I was driving home from a mountain community while it was snowing. i activated my ect snow button on my vehicle and proceeded to go up and down two large snow covered mountains. after successfully traversing the terrain, i approached a stop sign when i began to lose control of the car. my safety features , trac and ect activated and righted the vehicle, however, after the vehicle was righted, the vehicle suddenly loss power and seemed as if it stopped. the car was shut off and turned back on, however, the brake, abs, and slip indicator lights remained illuminated. i proceeded to drive on the main road and went down two hills before approaching a hill and began to climb the hill, at which time my rear wheels began to spin and i lost control of the vehicle and turned 180 degrees in the middle of the road. at that time, i decided to go back to my original location, however, trac, ect, nor my brakes were functioning. i slowly went down the hill and approached the first hill i had gone down and immediately, loss traction and spun around into a ditch. two individuals helped me get the car righted and back on the road, at which i again spun around and ended up in the front yard of vacant house. the car remains at that location and is awaiting pick up by the manufacturer with none of the safety features functioning. i was very fortunate that i was not injured nor did i injure anyone else. the car is currently unable to be driven and will be towed to the nearest lexus dealer on or about 12/28/2010.

The automatic dimming rearview mirror on my lexus may present a hazard due to its failure to adequately dim bright trailing headlights quickly and sufficiently, sometimes resulting in a several second blinding by headlight in following cars. my lexus dealer says that the mirror is to spec and that they cannot fix it. i demonstrated to the dealer that the mirror took 5 seconds to start to respond to a trailing headlight and another 2 seconds to darken. thus, for example, a truck could pull into the lane behind the lexus and the mirror would take 7 seconds to fully dim the truck's headlights. in addition, there is no way to keep the mirror dim, that is, when the trailing light ceases the mirror brightens. in addition, in a brightly lit situation, such as on a highway with good overhead lighting, the mirror thinks it's daylight and will not dim at all, even when a very bright headlight from a following car/truck is shining into it. this is a dangerous application of a half-way technology that has not been developed fully and could lead to a dangerous situation. for both safety and utility, a simple flip rearview mirror that stays dim and is dim enough to prevent blinding by trailing headlights would be much safer than the high-tech, but unsafe, lexus rearview mirror.
