Defect SummaryVehicle description: sport utility vehicles. as a result of water ingress and subsequent ice blockage, the transmission breather tube can become clogged, expelling transmission fluid from the dipstick tube onto hot engine components.
Consequence SummaryThis leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in an underhood fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will remove the transmission breather tube from the inner fender and a section of the hose will be cut at an angle. this action will remove the end of the breather tube from any pooled water and will eliminate water droplets from clinging to the end of the tube.

On april 6 2006 at 1:30 am i pulled into my parking space. i noticed that there was smoke coming from under the hood of my car. my boyfriend to take a look. when he opened the hood there was a fire. we tired to put it out but had no success so a resident called the fire department and they came to control the fire. until now we don't know what cause the fire. as i was checking on safety recalls we came across this web site and read up on a recall campaign-(coolant system durability 1995 to 1999 my land rover range rover). if this is the cause of the fire to my vehicle shouldn't (land rover) be responsible for our damage? looking for to hearing from you and settling this matter. sincerely yours. *jb

While driving locally, in the neighborhood engine check light came on. called dealer who told consumer to bring the car in. was about 4 miles from home and the temperature gauge registered hot. stopped immediately, called aaa and had it towed. was told by dealer that the number one engine cylinder dropped into the piston because it moved, allowing anti-freeze to get into the engine. *ak

This is the second time the radiator hose just fell off the radiator side. at 5000 miles while idleing the hose fell off and land rover replaced the motor. two months ago i had the vehicle serviced per the hose recall. land rover will not give me any assurence of that i will not have continued problems with the radiator/hoses as i live in the desert this is of great concern to me as it gets in the 130 range duning the summer. this could be life threatening for my children and myself
