 Vehicle pulls to the right while driving, aligned 4 times, pulling caused tires to be replaced twice due to wear on the outside of the tires. brakes and rotors have been replaced twice, leaking boot axle replaced once. dealer has been contacted. *ak *ml

 The brake rotors warped after the car was 6 months old causing brake pad damage. the weather stripping fell off 2 times and has been replaced, but is beginning to fall off again. the lid on the console broke a few miles from the dealership.it has been replaced, but still does not fit right. the power steering hose needed to be replaced after 4 months. the paint is peeling on the bumber and the slightest touch scratches the paint. the dealership has always repaired the problems under warranty. however i continue to have problems(i have to take it in this month). my warranty is running out and i am worried i have a lemon.

 1999 sephia brakes, transmission were replaced. consumer feels that the exhaust should be recalled. *ts the technician determine that there was a split in the centerpipe of the exhaust which caused it to be loud. the part is a piece of flexible housing. the part could not be purchased separately but the consumer had to purchase the entire pipe. the part was replaced but split again three more times. *nm since the vehicle was purchased the brakes have been replaced, the transmission has been replaced and gas leakage problem has been repaired.

 Kia sepia 1999 sound coming from rear brakes. *bf three of the four brake pads had fallen off of the shoes. the pads were in excellent condition but the glue that held them to the shoes had disintegrated. *nm

 The vehicle had numerous recalls and problems. when the consumer put fuel in the vehicle it leaked out. when it did hit she had to play around with it, until the nozzle was in the tank just right, then it would take the fuel. also, the vehicle was had problems with the brakes, and rotors wearing out too quickly and the master cylinder was cracked and leaking brake fluid. the consumer had the vehicle in the repair shop at least 10 times and needed to be returned to the repair shop. *ak the fuel tank problem had been worked on four times and still was not fixed. there were gear shift problems where the shifter would stick, multiple wiring console light problems, the wiper blade links were defective and caused the blade to come apart. *scc *jb referenced in rq03-006

 The car died while driving down the road repeatedly. battery leaked. brakes had to be replaced for the entire car at 60,000 miles. the vents on the dashboard have popped up and broken. now the defroster does not blow the air on the windshield. this vehicle was stored in a garage. the seams on the seat come undone. the cigarette lighter broke and flops in the dash. the switch to override the transmission lock is broken. the rear brake light broke when replacing the struts which you have to remove the back dash to get to. the board that is under the carpet in the trunk warped. the carpets came up from the sides of the car. the storage bin in the center console broke, twice. the wind shield chips and errodes when in a car wash. i have never seen a windshield in this bad shape before. the back seat does not stay down. the headlights have a bad seal and there is water now in them. the rubber around the doors comes out repeatedly. gear shifter is continually stuck. brakes take twice as long to stop my car as any other vehicle i have ever driven. i have to drive 2 & 1/2 hours to get repairs. the gas milage is closer to 24 mpg then the 35 that was marked on it when i bought it. there are noises from the engine compartment that are loud and unpleasant. there is a ground fault wire that is bad they want $75 an hour minimum of 10 hours to repair it. the fuse panel cover broke. the headlights cannot be alligned. *ak

 I had to have the brakes replaced twice on this car. once at 7000 miles, second time at 21577 miles. i also am having a problem with headliner...told it can't be fixed because it's all one pc.--3 times. called kia to complain and got zero results. would not recommend this type of car to anyone!!*ak

 I had to get new brakes put on within one week of owning the car 632 miles, and i've had a cracked brake line, fuse problems which they blame on the alarm, but another women had the same exact problem with no alarm attached, i've brought my car in numerous times regarding the brakes, and i was told that it was nothing. i just brought my car in with 23580 miles on it, and i was told that i needed new brakes and rotors, but that i would have to pay for. i have felt the same kind of brake problems ever since i bought this car, even when they said that there was nothing wrong. the car drags feeling like it's never going to stop, and then the brakes pump all the time. i've called kia regarding this and the fuse problem explaining, what if this causes a fuse to blow with my brakes, headlights, etc....and they did nothing. i also have buzzing coming from my engine with the ignition just switched to on. it sounds like a wiring problem, which i'm afraid could cause an electrical fire. you name it, this car has had numerous safety problems.*ak

 I have had four sets of rotors and pads put on my car. i was told by my dealership that the car brakes are manufactured defective. the only thing that kia will do is keep replacing them, the problem is not fixed permanantly. i fee unsafe in my car because i sometimes cannot stop. i am not provided with a rental car while i have to sit and wait for three hours and i do not receive any compensation for wages lost when i miss work for repairs. my car is new and i have had a lot of problems with it.*ak

 When driving and upon proceeding to stop applying the brake pedal, consumer heard a noise coming from the front end. also, vibration in the front end after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle lugged forward. also, frontal safety belts do not retract, causing the belt to be very loose . consumer has contacted the dealer. please provide any further details.*ak

 I have turned this car into service two times and they state that there is nothing wrong with this vehicle. but i still have the problems and they want do anything about it. also the vehicle was stolen from the dealership serv. dept. on 3/6/00 and located in another state with physical damage and there are no id #'s on car any longer. i feel like this dealership should have to replace or the lemon law needs to be in effect for this car. no safety defect listed within summary. *ak

 Whenever the brakes (abs) are applied, steering wheel would shake. after going 65mph or better, the entire vehicle would shake/vibrate. the abs brake system was repaired twice. the air conditioner makes loud noises when turned on. sometimes the vehicle would not start or catch right away. needs to jiggle key to get it started. *ak

 Consumer stated vechicle was defected when she purchased it on sep 11 1999 . consumer took it back on sep 13 1999 because she has been having problems, such as transmission fluid leaking out from underneath her vechicle. also, brakes not working properly when applying brakes. pedals went allthe down to the floor. also vechicle overheated. also, front grill /windshield wipers and gas gauge had to b ereplaced, and i still don't work . at this time the consumer has registered a complaint with the lemon law. her car is at the dealership waiting for a part. *ak

 I started taking my car in to the mechanic at the dealership shortly after i purchased the car about the car not shifting correctly and being so sluggish. i'm not sure about the dates i took the car in but it was several times. i was told that nothing was wrong or they couldn't find any problems. it has just gotten so bad that i'm not able to drive the car now. i've had problems with the brakes, the air conditioner, check engine light coming on and staying on and the overdrive light flashing on and off. i'm sure they don't have a record of the many times i've gone by because they would usually just look at it or drive it around the block and say they couldn't find anything. now that the warranty is out , they have come up with some suggestions at my expense. the car has never performed properly and they just kept putting me off until i finally gave up. i am unable to drive the car now because it will barely get up to 35 miles per hour. i will greatly appreciate anything you may be able to do to assist me. thanks

 The parking brake does not hold when the engine is off only with transmission in first or reverse, the emergency brake info was misleading in the owners manual, the consumer believes the brake cable is not strong enough, the parking brake has been adjusted several times, on one occasion the brake was set on park and the vehicle rolled and hit a garage door, front disc pads and rotors failed causing grinding noise while braking. nlm

 I would just like to say that i am very upset that the problems i have seem to be repetitive. the brakes have been done 4 maybe 5 times and kia will no longer replace them. the power steering has been malfunctioned twice. i have been through the better business bureau and have worked out the first 3 times the brakes went bad but i have since been back twice and had a power steering leak and now my car is in the shop again. as for the brakes each time they went back there was severe pulsation when breaking and shaking in the steering wheel. the power steering fluid leaked and was fixed and now leaked again and is being fixed currently.*ak

 While driving on the beltway consumer attempted to stop vehicle on heavy traffic but the brakes failed to stop. the consumer pressed on the pedal and the pedal hit the floor without stopping. the consumer served to the side to slow the vehicle down and coast. the consumer had the brakes already replaced at 9,000. also, brake failure caused consumer into an automobile accident. airbags did not deploy at the time of the accident. per dealer, manufacturer is aware of brake problem.*ak

 The brakes squeak and the pads were replaced at 1200 miles, the brakes failed again at 6600 miles the rotors were warped and the pads were worn and i returned the car to northwestern dodge and kia and they replaced the pads and machined the rotors, however the stering wheel shakes and vibrates when i drive on the expressway and the brakes are still grinding. the stering wheel and column vibrates and shakes when i drive at 50+ mph. at 6600 miles the check engine light illuminated and there is a burning smell. the car dies out when i am at a stand still for no reason and without any warning. i have to start the car at least 3 times before it turns over. overall i would say that i am disappointed with the car and the moment that i can trade it in i plan to do so and i will advise anyone who is thinking about purchasing this car to not even consider a kia (any model) because they are not well made cars.

 Odi #765565 (continued) i forgot to advise that this new disc brake & new rotors will cost $150 before any labor costs are added onto the bill. again--why must the consumer pay for this design flaw. i bought a new 1979 ford fiesta which also had a brake design flaw & that was a recall. and can you please find a way to notify the public to file these complaints so that you can investigate these matters & address them properly. i happened on this website by accident because i didn't know that i could request an investigation. thank you for your time and effort.*ak

 Tried to get disc brakes replaced today--kia has changed the disc pads & rotors because the original ones are of poor design?? why isn't this a recall?? i knew at about 6000 mi that there was a problem with the brakes. plus an online forum made comments about these brakes numerous times. the insurance industry rated this car poorly (because of the brakes?) i can't even buy the original brake disc pads because kia has recalled them from the dealers. why isn't this a recall. why must the consumer pay for this design defect??*ak

 The rotors on the front of the car were brought to my attention on 2/15/2002. i had taken my car in for 30,000 mile service check. the service person said my brake pads needed to be replaced,but i to also had to get new rotors for the car too. kia is no longer making the pads for my 1999 kia sephia orginal rotor because as stated my the repre at leith car dealership the rotors were found to have flaws and kia had replaced the old type with a new design. my concern is, if kia knows the original rotor have design flaw, should have to do a recall on those vehicles that have these old rotors. i have spoken to the customer care with kia at 1-800-333-4542. he said not could be done because it is part of the brake system. i just wanted nhtsa to have this on record. thank you. jason wynn (919) 752-0023. *ak

 There have been no accidents due to this problem, however, we have had to have the pads and rotors replaced 5 times due to wearing of the pads, and warping of the rotors. the company has offered an extended warranty if we sign a release freeing them from any liability for the car other than warranty replacement parts and labor past, present or future, or resposibility for injkuries or property damage.*ak

 I am the owner of a 1999 kia sephia, which i purchased brand new in august of 99. at 14,843 miles, i experienced serious problems with the brakes. when the brakes are applied at 35 mph, the front of the car and the steering wheel would shake out of control when coming to a stop. the brake pads and rotors were replaced at 14,843, by a certified kia mechanic. soon after, on a separate occasion, my vehicle was brought in for repairs to the same mechanic for the same problem. in july of 2001, i experienced the same problem for the 3rd time.the vehicle was brought in for repairs to the same kia mechanic and the pads were replaced. on 25 oct 01, i brought my car in again to the same kia mechanic to tend to the same brake problem. the service director, stated that the brakes would be adjusted and that the rotors would once again be repalced. the general manager, service director and the owner were all notified, via certified letters, regarding the defective brake problem which i have experienced for the past two years. i also contacted kia motors of america, consumer affairs office, of the existing problems to my vehicle's braking system. i was assured by all relevant parties involved, that this is considered normal wear-and-tear. the brake system in my vehicle is very unreliable and defective. the manufacturer insists that the brakes in my vehicle are safe and that my car would not be repurchsed due to monal were and tear to the brakes. i am the owner of another make and model vehicle which is 12 years old. the 12 year old vehicle has not required a brake repair in over 4 years. my kia is used to drive to-and-from work approx. 4 miles from home. occasoinally, the car is driven on short trips, but it is evident from the current mileage that the car is not overdriven. a reliable brake system should, on average, last longer than 6-12 months at a time. quality craftsmanship was not a primary concern of kia motors when desining their vehicles.

 Right after i purchased vehicle, music system had to be replaced. battery had to be replaced in less than a year.had to take it in for two recalls. brakes sometimes squeak when you come to a stop. while traveling on the highway car will start to vibrate. the low fuel light comes on even though you may have over a half of tank of gas. engine is racing to high. notice in july/00 while driving car starts to jerk or plung forward for no apparent reason. also when you apply your brakes it will do this. recently i have taken car to the dealership about this problem, but they could not find anything wrong with it.

 My new 1999 kia sephia only has 11,500 miles on it.- i drive, primarily highway miles to and from work five days a week. for the last two months, my vehicle steering column has been shaking when i brake. the local kia dealer (earnhardt- i bought from pitre kia, though) indicated they'd look at it the next time i came in for an oil change. this past sunday (7/9/00) i was driving home when the brake light came on. within a quarter of a mile i heard loud metal grinding sounds and the brake pedal went soft. i barely made it home (using parking brake and downshifting, primarily, wit my automatic transmission). it ends up that, without even prior warning (whistling or anything), my front, right brake pads, with only 11, 500 miles on the vehicle, wore completely down and the rotor was being deeply cut into. it cost me $150 to replace. this is ridiculous for pads to go at only 11,500 miles and to cause such dangers to driver/passengers.*ak

 When trying to stop the vehicle there is a horrible vibration. it is very hard to control and stop the vehicle while braking. our gas tank will not take in gas. the tank could be completely empty and it will take a dollar's worth of gas, then gas will start spewing out all over. our car dealer said he doesn't know what it could be and hasn't heard anything from kia about this being a problem. (it isn't the gas gauge.) the air bag light came on and stayed. we got this fixed and haven't had problems with this again. also, we have a manuel transmission. we have had trouble with it kicking out of gear. we could be going down a highway and it will kick out of fifth gear. it does its own thing. we have had this vehicle since august and it has been nothing but problems. my wife and i no longer trust this car and this is the only vehicle we have to rely on. we also have gotten 2 recall notices from kia. one for the wipers, they can fly off at any given time and for the fuel pump being improperly installed. we contacted our dealer and they said they are waiting for kia to send them more parts, until then we must wait to bring our car in to be checked out. we have been waiting.

 When traveling over 40 mph& upon depressing brake pedal to make a gradual stop consumer notice virbation coming from the brake pedal and the front end of the vehicle. the entire front end shook. consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has replaced the brake rotors. please provide any further details. *ak
 When traveling 50 mph &upon braking consumer noticed vibration in the brake peda. also front of the vehicle shakes and there is a noise coming from the front end. consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer determined the cause to be front brake rotors and pads wearing out. please provide any further details.

 When applying the brakes there is rough vibration in the front end of the vehicle. this happens when braking normally. the brake rotors were replaced at 3,000 miles. owner is experiencing the same problem again with 6,200 miles. please provide any further information. *ak
 When brakes were applied pedal would go to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. also vehicle would jerk. dealer replaced the rotors. *ak
 When brake pedal was applied it felt soft and vehicle vibrated very hard. consumer had to keep space between other vehicles in case of an emergency. dealer has been contacted, and stated that it sounded like the rotors were going bad. *ak

 My left front tire is completely thread bare, and my mechanic tells me the remaining three are in dire need of replacement as well. this is the second pair of these tires to be replaced on this car. the first pair was at 2,000 miles. i have read of many complaints about this manufacturer's tires in the nhtsa data base. most of the reports for the kia sephia did not mention the make and manufacturer of the tire. i would like for this tire to be investigated before someone is seriously injured. had i not had my car in to have it serviced and the tires rotated i would not have been aware of the severity of the ware problem and could have been involved in an accident. in reference to the transmission on the kia sephia i have had two transmissions installed in this car since april of this year and the previous owner had returned the car to the manufacturer to have a new transmission installed. why is kia permitted to continue to provide defective materials for these vehicles?*ak

 I have 2 kids and a wife...... if my brakes fail at the wrong time no amount of $$ could fix it.....please have them fix this problem....look at all the posts related to this....it is a real problem. no safety defect mentioned. *ak

 This car has been, nonstop, 1 mech problem after another with kia co & manuf claiming 'normal wear/tear or first heard of problems.' your site shows that other consumers of same vehicle have all experienced same problems (esp brakes, battery, tires, steering column, fuel assembly). kia & dealership unresponsive and unaccountable for products sold and represented- esp. highly dangerous vehicle problems/defects.  Car is just a lemon every siince we purchased it. we tried to get our money back(paid cash)and we were not able to per the car dealer,etc.nothing is ever repaired to the standard and we are upset.

 Brakes and rotars have had to be replaced within 1 yr two times. first incident was at 1,500 miles when taken in for oil change. the second event occured today costing me $150 to replace the rotars & brakes. car often has a grinding sound when braking. this is uncommon for a new car.

 Brakes have been squeaking since we bought the vehicle. the engine light is on and the car is only 2 weeks old, 700 miles. i contacted the service depart. they said it's probably from not tightening the gas cap. we checked and the cap is as tight as it can get. they have had this complaint from other owners.

 Had to go to hospital for surgery. car wouldn't move the brakes were locked. couldn't go forward or backwards. the back wheels would just slide. the brakes are still in good shape half the pad is left and when we got home from my surgery husband went out to check the problem and here the brakes just fell apart in pieces. we had to buy new brakes and put them on i can send the old brakes in they are the original brakes that where on the car when we bought it. i fear this could happen while someone is driving and could case a bad accident.*ak

 I had to get new brakes put on within one week of owning the car 632 miles, and i've had a cracked brake line, fuse problems which they blame on the alarm, but another women had the same exact problem with no alarm attached, i've brought my car in numerous times regarding the brakes, and i was told that it was nothing. i just brought my car in with 23580 miles on it, and i was told that i needed new brakes and rotors, but that i would have to pay for. i have felt the same kind of brake problems ever since i bought this car, even when they said that there was nothing wrong. the car drags feeling like it's never going to stop, and then the brakes pump all the time. i've called kia regarding this and the fuse problem explaining, what if this causes a fuse to blow with my brakes, headlights, etc....and they did nothing. i also have buzzing coming from my engine with the ignition just switched to on. it sounds like a wiring problem, which i'm afraid could cause an electrical fire. you name it, this car has had numerous safety problems.*ak

 This car has been a constant repair and financial problem for the last 4 years starting two weeks after i purchased the car. it is an unsafe vehicle and can not be kept maintained for safety or reliability it was purchased with 21000 miles on the vehicle and a majority of repairs has had to be fixed. 4 starters, ignition switch, ignition switch wiring harness (ignition still doesn't work), air bag sensor, air bag wiring (air bags still does not work), alternator, front passenger side drive axel broke while i was driving the car, right passenger ball joint fell off the car while i was driving the car, master cylinder and rear brake cylinder went out at the same time while i was driving the car, heater/air conditioning motor. the car has been towed 3 times, and has left me and my children stranded too many times to count. the car is still in need of major repair. the driver rear stabilizer bushings need replaced, the driver's side drive axel needs replaced, the air bags still do not work, the ignition switch still gets stuck and won't turn over, and two weeks ago a piston was thrown through the engine and caught the car on fire. the car is now parked in my drive way leaving me stuck with a car payment and a car that is not worth fixing. *nm

 Vehicle has had numerous problems resulting in a total of 35 non-maintenance related reparis during the life of the vehicle. numerous attempts have been made to resolve this situation with the manufacturer directly, but to no avail. arbitration with the bbb and attorney general's office is currently underway. no safety defect mentioned. *ak

 Consumer is replacing rotors and pads too often. master cylinder has been changed, and brake fluid is leaking through cylinders. every 900 miles they are being changed. consumer is not sure why the brakes are having so many problems. *ak
