Reversed car from my driveway. felt as if i had crashed into something (heard loud grinding sound). put the car into drive and came to stop. upon pressing the brakes, felt as if the abs had engaged and gripped all four wheels. heard loud grinding sound and car jolted (as brakes were pressed). i had my five year old and three old sons with me; they screamed from the jolt. i slowly released the breaks and applied the breaks again, and same thing occured only with less force. turned off the car and called for towing. also, a howling whining noise is heard inside the car. the dealership had it for two weeks, and under the guidance of the field engineer they replaced the transfer case. the howling/whining noise continues. the dealership really tried to resolve the issue. the manager herself test drove the car and also heard the whining/howling sound. i did contact the manufacturer, but frankly felt dissapointed. i had asked if anyone has called in with similar complaints and was not given an answer. i feel unsafe and very anxious about driving the car. they dealership stated the breaks were fine, and that no error code was detected. i was not given a definitive answer as to what caused the breaks to behave this way or what is the howling noise that is occuring. this is the third major issue we had with this car. i have an awd vehicle and the current recall only covers the 2wd issue (that also has this howling sound). i have read numerous other complaints in which other 2011 awd sorentos are having similar issues. please investigate; someone could be seriously hurt or worse.

I was drive eastbound on i-70 in colorado in the mountains near the eisenhower tunnel at 2:40pm. there was no one in front of me on the road. traffic was light. it was approximately 5 degrees f. i heard a loud bang and pulled over. i got out of the car. the front sunroof on my kia sorento exploded outward. glass was pointing upwards. nothing hit my car. it just happened. glass was in a million little pieces. luckily the inside shade was closed, otherwise glass would have fallen all over me and my son (in the back seat). i cleaned up the glass as best as i could. we called kia roadside assistance, but ended up driving to the next town and getting some cardboard to temporarily keep the wind out, and drove home. we are waiting to see if kia will cover it under warranty.

I bought my 2011 kia sorento preowned certified car on 12/07/2012, the next evening 12/08/2012 i was driving home from town and about one block before i got to my residence i heard a noise like something hit the bottom of the car. i then turned into my driveway and as i began to come to a stop i realized i had no brakes in turn hitting another persons car that was parked in my driveway. 911 was called because my son and myself were injured, as the fire department inspected the car he found on the drivers front wheel that most of the brake had fallen apart, the brake fluid was low also, later one of the brake pads was found on the road not far from my driveway none of the other missing parts were found. i have been trying to talk to kia and they don't seem to care nor have they tried to rectify the problem after a solid month. today when i was looking up a phone # for yet another kia dept i found that there was a recall for 2011 kia sorento for the exact same thing with my car. kia's preowned certified program guarantees that the car went through a 150 point inspection brakes being a top priority. all they will say is they can fix my smashed car and thats it, i was lead believe i was buying a certified 150 point inspected car which was not the case. the car is not safe i want what i was told i was buying. thank you

Bought car on 4-12-12 had 22531 miles on it. from time of purchase it would pull to the right severly. we had kia dealership check out steering problem. they couldn't find anything wrong. they charged us for an alignment and said car should stir fine. alignment do nothing to fix steering problem, still pulls severly to the right at any speed.

Attempted to park car while waiting for a relative to get off work. car would not shift to reverse or park- no further than neutral. was able to put car in neutral and brake to stop car. after dropping relative off at home (had to stop car in same manner as above), had to stop in a near empty parking lot, as i still was unable to put the vehicle in reverse or park. contacted kia dealership by phone and was told by representative to pump the break several times in order to shift the car to neutral/park. did not work. was told by rep that the braking cellinoid ? (spelling?) has malfunctioned and that i should use something like a small screwdriver to push down a button in a small box at the top right of the shifter. further stated that this would release the break so that the car could be put in park. was told that car would now be unable to be taken out of park unless the same process was repeated. i've owned this vehicle just over 3 months. certified per-owed. less than 34000 miles. will attempt to take to dealership for repair. unaware if service center will repair on saturday. this is the second time this has happened, but it was quickly remedied when i cut the car off and turned it back on while depressing the brake. thought it was a fluke until today. should have kept my 2006. this is my 3rd kia. 1st vehicle with an issue like this.

The incline control light & the traction control light came on for no reason. i was parking my vehicle on a flat surface and when these lights were on i was unable to put the car in park or reverse. i had to put the vehicle in nuetral and shut off the vehicle with my foot on the break. i then had to restart the vehicle, the control and traction lights were not on and i was able to put the vehicle in park. i went directly to the dealership that i made the purchase from and was told that this is a known defect in the brake line where there is a short in the line that causes the computer to think the break is not pressed down enough, therefore confusing the computer into thinking it should apply the incline and traction control and prevents the vehicle from being put in reverse or park. i was told that by turning the vechicle off while in neutral like i did will sometimes reset the computer. i was told there is also a little box that has a very small slit in it and if i could find something to fit into it that would go down about 6 inches, that would also reset it. however, they were not aware of what one would use to do that with. i was told there was no need to fix this very common problem. i asked if this would eventually mess up the drive shaft, computer system, or transmission and was assured it would not.

Vehicle unable to start, even with key in 'holster' in glove box. vehicle brake appeared to be pressed down already and no reaction when start button was pushed. this happened multiple times over a 3 day period. after multiple attempts over two days, the vehicle started. taken to dealership who detected nothing and were unable to duplicate the situation.

The date above is the first date there was a indication of a problem. the actual speed of travel has varied. the issue is random and has affected most systems at one time or the other. it has normally been a headache more than safety always going away after shutting the car down and restarting. to me it became a safety issue when about two months ago i heard a loud bang like i hit something and then my rpms increased and the transmission would not shift out of the lower gears. i pulled into a safe parking area, shut the car down and called the dealer. after restarting the car the problem went away, just as it has every time no matter what system has been affected. the issues have ranged from a cruise control refusing to activate, the cruise control having irractic behavior (often kicking in the passing gear when not required), total electronic panel shutdown (including radio), to doors locking on their own when open, to headlights not being turned off when they should have been after 2-30 seconds. the transmission issue has been the most serious. the car should have already been serviced under a similar recall. i have noted similar compliants including a similar transmission compliant on kia forums. kia itself refused to give the go ahead for a computer reset/upgrade. my dealer did this on his own for me after i made it clear this has gone too far. a personal conversation with kia was negative and was nothing short of talking in circles. i understand the issue of trying to traced random problems, but not the failure to start an investigation into, for instance, possible computer shielding issues making outside interference a possibilty. it remains to be seen if the computer update works, but it is a issue when a transimission shuts totally or partly down. the dealer has never been able to verify my compliants.

After using brakes to slow down, accelerator hesitates. need to push gas pedal down several times before accelerating (it becomes dead). has occured at least 6 times if not more. reported it to dealership twice and they attributed it to the fact that if you use two feet to drive (left foot on brake - right on gas) and if there is a chance that left foot may be slightly touching brake pedal, then the computer is confused. not an acceptable answer. some people do drive this way and this should be taken into account. it is a safety risk and a near risk on a couple instances. kia needs to be accountable and address this situation.

The intermediate shaft may suffer from noise and excessive wear due to a misalignment of the intermediate shaft with the right side output gear. continuing to drive the vehicle in this condition leads to the development of a whirring/whining noise and can eventually cause damage to the automatic transmission. i am getting the same but the kia dealers are telling me that there is not a recall on my vehicle as mine is an awd. when starting out a hesitation is felt when puttin in drive and when going down the highway a whirring noise is heard and it feels like a vibration is coming from the center of the car.

My sorento will hesitate to move when the accelerator is pressed and then suddenly lurch forward with full acceleration for a brief time. this is an erratic problem. dealers response is to wait until it become consistent -- my response, i may be dead before that time. customer service response is driver error. my response is that i have driven for decades many different model and age vehicles and have logged in appx 2 million safe miles. my experience with the kia is my first problem with such an issue. kia denies any problem with the sudden acceleration issue, however a google search turns up numerous similar issues. i have noted that this problem has occured only when making left hand turns so far.

Car will not start with key or remotely control. after car sits for a time, several hours or days, it may start. car has shut off by itself and will not start ... had to be towed several times. seems to have a computer system malfunction that dealer cannot repair.

1st problem: i bought the car, drove it off the lot, dealership did not get it inspected so i had to tae it at 10 miles to get an inspection sticker on it! 2nd problem: immediately after buying the car, i noticed all the windows and doors rattled. took it to kia in kingwood 5 times and they could never hear the sound and/or fixed other things on the car that did not need to be fixed. problem still exists. 3rd problem: engine light kept coming on, 3 visits later, i needed a new transmission, at 13,000 miles..something wrong with sensor that measures fluids?? 4th problem: taking back at 14,500 miles on monday(3/18/12) to get doors checked out now electronics are messed up and loud noise everytime i lock or roll down windows. also, cant get key to turn in ignition alot!! what a piece of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometime in oct. 31, 2011, my kia sorento 2011 failed to start up. it took me to dial my cell and call kia roadside assisstance to deal with this problem. and now, march 6, 2012, another problem, worse than the first, occured. it was tuesday morning, while i'm excited to report to work early for a scheduled post conference with the asst. principal, one of my evaluators, i just can't work and get the post conference done due to the failure of my kia sorento 2011 to move via d shift. i went outside to see what happen but i don't see any outside trouble until another driver asked me whats wrong and heard something underneath from my kia sorento 2011 then he said --- transmission. i called kia roadside assisstance and waited for almost three hours until we get there at orr kia-mitsubishi dealer shreveport (same dealer where i got my kia sorento 2011). i was told to rent a car for 2 - 3 days since they can't provide me a dealer's temporary car to keep me going and do what i'm supposed to do. after 2 days, i called and was told that indeed transmission is the problem.

While driving the vehicle and while pressing the gas pedal the vehicle starts to come to a stop as if the gas pedal is not being applied. i have to release the gas pedal and press it again for the sorento to respond and continue to accelarate. i took it to the dealer and they have no clue as to what is the problem. they reset the computer and released the vehicle to me but the problem persists.

I have a 2011 kia sorento. after about 6 months of owning the vehicle my driver side window randomly would stick with the window down or not go down at all. i took it to the kia store east in louisville ky and each time they would say we couldn't find any problems. after the third time (july 2011) they decide to replace the switch. worked about 6 months. the problem has started again. my husband took it in and they looked at it and now says the motor is getting hot and is probably due to my tint. the passenger side window has the same tint on it. which was matched to the manufacturer tint on the back windows. they say they have to call the national tech support to see if there has been any problems in the past. i have found several. i feel a little discriminated against because they would not look deeper into the problem when i came in but did when my husband took it.

Driving home on rainy day when sunroof shattered out of nowhere. did not run off the road nor did i hear anything hit the vehicle. i heard one loud pop and noticed sunroof visor sagging significantly. cannot prove something didn't hit it, but did not find any evidence of something hitting the sunroof. contacted kia to see if any other cases had been reported with kia representative (shamara) stating that she did not believe there is anything wrong with their vehicles, but she also stated that she did not have the resources to look back and see if there was another report. she also declined to let me speak with her supervisor on this matter. due to safety purposes, i believe kia needs to look into this possible issue. if this has happened to anyone else, please contact kia and nhsta in order to help correct this possible problem.

This 2011 kia sorento lx is a v6, key start with 13,000 miles purchased new in december 2010. the problem started as a clicking noise occurring between reverse and drive. then the clicking became more noticeable when i pushed on the brake. it did not happen every time but enough to be annoying and causing concern of what the noise meant. i took it into the dealership where they asked me to show them the problem. the noise was especially loud between neutral and drive. they replaced a defective shifter. this fixed the clicking.

I have a 2011 kia sorento. on several occasions the push button start would not start. once, it started i took the car into the service department. but, they could not find any problems. the problem seems to be happening more often. today after several hours it still will not start. i will have to have it towed in the morning and deal with the same issue again. also on several occasionsi was unable to take my car out of drive and put it in park. i had to put my emergency break on and shut off the car and restart it.

Bought new 2011 kia sorento in february and have 11,000 miles on it. i have taken it in several times for the push to start taking a bit to start. it seems as if sometimes it is not going to start. took it in at 8000 miles and they said it was a break sensor and the part was on back order. just got that fixed with 11,000 miles on it. took kia in this week for a noise in the front wheel becuase it sounds like the wheel is going to fall off. problem was not fixed. said kia was working to resolve issue with brake pad but that it was safe for me to drive and that nothing would happen. not to happy about my service not getting taking care of when i take it in. apparently they need to just replace our cars if they can't fix it. i dont appreciate buying a $27,000 car and being told that they are working on a solution. very disappointed in my new kia already having all these problems and only 11,000 miles on it.

My 2011 kia sorento is stuck in the drive position. this has occurred on and off for a few months but was always able to manipulate the brake, and key to get the car to shift. today i left for work, made a quick stop at the store and my kia would not shift into park. i was ae to put it in neutral. i turned the car off applied the er brake got what i needed. returned to the car and started it. was still unable to shift to p, or r. i was in neutral and luckily on a slight slope so the car rolled back enough to avoid hitting the building. place the car in drive and went on to work. when i arrived at work the car still would not go in to anything but n and d the traction control light and down slop light came on and would not go off. after a while my husband was able to get the car in park. i then left for an appointment and the car would not shift out of p. giggled things around and finally was able to back up and drive. when i arrived at my appointment the kia would not go into r or p and it remained that way. i had to place the car in neutral apply er brake. after work i was able to maneuver the gear shift enough to be able to get it to go into reverse. i heard loud clunking noises. backed up slowly and carefully. putting the car into drive i heard more loud noises. i then proceeded to the kia dealership where i purchased the car and left it for them to check it out. i'm extremely aggervatted that i had to leave my car unlocked all day with the key in the emission and er brake applied. i hope this helps with the investigation of the bad transmissions in the kia.

While driving downhill for no apparent reason even though the downhill assist switch is turned off, the car starts braking by itself as if the hill brake assist switch was turned on. this happens most of the time and almost caused a crash from someone hitting my rear end since the brake lights do not come on.

Going downhill in our newly purchased 2011 kia sorento ex v6, reaching a 4 way stop, our engine quit. vehicle had only 175 miles on it as it is brand new. car restarted without further incident. took it to dealer, they found no problem or faults registered on the onboard computer. i have read of similar occurrences with other 2011 kia sorento ex v6. i will file another report if it happens again.

Since day 1 from when i bought the car, it pulls to the right. i took it to the dealer, they did a tire rotation that hasn't fixed the issue. i have to keep constant pressure on the steering wheel to avoid it from pulling right and ending up in a ditch.

I have a 2011 kia sorrento purchased new. on saturday, february 19, 2011 with 20,000 miles on the vehicle, the car completely shut down. the dealership still has the vehicle and is replacing the entire transmission. i am concerned as this is a new vehicle and they cannot give me the actual reason why a transmission in a new vehicle could fail. i had with me my 3 year old child and am concerned regarding the overall safety of this vehicle.

I have had the car for about 4 months. during this time it has 5 times completely shut off in the middle of an intersection and once while i was changing lanes in stop and go traffic. i have taken it back to the dealer twice and they have been unable to duplicate the problem.

When taken to a speed over 35 mph felt a drift to the right in the steering. when taken to higher speeds, it became physically necessary to hold steering wheel tightly in order to keep vehicle from going to the right. steering seemed extremely tight and somewhat jerky when cornering making it difficult to get a smooth turn. steering wheel did not sit straight when driving straight. front wheels not pointing at same angle when parked. noticed odor after driving 15 miles that can only be explained as a burning brakes odor. took vehicle to dealer repair department where they performed an alignment; however, this did not fix the problem and we were then told that kia was saying new tires would fix this kia known issue. the tires were ordered and put on within the next few days, but replacing the tires did not fix the problem. at this time, we were made aware that our loan had not actually funded yet, so we asked for a contract recession due to the fact that the problem with this vehicle was a known, non repairable issue. the dealership refused contract recession. we were told we would be contacted if kia came up with a solution to this issue. we returned the vehicle to the dealership repair shop 2 days later telling them to call us when it was fixed. kia customer service called 2 days after we dropped the vehicle off the second time to let us know that new springs were needed, had been ordered, and would be at the shop the next day. that was nearly a week ago and we have yet to hear from anyone about the vehicle. dealership has now determined that the vehicle is performing as it should be, even though it still drifts to the right. turning to the right feels normal, while turning to the left feels as if i am fighting to keep the wheel from snapping back towards the right. kia will not look into the problem any further on this vehicle.

After completeing the second nhtsa complaint #10377110 last evening on our 2011 kia sorento, my spouse came home from driving the 2011 kia sorento (with two previous transmission complaints) and informed myself the vehicle now accelerates on its own!!! my spouse stated the engine started reving all by itself so i hit the brakes. she stated the vehicle's brakes did in fact stop the vehicle and she was able to drive home safely with no further incidence. please do something about the kia sorento before someone is hurt. we will no longer drive the vehicle for any reason.

Took delivery of a 2011, kia sorento lx, with 2.4l engine, on 4/22/10. during the next 3.5 months and 4,800 miles, this vehicle has experienced the following safety issue seven times, two of which a collision was narrowly avoided. when pressing on the accelerator, from it's default position, the engine remains at idle speed for approximately 1.5 seconds before accelerating rapidly, proportionate to the then throttle position. during this lag, the accelerator pedal was held in the position representing the appropriate amount of acceleration under normal driving conditions. this hesitation occurs unexpectedly, severely impacting normal judgment and driving reactions. this has occurred on flat pavement, slight incline or decline, from a stop, pulling out into traffic, or while traveling 35 to 40 mph attempting to merge into traffic. it went in for service at a kia dealership the day after this problem occurred twice in one trip, almost resulting in an accident. the vehicle has currently been in the shop for one week. after one day, the dealer could not duplicate the problem and kia had no resolution, therefore both parties offered to return the vehicle. others have reported this problem on the internet. our incident was reported to kia. the resultant case has been escalated through kia

Own 2011 sorento ex v6 - similar compalint as another when using pushbutton start every 4 or 5 starts a loud clunking and engine torque or transmission is experienced. also noted a continuing oscillating hum coming from the rear wheel area - very noticeable on somewhat smoother roads. not due to roads since i have tried other roads to rule out a particular road. it's from the car and not the road. it never goes away.

Bought a 2011 sorento lx v6. wife drove it home that night. i did not drive till two day's later with only 105 miles on it, and immediately felt the call pulling right at all times, even the steering wheels is off center. also like other owners; the car has the constant noisy front/right wheel, and the transmission thud/jerk about every 5 starts. i called the dealership and asked to speak to the sales mgr. and explained the situation, he told me he had heard of no such issues about any cars at any time. he told me to come in and talk to the sales person who sold me the car. he made no attempt to reassure me and clearly lied. i will be taking the car in a the end of the week and see where this hopefully short road will take us. also for any other person who comes upon these complaints, please do you homework on your states lemom laws. they are designed to protect you and the seller, so be sure you do your part, it can be easy to screw yourself over.

2011 kia sorento 4-cyl ex alignment issue: purchased auto 3/27/10 and noticed the next day that the car drifts to the right. was told to wait 30 days (or 1000 miles) for break-in period. the dealership did an alignment on 5/5/10; they then straightened the steering wheel on 5/6/10; and tightened the specs on 5/7/10. they could not fix the problem. i took it to another kia dealership in akron on 5/19/10, and they rotated the front tires and did another alignment--they couldn't fix the problem either. the car still drifts to the right. i am working with kia corporation to try to find a fix, but felt the information was important to nhtsa should other complaints be received on the same problem.
