Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles. the headlights can flash intermittently as a result of the circuit breaker opening. the vehicle's headlights can go out for brief intervals.
Consequence SummaryLoss of headlights during vehicle operation can affect a driver's ability to navigate the roadway and reduce the visibility of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a headlight switch that incorporates a cricuit breaker of revised design and installation of a wiring harness connector and wiring, if needed.
NotesOwner notification is expected to begin april 15, 1998. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Have taken this car to 2 different dealers for repairs, to no avail. motor knocks drastically, engine leaks when parked on slight downhill slope, new shocks/struts squeak terribly, loud thunking noise in rear end when going over bumps. gas mileage very eratic, rear high mount brake assembly melted. help!

 One of the bulbs in the high mounted rear brake lights went out. the plastic socket had burned and melted around the bulb. dealer not seen vehicle. *ak

 Headlights will all the sudden go off, then come back on, does this continuously and intermittently. they have been doing this ever since we have owned the car. i have almost been hit by other motorist and have had motorist flash their lights. also, i have nearly run off the road when i was driving down a dark road. i contacted nhsta by telephone on monday 4/30/2001.*ak

 Headlights remained on while vehicle was turned off. consumer unhooked the battery to keep the battery charged and a buzzing noise was heard coming from underneath the dashboard. consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that a headlight switch needed to be replaced. *ak
