Defect SummaryToyota is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 highlander, highlander hybrid, and model year 2004-2007 lexus rx330, rx350, and rx400h vehicles. if the forward retention clip used to secure the floor carpet cover, which is located in front of the center console, is not installed properly the cover may lean toward the accelerator pedal and interfere with the accelerator pedal arm.
Consequence SummaryIf this occurs, the accelerator pedal may temporarily become stuck in a partially depressed position rather than return to the idle position. a stuck accelerator pedal may result in unintended and sustained vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the floor carpet cover with a newly designed one free or charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during march 2011. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Defect SummaryOn certain sport utility and hybrid vehicles, the two retaining clips for the driver's side forward center console can become loose. if both clips separate from the floor carpet cover, the cover may lean toward the accelerator pedal, causing interference with the accelerator pedal rod.
Consequence SummaryThis condition may interfere with the accelerator pedal returning to the idle position increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the two floor carpet cover retaining clips free of charge. the recall began on july 24, 2006, and should be completed by early september 2006. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or lexus at 1-800-255-3987.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2005 lexus rx-330. while driving approximately 5 mph the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle would not stop until crashing. during the failure the contact could smell a burning odor and noticed smoke was coming from under the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the body damages were repaired. it was then towed to an authorized dealer where they brakes were repaired. the failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 52,000. sm.

 2005 lexus rx330 would not stop nor break as headed downhill in slightly snowy weather at about 25mph. as road curved, i could not slow vehicle and thus started to lose steering control. i attempted to accelerate thinking it wa a forward slide but that didn't change things and vehcile continued to accelerate. so i hit the breaks hard-- no result, no additional control. vehicle continuted for about a block, hit curb, then tree. totalled vehicle and injury to myself. assumed at the time the speed was lower but after seeing damage later and getting physical therapy, it clearly had accelerated before hitting the curb-- which did slow it down before hitting the tree. three of four tires blew out with holes on the sides from force of impact with curb.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2005 lexus rx330. whenever he depressed the accelerator pedal there was a three second delay before the vehicle accelerated. this would occur whenever he tried to pass another vehicle or accelerate into traffic. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the software was changed. the toyota manufacturer was called and they stated that the vehicle was functioning normally. this problem has existed since the vehicle was purchased in march 2005. the failure mileage was 10 miles and the current mileage was 102,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2005 lexus rx330. he stated that the vehicle hesitated and accelerated momentarily while depressing the acceleration pedal. he also stated that when the vehicle traveled around a curve or bend, it would momentarily accelerate abnormally. the dealer advised him that there were no related complaints and could not duplicate the failure. there were no repairs made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were under 15,000. updated 04/16/10. *lj

 Tl* the contact owns a 2005 lexus rx30. while entering a parking space she applied pressure to the brake pedal, and then the vehicle accelerated without intention. consequently, the vehicle crashed into a building. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a collision center. the front end of the vehicle received $9,088 worth of damage. the failure and current mileages were 22,000.
