Defect SummaryOn certain pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, sport utility vehicles, and motor homes chassis, the speed control deactivation switch may, under certain conditions, leak internally and then overheat, smoke, or burn.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in an underhood fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a fused wiring harness. owners of the passenger cars included in this campaign will be instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected as an interim repair. as soon as repair parts are available (expected october 2007), owners will be instructed to return to the dealers for installation of a fused wiring harness. the recall began on august 13, 2007, and mailing completed by september 19, 2007. owners may contact ford at 1-888-222-2751.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1995 lincoln mark viii. he received a safety recall notification for the vehicle speed control (nhtsa campaign id # 07v336000) in september 2007. the dealer disconnected the vehicle speed control. the manufacturer stated that the parts were unavailable and advised not to call back. the current mileage was 112,000 and there had been no failure to date. as of december 5, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. 1/02/08.*lj updated 12/31/07. *jb

 Vehicle didn't appear to slow down. consumer pulled to the shoulder to see if the brakes would stop the vehicle. *ph the cruise control was engaged and the vehicle was going 70 miles per hour when the engine raced. *sc *jb

 At times, the idling speed motor takes control of the car and causes the car to speed up out of control. this requires very heavy braking . it usually happens at very slow speed, and at dangerous times, (e.g. stopping for a cross walker). this has happened over a dozen times in the past five yeaars and has come close to near fataliity occurances. auto mechanics say only replacement of the control will work and they are not sure if the problem will not reoccur date below is the last occurance..
