In its july 29, 2011 response to odi's may 27, 2011 information request letter, chrysler provided 153 my 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 odi vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (abl) due to a faulty clockspring (cs) wiring circuit.the right hand drive (rhd) vehicles, which were first produced in my 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).the my2007 left hand drive (lhd) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 lhd reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the my 2008 lhd vehicles.odi did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the cs circuit failure.since may 27, 2011, odi has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing.in addition, and for comparative purposes, chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the my2006 and my2009-2010 wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the rhd subject vehicles. chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of rhd wrangler cs failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by us postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature cs failure.chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated my2007 lhd rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design cs.the new design cs incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system).on november 1, 2011, chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all my 2008-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles (11v528).the estimated 5,334 rhd wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 my 2008 rhd wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 my 2009-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles that chrysler determined potentially have a similar cs concern as the my 2008 rhd vehicles.chrysler intends to replace the existing cs with a yet-to-be-produced improved cs assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.owner notice is scheduled to begin in november, 2011.chrysler also informed odi that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for my2007 lhd wrangler which will extend the cs warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.accordingly the investigation is closed.

Airbag light turns on. air bag won't deploy if the light is on. the clockspring is bad.

The drivers airbag in my rhd 2008 jeep wrangler has been on for the last 7k miles, took it in and they said clockspring, after researching this is a very common issue with this later model jeep wrangler

2008 jeep wrangler x right hand drive- air bag warning light is on, which means air bag is not functioning. warranty expired, since i use it to deliver the mail. and extended warranty was not available.

Airbag light going on and off, now mostly stays on. my mechanic ran diagnostics and has three or four very pricey possible solutions; he is referring me to dealer who charges $89.99 just to hook up to their computer. finding a lot of the same complaints from 2008 jeep wrangler rhd owners.

The horn stopped working and then the airbag light appeared. in my case the failure of horn and airbag occurs always and i feel that this is a safety issue that could lead to death in the event of an accident. at this time i have not had the issue fixed but the dealer estimates $500 to replace the clock spring which should fix the issue. this seams so be a recurring issue with this model of jeep as i have seen that many of the rhd jeeps from this year are having the same issues.

Air bag warning light would turn on and off randomly. finally it would not turn off.

The airbag light came on intermittenly for a period of apprx. 10 days then stayed on constantly. when the air bag light is on the airbags are not functioning.the jeep dealer says it is a problem with a clock spring sensor in the steering wheel. the jeep is not covered by warranty and the mechanic told me it is an ongoing problem that would most likely reoccur. i would have to pay to fix the jeep and pay again when the part went bad again. i have been in contact with many other 2008 jeep wrangler owners who are experiencing the same problem.

Clock spring failure at 35000 replaced under warranty, failed again at 45000. the dealer wants $370 to replace it again. the air bags will not work now. i cannot afford to fix it every 10000 miles

My rhd jeep wrangler has experienced a failure in the passenger restraint system. the air bag warning light came on randomly. the dealership repaired the problem by replacing the clock spring in the steering column. looking into it further on various online forums, i have found this is a common problem for jeeps. unfortunately, when the light is on, the system is non-functional and leaves the passengers without the benefit of the air bags. *tr
AIR BAGS - FRONTAL

2008 rhd jeep wrangler air bag light is on meaning airbag will not deploy if an accident occurs. clock spring/corrosion issue causing horn not to work which is a safety hazard. many mail carriers are having the exact same problems with these vehicles. vehicle will not always start. this whole vehicle should be recalled as it has major electrical issues. the motor went out on mine at 52,000 miles. the warranty is only for 36,000 miles. the motor was rebuilt by a jeep dealer and i was told it had a spun bearing. the air blower controller also does not work half of the time. these rhd jeeps are all lemons and pose safety hazards to mail carriers who spend most of their day out on the road. the horn issue is a threat to the public as you cannot warn an unsuspecting driver or pedestrian of your precese. the airbag issue is a threat to the driver. you spend $25,000 on a vehicle, you expect better.

Corrosion to clock spring in steering column resulting in horn failure to sound hard top roof leaks like a sieve in rain resulting necessitating my removing the carpet and leaving drain plugs open-now the emergency brake is rusty from damp interior won't start in park-only starts if shifter shoved into neutral or shoved forward while turning key door hinge pins rusty flat tire light stays on air bag light periodically on, which means air bag is not functional at those times
