In a letter dated november 3, 2009, chrysler group llc (chrysler), notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall of approximately 161,000 model year (my) 2007 and 2008 jeep wrangler vehicles built with automatic transmissions.chrysler stated that these vehicles were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system and the operation of these vehicles beyond the limits of reasonable usage over a period of time could result in transmission failure and in some cases transmission fluid expulsion.the expelled fluid could come in contact with a hot engine or exhaust component and cause a fire.chrysler will conduct a safety recall to install a hot oil warning message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid temperature condition.an owner's manual addendum stating the purpose of the hot oil message and chime to include caution and warning statements regarding elevated transmission fluid temperature conditions will be provided to owners.based on chrysler's decision to conduct a safety recall this engineering analysis is closed.

Occasionally my transmission violently pops out of first gear when i am moving from a complete stop. i have now made a habit of holding the shift level into 1st gear and sometimes it forces my hand and the shift lever out of gear no matter how hard i am pushing the shift lever.

At 13k miles i was forced to pay for a new clutch. this is my second jeep, so i clearly know how to drive it. at this low mileage this is unbelievable and highly suspicious. just outside of warranty. jeep refused to even discuss the matter. when i returned a call in their findings i was repeatedly read the e-mail i sent and nothing was explained. my dealership told me not to worry about the loaner over the weekend, then tried to force me to pay for it. the clutch exploded on a busy highway during morning rush hour. *tr

Wrangelr rubicon 2 dr stalling at interstate / highway speed, started doing this at approx 10,000 miles. started doing this 152 miles in to a 320 mile trip and did this numerous times between 10,000 and 10,090 miles were i had to pull over on the interstate as the vehicle engine quit completely or sometimes you could pump the gas and the engine would come back to life, but not often. filled up with gas at 10,090, thought maybe i had gotten bad gas however it happened again approx 68 miles into the new full tank of gas and continued happening at highway speed were i would have to pull over and it would die. jeep restarted everytime, sometimes it would take numerous times to restart. this situation is very dangerous. i limped to my destination only to discover that most chyrsler/jeep dealer service departments are closed on saturdays so looks like i am stuck until monday to get it to a dealer in a different state from where i live. can't believe it. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler 2-dr 4x4. while driving at approximately 5 mph up a very steep incline on a gravel road the hot oil light illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle stopped accelerating. the engine continued to rev but the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was shifted into neutral for approximately 5 minutes and the hot oil light turned off. he was then able to operate the vehicle as normal. the weather was described as very hot during the failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed the transmission fluid can heat up and he was advised to install a cooler. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 35,900. sm.

My 2008 jeep wrangler was recalled due to overheating fluid in the automatic transmissions. the solution provided by jeep is to add a warning light/chime to alert the driver of high transmission fluid temperature. since the overheated oil can overflow from the transmission and ignite potentially causing catastrophic fire, i do not feel the problem has been addressed properly. the appropriate fix for the problem is to install an auxiliary cooler for the transmission fluid. such a cooler could prevent the overheating of the transmission fluid and, thereby, prevent damage to the transmission or possible fires. the recall fix by jeep has not repaired the problem and does not remedy this dangerous defect in the vehicle.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that his transmission over heated and the fluid leaked on the exhaust which caused a fire to occur. the failure caused the plastic fuel lines to melt which caused the fire to spread under the engine compartment destroying the entire vehicle. there were no injuries. the manufacturer stated 22 days ago that a representative would inspect the vehicle; however, he has not received a call. a police/fire report is available if needed. the failure mileage was 28,000.

I purchased a new 2008 jeep wrangler sahara edition in april of 2008. since november of 2008 i have had several issues with the jeep which are widely reported on the internet. the first issue was the transmission would pop out of first gear when it was cold or rainy. i immediately took it back to the dealer but they would not fix it because they couldn't get the problem to reoccur. it took chrysler 1 year before they acknowledged the problem. so in the spring of 2010 they installed a gear rebuild kit. meanwhile i was driving an unsafe vehicle for an entire year. the mechanic informed me that this was a temporary fix and that the problem would likely occur again. sure enough just six months ago the transmission started to pop out of first gear. now i am battling to try and get the dealer to fix it again. the second issue which just occurred last week and earlier today is what the internet refers to as the death wobble. once i get above 55mph and i hit a pot hole the jeep wobbles uncontrollably until i completely stop. according to most forums the dealership also gives customers a very hard time about fixing this issue as well. i will attempt to contact the dealer tomorrow about the death wobble. this jeep wrangler 07-10 has some serious issues which need to be address immediately. chrysler needs to issue recalls before someone gets seriously hurt. this is my third jeep wrangler, my first new wrangler, and i am very disappointed in it.

2008 jeep wrangler 6 speed manual transmission that pops out of first gear. started popping out in september of 10' when i was starting to drive after stopping for a red light and went to turn left and it popped out of first with a loud bang, its happened almost every time i drive my car multiple times to the point where i am scared to drive it. i had it looked at multiple times at my dealership and they said they couldn't find the problem, finally in january of 2011 when i told them about the 1000 or other complaints i had read the re-looked at the vehicle and they put in a new shifter boot, the day i picked the car up from the dealership it started jumping out of gear again, my car has no been in the shop for 3 weeks. they are putting in a rebuilt transmission.

Stock jeep 2008 wrangler x 29,000 miles has j.o.g. violently jumps out of gear when accelerating in first gear. swear you were rear ended by a car the first time it happens. expect to find the whole transmission is laying on the street. jeep claims is a soft boot problem and then if that doesn't fix it they replace the whole transmission. the condition is very dangerous trying to make a yielding turn on green. i have narrowly avoided getting t-boned when i had transmission failure in the middle of a 5 lane road. have almost been rear ended several time at a green light because it will accelerate normally for a second and then violently pop out of gear bringing the jeep to a halt. gear shift popped out and jammed my middle finger on my hand so bad it still hurts 3 weeks later. started happening after my death wobble experience at 29000 miles. looking around this is a problem with 6 speed manual since the new model came out in 2007. engineering flaw. tranny should never pop out of gear under load unless there is a transmission failure. jeep claims the tranny is fine and install a new soft boot. thanks jeep/chrysler. *tr

From the time i bought the car, when i would put it into 1st gear, it would pop out of gear once i applied the gas. this would happen daily. i told my dealer about this and because they could not duplicate the problem, they were unable to do anything about it. finally, almost 2 years later, i was on the freeway and the whole gear shifter came out and i was unable to put the car into neutral, almost getting into an accident. i then had the car towed to the nearest dealer where they replaced the gear shifter and told me that the part that held it together was broken and that must have been the reason why it would pop out of gear, because it was never able to be locked in properly. they still can not open up the insides to see if there is anything else wrong unless the problem happens again and they are able to witness it. so basically, i have to be put in a situation where this can happen again in order for them to maybe witness it, or i can get into a terrible accident, something i narrowly escaped last time. they can not open anything up because they will not get reimbursed unless they are certain something is wrong, then they will go to the source and investigate, when they know they will get paid for it. *tr

2008 jeep wrangler manual transmission while driving the vehicle it will jump out of gear jeep was bought new and has been back to dealers vann dodge nj 3 times still not corrected and the vehicle is still there. 1st time they said the shift boot needed to be trimmed, 2nd time they said it was because it was cold out and that jeeps do this, now it is there for the 3rd time and they say they when they drive it, it still has not jumped out of gear. jeep alsohas been leaking transmission fluid and power steering fluid that has been there 2 times to be fixed. still a problem. jeep was bought brand new and has had the same problems since the day i bought it. bought vehicle brand new so i would not have any problems. will contact lemon law something is wrong with the vehicle and i feel the dealer just does not want to fix the problem getting the run around. i spent alot of money on this vehicle and feel i got stuck. *tr

I have had multiple occurrences where the vehicle will stall at 50-60mph. all of sudden i just lose power and my sensor lights come on in the dash. i have to attempt to pull over without any steering and turn the vehicle off and turn it back on, this usually works but recently this happened and when i went to start the vehicle the check engine light stayed on and it did the same thing after driving about 100 more feet and would die out after about 3 attempts and i could not get the vehicle started, i let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it restarted and i drove it approximately 12 miles with the check engine light on, without any problems before driving it into the shop. it has now been into the shop twice for the problem, it has happened more times than i have taken it into be fixed because i was told to keep driving it until it happened again. after the first time of being apparently fixed it a few days after it was fixed and they ran a test on it and said it should be fine and to keep driving it. it then did it about 3 weeks later and i brought it into the shop again, this s when the check engine light stayed on. *tr
