I have a 2008 jeep wrangler 4x4. in this month of december 2012 my jeeps headlights, horn, windshield wipers just started turning on for no reason.the engine will stall at speeds and sometimes there is no throttle response. have called my local jeep dealer and chrysler..they told me there was no recall for this.i have searched this on the internet and there are hundreds of complaints about the same problem...as a gather from the complains its due to a faulty tipm. this is a major safety hazard in my view and i would like to have something done about it.you are my only hope. *tr

While driving on the interstate highway at 65 mph the electrical system had a control system failure event (this is the third event in 4 days), causing the windshield washer to spray washer fluid onto the windshield dramatically reducing driver visibility, the windshield wipers did not function properly, they only traveled about one-quart inch in time with the horn chirping. the wipers did not function properly even when turned on directly by the driver to address the washer fluid discharging onto the windshield unexpectedly. the driver exited the freeway to the emergency shoulder to avoid an accident. the electrical failure event and the drivers occluded visibility cause by the unexpected discharge of washer fluid and non-properly functioning windshield wipers lasted for the duration of the unexpected electric control system failure event of about 4 mins.. there was no failure indication on the dash panel and no warning that the failure had occurred to the driver. the event was unexpected and without warning and occurred while the motor vehicle was being operated. service appointment with dealer for the vehicle's electrical control system failures has been scheduled. in my opinion this is a major safety concern that has already or is very likely to result in injury or a fatality. no vehicle system when experiencing any type of failure mode should be able to operate any system on the vehicle in an unsafe and/or unexpected way or really any manner. *tr

Air bag light stays on. cruise control no longer works, horn doesn't work and air bags don't work. dealership says it's a bad clock spring but it wasn't covered under my extended warranty. had to buy and replace component myself. should be recalled for faulty clock spring as many 07-08 jeep jk's are having this problem. it is unsafe to have no airbags and no horn. *tr

While driving on the freeway, the windshield fluid sprays and the wipers go on at slow speed. can't turn wipers or mister off and have to pull over with zero viability. second time this happened, i lost acceleration pedal and jeep stalls and starts while all this is going on. took keys out of ignition and disconnected negative batter but everything still on. pulled fuses for wipers and fluid to stop that. had to pop clutch to stall out the jeep. very dangerous to have happen while in the carpool lane. also to find out that the airbags don't work due to a bad clock spring. *tr

2008 jeep wrangler with 20000 miles. clock spring failed leaving me with a dinging every time i turn the steering wheel. 2007 wranglers have an extended warranty but 2008s do not. sounds like jeep is admitting something is wrong but limiting their damage monetarily by limiting the affected years. anything that has a chance that of making airbags not deploy, which i'm sure there is a law that says vehicles need airbags, not, have airbags that are made with parts that make the airbag not work after 20000 miles. what next? seatbelts that unhook over a certain speed? *tr

Horn does not work when pushing pad on steering wheel. however horn honks at random times while vehicle is in driveway and when driving. dealer investigation shows open circuit on clock spring causing horn to sound when short to ground occurs randomly. *tr

I was at speed, 55mph, when the engine cut off, it also felt like it downshifted, all the dash lights came on, the wipers turned on. i put the car in neutral and tried to restart the engine, no go. i did make it safely to the shoulder from the far left lane through traffic with no power steering. as i came to a stop, the wipers sped up and the horn started blaring. i tried to restart the engine and it did. but everything was still going haywire. i tried to turnoff the engine and it would not cut off, even after removing the key. after about 5 minutes, it all stopped. i restarted and made it to the dealership. wipers and horn going off now and then. pulled into the dealership and the wipers and horn acted up again full blare. service agent walked out, opened the hood and hit the tipm and everything stopped. it appeared he knew exactly what the problem was and didn't seemed surprised at all. i have seen other similar complaints. this is clearly a high-risk safety issue and it doesn't appear to be isolated. i am surprised that there isn't a recall on this item. i am awaiting call for diagnoses of the problem but it seems apparent at this point that it is the tipm.

On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

2008 jeep wrangler 2dr x-model vehicle's clock spring malfunctioned at 66000 miles. airbag light is on and after testing, it was deemed that it it the clock spring which is malfunctioning.

Upon opening the door, the horn and windshield wipers began to operate incessantly and electrical arcing could be heard under the hood. the engine started and i tapped the tipm and everything stopped, including the engine. when i restarted the engine, i had no problems with the horn or wipers, but the check engine light was on. the jeep dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty tipm which will cost around $200 and two hours of labor to install and program. he said there are more than 20 of these modules backordered across the nation and couldn't tell us whether it would be days or weeks until it would be available. when i asked the service manager if the vehicle would be safe to drive, he said that we could lose total control at any time without warning. considering this and the electrical arcing we heard under the hood, i think that this should constitute a safety recall. other jeep owners have reported similar electrical problems at http://www.carcomplaints.com/.

As i went to leave for work and placed the jeep in reverse the horn honked a couple times. after i put it in park to make sure it was ok i reversed again and then the horn started honking, the windshield wipers started going and it started spraying washer fluid. after taking the key out of the ignition this continued for about 10 seconds. the vehicle was fine on the drive to work but once i parked and walked in the door it did the same thing again for about 5 seconds. the next morning i drove it (2 days later) i noticed my heat wouldn't work, tried the a/c, and still nothing. once i was moving i tried again and it was working, but once i stopped at a light it stopped again. i took it to the sealer that afternoon and they suspect the tipm needs replacing but there are 178 on back order. this is concerning since this seems to be a large problem and the forums are covered in stories of the same thing. that night driving home my jeep started honking, spaying washer fluid and wiping while driving. once that stopped my a/c went out again after the dealership said they fixed it because it's charge was apparently low. my heat and a/c have since stopped working most of the time, occasionally will work. last night while driving home my horn, wipers, washer fluid and door locks were all going for about 3, minutes. i had people pulling over out of my way because they thought i was honking at them. i have since unplugged the horn and see this as a hazard. it was dark and spraying washer fluid intermittently for 3 or so minutes was very distracting and keep interfering with my visibility. today my door locks keep clicking as i drive. i have had issues periodically during the day when the i can hear the horn honking when the key is not in the ignition.

As i was leaving for work one morning i hit the key alarm to unlock doors and jeep began honking, windshield wipers turned on and began spraying windshield fluid. i thought it was odd and didn't think much of it. on the way to work in traffic it began doing the same thing and this occurred 3 times in about 30 minutes. after getting to work, the jeep would honk by itself every 2-3 minutes. i decided to take in to the dealership. it continued doing this on the way there. as i was about half a mile from the dealership the jeep completely turned off and i immediately had to pull out of traffic. i was able to start back up but this time all a/c had stopped working. after gutting a call back from dealership, he said the part was on backorder and there was at least a 100 orders waiting to be shipped. this concerns me because it looks to be a widespread thing with the jeeps. in doing some research previous to this email there were problems with the tipm on the 2007 jeep and i'm worried some of these bad ones may have gotten into some of the 2008.

The clock spring in my 2008 jeep wrangler went out in october, 2010. i took the vehicle to the dealership to inquire about getting the part replaced. i thought that since the clock spring is the part responsible for making the airbag deploy in an accident, it was something that should be serviced free of charge, since my airbags were now rendered useless. the dealership told me there was no such policy, so i was forced to purchase a new clock spring out of pocket. the clock spring was approximately $250 in cost. i installed the clock spring myself, and i discarded the old one, thinking i had no use for it anymore.

On two separate occasions my unmodified 2008 jeep wrangler x has given me an audible ding warning and the airbag warning light came on and stayed on while stuck in very slow moving highway traffic (approximately 0-10 mph). both times it was approximately 85-90 degrees f outside and the air conditioning was off. the second time this happened the hot oil warning recall fix had already been performed but i did not receive that warning nor did the temperature gauge rise more than half the width of the needle. on the second occasion the ding and airbag warning light came on repeatedly over a period of a half an hour each time traffic slowed down.

My 2008 jeep wrangler would not start. it turns out that the wcm module failed. the replacement cost me $336.20. i know several other wrangler owners who have experienced the same part failing. including one person where this part failed after only owning the car one week. chrysler/jeep will not acknowledge this as a problem with their vehicles. *tr
