On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.

My jeep wrangler stalled one day and never would restart due to what the dealer later discovered is the malfunction of the totally integrated power module which apparently is a wide spread issue with jeeps. my vehicle has been in the dealers shop in oak ridge tn for more than a month now and they are unable to get the part from the manufacture due to what they say is a back order which seems to be getting pushed back further and further on the release date as they have stated. this part has been documented as faulty and a recall for a software reprogram dating back to 2007 was issued for multiple malfunctions of this part and i as a consumer think the public should know that jeep is incapable of producing and supplying this part in a timely manner and therefore its likely many are still driving a vehicle that is not only prone to have a stalling condition but in many cases it will be diagnosed as needing a parts replacement for various tipm problems including complete failure. it should be the responsibility of the nhtsa to investigate daimler chrysler and their poor practices of recognizing faulty conditions and the failure to replace or act on faulty components that impact safety and drivability of their vehicles.

6 months prior, vehicle would randomly not start. noticed corrosion on battery, cleaned and replaced connection parts. it worked fine until today. power locks went out. checked fuse, was blown. noticed more corrosion on battery on opposite side this time. tried replacing fuse and it blew as we were replacing it (sparks coming out of connection, melting a prong). cleaned off battery corrosion and got absolutely no power to the vehicle when tried to start it. cleaned in between battery/wire connections and when reassembling the horn, wipers, coolant fan, and lights would randomly go on & off. vehicle would randomly have power to start, then would not work again. ended up towing it to dealer, without power. currently waiting for diagnosis.

I was driving at 55mph and ran over a badly maintained road bump (a 3ft section of pavement spanning both lanes of a 2 lane rd. that had no stone in it to level it off) and my 2007 jeep 4dr wrangler unlimited sahara lost engine power. all power options in turn lost power. i managed to pull the jeep to the side of the road. i turned the key off and attempted to restart it. it started back up with no futher incident. this same power loss occured once before after driving on a wet road on a rainy day. that 2nd occurance lasted about 1second and then re-powered.

I drive a 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited 4-door. the very first week i bought the car (march, 2007) i was driving on the highway and the radio shut off, the dashboard powered off and the jeep seemed to lose power for about 2-3 seconds and then it came back on again. i pulled over, called the dealer, and they said a recall has been identified and i should be receiving it shortly. wrong! the recall was for the brakes. since 2007, the radio/dashboard has been cutting in and out about 10 times a year. everytime i take it to the dealer, they say nothing is wrong with it. *tr

 1. at night on january 17, 2008 at 10:30 in the evening, my family an i were driving approximately 45 mph down a us highway in our 2007 jeep jk wrangler 4-door. 2. without warning of any type, all of the jeep's power shut off - headlights, engine, dash lights, everything electrical shut off. the vehicle's power came back on in approximately 2-3 seconds. upon the electrical power returning on, all of the dashes warning lights flashed on for a few seconds. the dash warning lights for the esp, traction control and mil (malfunction indicator light) remained on until i drove home (about 2 miles). 3. when home, i attempted to restart the car to see if the error warning lights would remain in - the mil was the only light that remained on. i will call the dealership tomorrow for diagnostic troubleshooting. however, this was an extremely frightening experience since it was snowing and i lost power without warning on an ice covered road. i checked the jeep website with my vin number, and according to the website there are no recalls outstanding for my vehicle. *tr

Occasional, apparent vehicle master computer reset occurs during normal driving. results in momentary stalling. this has happened about 5 times since i bought the car (in 2007). i have read that this known issue and the vendors claims to have issued software patches to resolve the problem. the patches have been applied to my vehicle but the problem still remains. i have had the car to several dealers for repair - they did not find anything they could fix and did not recommend replacing the computer. i want this problem on record in case a crash does at some point occur. *tr

2007 wrangler jk electronic throttle control warning illuminates followed by power loss while driving including complete engine shut-down in traffic. dealer replaced electronic throttle control...problem came back - dealer #2 now replacing e.t.c. wiring harness. according to bloggers problem is common and widespread. also learned chrysler had a july 2007 recall of 80,000 vehicles which i was never informed of or recalled. i'm afraid on the highway at 55mph the engine will shut down and i will be hit from behind by an 18-wheeler. i live near and drive on i-95 just outside nyc, one of the heaviest traffic areas in the usa. i need help/resolution!!! *tr

I have a 2007 jeep wrangler 4 dr x unlimited 4wd. i saw the recall notice for the vehicles stalling manufactured before jan 2007. my vehicle was manufactured i believe in may of 2007 and the stall has happened twice. radio goes off, engine died and all lights on the dash came on and appeared to reset. it's a manual transmission and the engine restarted because i was moving and still in gear. it only lasts about 2 seconds but during the time it is doing this the power steering is not functional.(i only know this because i was on a curved freeway on ramp during one of the times it did this.) i am only filing this complaint because it appears the recall (g25 i believe) does not seem to cover the full range of dates for affected vehicles as mine was manufactured in may of 2007. *tr

When driving my 2007 jeep, it has 2x, completely shut off while going about 70 mph in traffic. i took it to bondy's jeep dothan, looked at by service depart. and given back - nothing wrong. the second time, returned to bondy's, some wiring harnesses were replaced. then recall was issued, took it back-they fixed recall. continued to have issues, been to bondy's eight times. it has not shut completely off again that was pretty scary - but the dashboard lights up with errors and i lose power everything (air conditioner, signals, radio, entire control panel, etc?). the same thing happened when it shut off completely, so my concern is that it will happen again. if i were to pull out onto a highway, that could be it. please advise me on what action i need to take. following is a timeline of what has been going on. i have not been able to get anyone from jeep to call me to help me with this issue. i have only been working third party with my local jeep dealer, who has been great, but has not yet solved any issues. 4/14/2007 jeep cuts completely off while going 70 mph on hwy 431 all cluster lights lit up. 4/15/2007 jeep cuts off completely again pulling out of the grocery store parking lot. 4/17/2007 took it to bondy's. got it back on 4/19/2007. service dept stated it was fixed. 4/26/2007 all clusters lit up like before but did not shut off. no air conditioner, radio, nothing electric worked. took to bondy's. 7/11/2007 same thing 7/12/2007 recall received by mail, took to bondy's. 8/2/2007 it happened again. 8/3/2007 took to bondy's left it with the service dept. do not have it back yet. it has been at bondy's 39 days total since time of purchase, in the service dept. *tr

On four occasions since purchasing the vehicle, while driving at highway speeds, the engine has stalled and all of the electrical components lost power for about 1.5 to 2 seconds. everything then returned to normal operation. when this occurs, all of the dash lights come on as though the ignition key was in the on position, as it is just before starting the car, then all returned to normal. this is a frightening experience at highway speeds. should a driver be in the midst of an emergency maneuver during one of these occurrences, a serious accident can happen. this first happened in december , and the dealer where the vehicle was purchased replaced the ignition switch, but this has happened three additional times, the last being the date listed on this complaint. the service department at the dealership has been notified and the service representative has informed me that he noted all four reported incidents in the computer system. *ak

2007 jeep wrangler sahara stalled unexpectedly on two occasions while driving at low speed. the first time in early march 2007 it was pouring rain and i went through a big puddle which sent water under the vehicle. the car cut off and all the dash light lit up, and the seat belt went off. the car started back up in about 2 seconds by itself. i have assumed the water shorted out for a few seconds and thought nothing else of it. the second time it happened was on june 10, 2007. we were slowing down at stop light and it just cut out. the dash lights came on , the anti-skid light and another red light) i though the car behind us rear ended us because there was a little jerk , rear tires locked. we had to restart to car. it started right up and we continued on. i haven't been to the dealer yet. i was researching the problem on the internet and saw there had been 53 reports of the same thing happening so i figured i should report it also. *ak

Driving to work, automatic, and the engine stalled all dash lights came on, radio went out along with power brakes and steering. it felt like it was in neutral but i was in drive. it lasted about 2 seconds them restarted itself and was normal for the rest of the day. this could of been a huge problem if i were on a steep hill (up or down) or in heavy traffic. there seems to be a lot of people having this problem, if you want to see more go to any jeep jk unlimited 4 door forum and do a search for the stall bug. *jb

I was driving at a speed of 70 mph on the interstate when the car lost all electrical power. the loss of power lasted only a few seconds and then powered back up. the engine also stopped during this time. it was extremely alarming and could have resulted in a serious accident. i took the car to the dealer and they said that they have had other owners with this problem. i am unsure what they did to correct the issue. *jb

Twice during the first 7400 miles the 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited shut off while driving. incident #1 - i was slowing down to turn into driveway when the engine and electronics in the vehicle turned off for 1-2 seconds. when electrical power was restored all of the indicator lights on the dashboard illuminated as if i had just turned the key to the on position. the dealer said that they could not duplicate the problem, so no fix was attempted. incident # 2 - my wife was stopped at a traffic light when the vehicle turned off and stayed off. she attempted to restart the vehicle, but could not since the transmission was still in drive. she had to shift into park in order to restart the vehicle. we took the vehicle to the dealer for service the following morning and were once again told that they could not duplicate the problem, so no fix was attempted. the vehicle has been to the dealer twice for this problem, and i have lost 3 days of vehicle service because of this problem. chrysler says that the dealer must investigate and fix the problem, but all the dealer wants to do is claim that there is no problem because no trouble codes are stored in the computer and they can't duplicate the problem. in the meantime my wife and i are driving a vehicle that we feel is unsafe due to the risk of losing control of the vehicle during one of these incidents. *ak

My vehicle has stalled on me 2 times. i have an automatic transmission on a 2007 4wd jeep wrangler jk. the first time, i was stopped at a stop sign, and then started to travel forward, then all the light on the dash board lit up, the radio when dead, and i lost the power steering. i tried to go to the side of the road, and within 2 seconds, it started driving normal again. the second time, i was in a parking lot, i parked in a spot. i sat there for 2 minutes, then placed the vehicle in reverse. i completely stopped the vehicle, placed the shift knob into drive (d), and proceeded to take my foot off the break to press the gas. then all of the light on the dash came on again, the radio went off, and i lost the steering and brakes. the vehicle proceeded to roll back into a post, then it went forward. the decline of the spot is no more than 5 degrees. there was damage done to my vehicle, so the next day i took my jeep into the dealer, and they told me that they were not able to reproduce the problem, so i was on my own. *jb

When coasting to a stop, going uphill on a highway, the brake pedal locks-up when you put your foot on the brake. after a few seconds, it releases and brakes normally. this has happened 3 times at the same intersection (may 2007, august 2007, sept. 2007). all three times resulted in near-miss accidents. the vehicle was in for repair for this problem, but the dealer could not replicate it. even though he could not replicate the problem, the service manager advised us to get rid of the car because it was an obvious safety issue. on 9/14, while the car was still at the dealer, chrysler announced a recall for this incident and advised customers that had experienced this problem to take the car to the dealer immediately. ours has now been there for 6 weeks, with no end in sight. we have also had the engine stall when traveling on a twisty road near our residence. this has happened 1 time. this problem has occurred in the same model as ours, but was believed to have been addressed before ours was built. however, we still have the problem and no solution from chrysler. *jb

On two separate occasions i was driving less than 10 mph and coming to a stop when the engine stalled for no apparent reason. i was aware of this potential hazard due to my research on jk-forum.com where other 2007 jeep wrangler owners have experienced similar problems to mine. i experienced the engine stalling issue around 3700 miles and a second time at approximately 7500 miles. no check engine light comes on, i just shift into neutral and restart the vehicle and continue to drive. however i cannot replicate this stall condition and i'm nervous about it happening at higher speeds. *ak

I had no previous problems with the vehicle stalling. the vehicle was running with no noticable difference the day of the incident. i was pulling off from a traffic light and i felt the power from the engine cut out. i looked at my instruments and the tach dropped to zero and all the instrument lights went out. no more than one to two full seconds later all of the instrument lights came on and went through the normal sequence like the vehicle was just started. the engine came back to life and the vehicle ran as though there was no problem. i took the vehicle to the dealer and they said it did not store a code in the computer and they could not replicate the prblem. i have had no other failures. i don't remember the exact date of the failure, but i am sure i have a copy of the service record in my glove box from when i took it to the dealer. i will be happy to cooperate with any investigation and provide the documentation if needed.

My jeep has died on me 3 times:1) in jan 07; 2 mos after i bought it-while in transit on the freeway @ 70mph all power was lost, engine shut down, lasted about 5 sec. it came back on-on its own while still moving. 2) 03/07 while in transit, @ 10mph shut down, had to put it in park and restart it. 3) may 07- while aproaching a red light, it shut down, had to put it in park and restart it. every single time its ocurred i have taken it in the the service dept and they are unable to find the malfunction. the third instance, they installed an autopilot- to record the malfunction, but on ly let me keep it for 1 1/2 weeks because the service department only has 1 in the whole shop, and they cannot spare me the autopilot for the length of time that it might take for the issue to reocurr, of course nothing happened. i believe that this customer service is a joke, & feel it is a major hazard, to continue to drive around like this, i fear that it may stall while on the freeway and get hit by another traveling vehicle. another issue is the ignition/starter, it seems to randomly get stuck- and sounds as though i am still turning the key when my hand is not even touching it. i am frustraded with this lemon and would like to know who else is having the same issues- because i am not getting any solutions from the service department & manufacturer.

My family and i were driving up an off road trail out of telluride, colorado, when the jeep suddenly lost all power, many dash lights illuminated the vehicle acted like the engine shut off. the engine, however, was still idling at approximately 1000 rpm's, however when the gas pedal was pressed, the rpm's would not rise, the engine's rpms would not audibly increase and no power was transferred to the wheels. this caused the jeep to cease any forward movement and force me to roll backward to a small pull out on the single lane, mountain-side road. i put the transmission in park, shut off the engine with the keyed ignition, waited approximately 2 mintutes and restarted the jeep. upon restart, the jeep regained all normal function, all of the dash lights which had been previously illuminated (minus the transmission light) had shut off. the jeep was turned around eventually and driven back down the mountain. had this failure happened on a different pass--one much steeper and with no cutouts such as black bear pass (which is nearby and where were heading), this failure could have been fatal. it is this author's opinion this stall bug, at least on my vehicle, is attributed to the transfer case and/or transmission heating up. this is attributed to these facts: a smell was noticed just a short time before the engine quit. the transfer case was in 4hi (four wheel drive - high range) prior to the engine quitting. after the engine stalled, the transfer case was put in 4lo (four wheel drive - low range) and the problems ceased. since this stall, all off road excursions have been in 4lo and the stall bug has not re-appeared, despite the fact that steeper hills in more inhospitable terrain in the same weather have been driven over with no repeat of the stall bug. further, the distinct smell which was noticed just prior to the stall bug occuring has not been noticed since then (when utilizing 4lo). *tr

The 2007 4 door jeep wrangler died at a light after i had it about one month. throughout my ownership the starter or ignition , i didn't know which, stuck when trying to start it periodically. the biggest concern was that last weekend while driving on the interstate at about 70 mph the engine got really loud for a minute and then all of the dashboard lights flew on. i believed that the engine had started to stall but then caught. i took vehicle to the dealership, and they couldn't recreate the problem, ran diagnostics, and then searched the jeep database and found nothing. if you investigated the internet there were dozens of people who were having the same problems. two people ny and minnesota contacted me and said that the problem was the throttle control. one of them stated that his dealership had called the jeep help line and got it fixed. therefore, i knew that it should be in their database - but it wasn't showing when searched as being done by dealerships. i was scared that one of these times while i was on the interstate the engine was going to die and steering will go out. on the jeep websites, numerous people have actually had to restart their engines while driving.*ak

I started my car and attempted to pull out of the driveway when the engine light turned on and the car began to shake. i stopped the car, kept the engine on and let it sit for a 5 minutes and warm up. i put it in drive again and made it 1 block when the engine light started blinking, the engine began to sputter, and smoke was seen coming out of the muffler and hood of my jeep. i opened the hood only to be consumed with the smell a gas. when the tow truck driver arrived, he explained that i was very lucky as the car engine would have caught on fire if i would have continued to drive one more block. the dealership initially thought it was the fuel igniter, as it was found stuck open. they ended up replacing the wiring for the electrical system that controlled the igniter instead. so far it's running fine. *tr
