| On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall. | ||||||

| My 2007 jeep was in the shop for various repairs, however this one took the cake! i arrived home from work (6milesaway) when i noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. i found it was overheating, no indicator light to warn me, temperature gauge was at normal but the smell of anti-freeze was present. towed it to the dealer and found the heater hose assembly, to be melted through from the bad design, of having it too close to the engine. also it appeared to have two slices in the hoses , where the clamps were too close to the bend in the hoses. it cost me over $100.00 to have it fixed. | |||

| Engine stalls while driving at any speed. the computer module has been reprogrammed but the problem still exists. after the engine stalls, many of the dash lights illuminate including, but not limited to, the esp/bas, brake, oil, battery, ignition, engine, airbag lights. the vehicle will start once the computer has reset and the warning lights dim. i've been to two different dealers three separate times since the problem began with no result. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler x rhd 4x4. the contact stated that the roof of the vehicle is leaking. he also stated that the engine has stalled numerous times, most recently while accelerating to 15 mph from a stop. the engine completely shuts off during this failure. the contact stated that the starter remains engaged as well. the current mileage is 11,000 and failure mileage was 400. | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler x rhd 4x4. while driving 35 mph under normal driving conditions, the vehicle's engine stalled and shut off without warning. on another occasion, when the contact attempted to accelerate, the engine stalled and shut completely off. while driving 10 mph and attempting to brake, the same failure recurred at 2,100 miles. the engine was able to be restarted each time. the vehicle is currently at the dealer. the engine size was unavailable. the current mileage is 28,000 and failure mileage was 2,000. | |||

| The 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited x, otherwise known as the jk, lost engine power twice while driving 55 mph, and the electrical and engine shut off for 3-5 seconds and came back on. the electronic throttle for the gas pedal went into the default mode, where it won't go over 45 mph ,and the traction control shut off at this time also. this happened while driving at 55-60 mph. also, the compass shut off also at a different time. each time i had to pull off the road and restart the jeep , and every thing worked again. *ak | |||

| Vehicle loses power to accelerator at random, unpredictable times (could be at a stop sign, could be while traveling on a highway, and does not matter if car is hot or cold). warning light (lightning bolt) flashes on the dashboard, and accelerator is sluggish to respond or unresponsive altogether. i have nearly been in two accidents while pulling into traffic because cars starts to go, but then loses power and the accelerator takes about 3-4 seconds to recognize i am stepping on it. i have had it into chrysler dealership three times now, and they are unable to diagnose the issue. first time the accelerator pedal assembly was replaced. the second time, the pcm module (drivetrain computer/module) was replaced in its entirety. problem started occurring around 30,000 miles, and has continued since (now at 41,500). has nearly caused me to be in two bad accidents, which caused other cars to swerve/skid around me because i was stopped broadside in roadway. they would not acknowledge problem until they made me drive them around our city, and prove to them what happens. luckily it happened while he was in the car with me, but the service techs are unable to diagnose the problem and continue to work with chrysler engineers to no avail. other instances include being stopped at a red light on a hill, and not being able to go forward in time, and nearly drifting backwards into vehicles behind me. this requires use of heavy foot on gas and emergency brake. additionally, vehicle is a 6 speed manual, and sometimes 'pops' out of first gear while starting from a stop position. this issue has happened for the last 5,000 miles approximately but is becoming more common (nearly daily). i believe they will be able to diagnose this issue and correct it (common problem according to my internet research), however it does not appear they have a handle on the first issue. i have been told to leave my vehicle at the dealership until they can diagnose and fix the problem, it's not safe | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler x rhd 4x4. while driving 70 mph, the warning lights illuminated and the vehicle lost all power. the engine seized momentarily, but then began to operate a few seconds later. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. the contact stated that the esp and bas lights illuminated when turning the vehicle and would not disappear until the engine was shut off. the contact also stated that the retractable roof leaked when it rained. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 12,400 and failure mileage was 8,700. the consumer stated the lights have not come back on for the past month and a half. updated 12/12/07 | |||
