approx mileage 65,000 miles. while driving a speed of 50-55 mph the vehicle encounters a bump in the road, or an uneven spot, a violent shaking begins and is uncorrectable until the vehicle is brought to a near complete stop. the dealership calls this the death wobble. this has gone on for approximately 1 years whenever i hit a bump in the road driving anywhere from 35 mph and over. the most recent occurrence was the worst, it happened at a higher speed (approx. 65 mph) and resulted in a near collision/rollover. this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed by chysler jeep asap. this is a major safety concern and potential loss of life issue.

I own a 2007 jeep wrangler rubicon. it has begun to experience what is known on user forums as a death wobble. when driving at 40mph + speeds, if the tires hit a fairly large bump, the entire front end shakes violently, causing the steering wheel to whip left and right. because of the shaking, shuddering and whipping of the steering wheel, loss of control becomes iminent and sudden braking is the only option left to the driver attempting to regain control of the vehicle. this has occurred several times despite repeated inspections.

I am the second owner of a completely stock 2007 jeep wrangler with about 56,000 miles on it. i have an intermittant problem, commonly referred to as death wobble. this issue can occur for no apparent reason and is related to some sort of harmonic imbalance with the front axle assembly. recommended solutions include replacement of the steering stabilizer, checking for slop in the track bar mounting points, including the bushing on the track bar itself, bad ball joints and finally tire cupping or imbalance. the issue happened while de-accelerating from 70 to 55 m.p.h. and changing from the middle to right-hand lane on westbound i-94 in st. clair shores, mi. in addition to the lane change and de-acceleration, i was also engaged in a sweeping left-hand turn prior to my exit from the freeway at exit 225. this situation is not only unacceptable but unsafe for any driver of this or any other jeep wrangler. i understand the challenges of securing a live axle to a vehicle with the suspension travel that jeep owners expect of their vehicles, but for this to occur on a smooth highway is scary. my wife was in the vehicle, and now flatly refuses to ride or drive in the vehicle, and has forbidden my children to ride in it as well.

My 2007 jeep wrangler 2 door developed a violent shake when i would hit a bump or go over railroad tracks at speeds around 15 mph to 25 mph. the steering wheel would jerk left and right, almost to the point that i could not maintain control of the steering wheel or the vehicle. i could feel the front wheel shaking back and forth. the only way to stop it would be to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. after a great deal of diagnosing this issue, i removed the front traction bar and noticed that the bolt holes on both the frame and axle brackets that secure the traction bar had become elongated. due to the vehicle being out of warranty, i took it to a welding shop. they advised me that the only way to fix this problem would be to weld a heavy duty washer on both sides of each mounting bracket to secure the mounting bolts. the welding shop also informed me that this would not be a permanent fix, but may last for a while. they also informed my that the metal brackets appeared to be made of weak metal and the bolts are grade 8. they said this explains that the bracket is weaker than the bolt and that is why the brackets gave way. after the washers were welded on the brackets, the shaking has gone and has not returned. i have read on jk-forum.com of many other jeep wranglers that have had this exact same problem. this is a dangerous problem that needs to be investigated.

My 2007 jeep wrangler x has experienced what some are calling death wobble. a violent uncontrollable shaking of the front wheels while traveling at speeds above 45mph. when the wheels encounter a bump, even the slightest, in the road, the vehicle shakes violently and will not stop shaking until i come to a complete stop. this is exceedingly dangerous on the interstate and could cause serious collisions. this occurred over 40 times before i could solve the issue. after installing an aftermarket heavy duty front track bar, the wobble ceased to exist. my evaluation: the front track bar that comes standard equipped on the jk-chassis wrangler is not suitable for speeds in excess of 45mph and should be recalled and replaced with a stronger one before serious damage can occur to owners, their vehicles and passengers, and other drivers on the road.

 1) i purchased a 2007 jeep wrangler x with 8,650 miles on the vehicle in 2008, kept the vehicle as it was, and it now has 43,000 miles. there were no events leading up to the failure other than standard safe driving practices. 2) the failure is commonly referred to as death wobble and is well documented on various websites. the death wobble occurs anytime the vehicle reaches 50 mph, and will continue as the speed rises or falls. 3) the problem has not been corrected in my jeep yet, it is being taken in to a private mechanic to be fixed. i have attempted to gain assistance from jeep (to include writing a letter to the president of jeep) with an appalling and insulting response. 3)

Violant shake of the front end of my 2007 jeep wrangler jk rubicon. seems to happen at highway speeds and feels like the entire vehicle is going to fall apart. this is a very dangerous problem and chrystler needs to acknowledge it and put out a fix for this before it kills someone. it is known in the jk community as death wobble very common and needs to be fixed.

2007 jeep wrangler x -- drive down the highway at 50mph, hit a bump and the entire front of the vehicle shakes violently and won't stop until you slow down to about 10mph. this has occurred a number of times. it is on its second visit to the dealer on this issue, i did web searches on the issue and saw numerous comments of the death wobble i firmly believe i experienced what i see on the web. i would return the vehicle and ask for my money back.... this isn't a laughing issue. chrysler must have a permanant fix for such an issue or the public is at risk. *tr

Vehicle: 2007 jeep wrangler 2-door 4x4. the vehicle vibration (front end(?)) has existed since purchased in march 2007 and was reported to the dealership at first service and subsaquent services. at highway speeds the vehicle developes a vibration beginning at 60 mph through 65 mph and ending at 70 mph. the dealership has repeatedly balanced all the tires and states they are within tolerance. in june 2008 the chrysler area representative came and took the vehicle for test drives as well as other like vehicles off the lot. all tested had vibrations at approximately the same speeds. in july 2008 chrysler sent a super tech. who also took the vehicle for a test drive as well as other new like vehicles off the lot and the problem existed in all vehicles. the conclusion by both chrysler representatives is that the vehicle vibration problem that i experance in my 2007 wrangler 2-door 4x4 is in fact inherent to this product line. i purchased this vehicle for the purpose of pulling it four wheels down behind a motorhome and at the 60-65 mph speed range, which is the best ecomomy zone for a motorhome. a problem as i described above occuring at highway speed could adversely affect the handling of the vehicle during periods of limited traction, which could potentially result in an accident endangering the lives of the occupants and others on the roadway. *tr
