08V248000LAND ROVERfrom 11/01/2004 to 12/23/2005V (Vehicle)3714207/30/2008MFRFORD MOTOR COMPANY06/04/200806/04/2008
Defect SummaryLand rover is recalling 37,142 my 2005-2006 lr3 and range rover sport vehicles. relative motion between the steering wheel hub and/or the steering column cowl with the clockspring, which includes the driver side air bag circuitry, could result in fracturing of the air bag wiring connection. if an air bag wire fractures, the srs warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster. the srs warning light indicates to the driver that there is a concern with the srs system in the vehicle and that immediate repair is necessary.
Consequence SummaryIf the srs warning light is ignored and a vehicle crash of sufficient severity to command deployment of the driver's air bag occurs, the air bag module may not deploy in the intended manner. the condition may result in the deployment of only one stage of the dual stage driver's air bag or the air bag may not deploy at all increasing the risk of serious injuries to the driver.
Corrective SummaryDealers will insert 1mm spacers between the lower left hand side of the column switch mounting point and the column lock to improve the alignment of the column switch. two foam pads will also be fitted to the top of the steering column switch gear to provide assured clearance between the cowl and the clockspring face. the recall began on july 30, 2008. owners may contact land rover at 1-800-637-6837.

Air suspension system is malfunctioning. vehicle bounces erratically at all road surfaces. erratic bouncing at highway speeds may cause driver to overseer and leading to a catastrophic (accident) event. the front end of the vehicle collapses while parked causing excessive strain on ball joints and front control arms (to date ..nearly $2000 in repairs). dealership has done all it can to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer is land rover. land rover corporate has refused to assist owner or dealership in providing a technical solution to the problem. only advice is of us to wait for a computer error code to display on the dash so the dealer can determine which part to replace. safety issue.. this is unacceptable. (air shock, sensor, air shocks compressor, values). this problem has persisted for over a year and we have not gotten an error message. we request land rover replace computer module and sensors to air shocks, or replace air shocks

There is a known issue with the 2006 range rover sports steering system where the steering wheel physically shakes uncontrollable during high speeds. there is also a loud knocking heard during low speeds. steps have been taken to fix this in the uk but not in the usa. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 land rover range rover sport. whenever the contact turns the vehicle, he feels and hears a grinding noise coming from the steering column. the grinding worsens in hot weather or after driving for a long period of time. the dealer advised him to bring in the vehicle and they changed the steering shaft. the vehicle has been to the dealer approximately 7 times for the same failure, but there has been no successful remedy. the vehicle is currently at the dealer having the rack and pinion changed. the technician stated that the repair to the rack and pinion would only be a temporary repair until the manufacturer could provide a better remedy. the speed was unknown. the failure mileage was 5,635. updated 05/21/08 *bf the drivers door handle was stuck, the navigation system would go dim, the cruise control activated while driving, the passenger seat latch was not latch properly, the vehicle pulled to the left. updated 05/20/08. *jb
