Defect Summary	Paccar is recalling 4,883 my 2006-2009 kenworth t600, t660, t800, w900, t2000 and my 2008-2009 peterbilt 365, 367, 379, 384, 386, 387, 388 and 389 trucks. inadequate stiffness of the diesel particulate filter (dpf) bracket could result in separation of the dpf from the chassis.
Consequence Summary	A vehicle crash could occur if another vehicle strikes the dpf on the roadway.
Corrective Summary	Paccar is working with caterpillar to repair these vehicles (please see 08e041). owners may contact caterpillar at 1-800-447-4986 or kenworth at 1-425-828-5440 or peterbilt at 1-940-591-4196.

	During the pe odi learned that the subject vehicles are being disabled when the horton fan hub fails, due to the fan striking the radiator.apparently, warning signs of the impending failure are not always sufficient to give the driver time to pull off the highway.thus, when the failure occcurs, in some cases the vehicle is stranded and must be towed. odi has examined data which indicates that class vii and viii trucks are over represented in crashes when stranded on the highway or shoulder, as contrasted to light vehicles.further, crashes involving disabled heavy trucks being struck by light vehicles are more likely to have serious consequences. nhtsa has upgraded pe09-002 to an ea to further investigate this matter.odi will examine the warning symptoms and assess the risk of a crash in the event of a breakdown on the highway.

	Tl*the contact owns a 2007 kenworth w900. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle would shake and vibrate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the water pump failed; however, they could not determine the cause of the failure. the engine size, number of cylinders, and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage was 105,516 and failure mileage was 105,467.

	Tl*the contact owns a 2007 kenworth w900. while driving 50 mph, the contact heard a loud cracking noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. she examined the vehicle and noticed that the radiator fan failed. the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. a local mechanic serviced the vehicle. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current mileage was 103,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
