Defect SummaryOn certain pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, sport utility vehicles, and motor homes chassis, the speed control deactivation switch may, under certain conditions, leak internally and then overheat, smoke, or burn.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in an underhood fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a fused wiring harness. owners of the passenger cars included in this campaign will be instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected as an interim repair. as soon as repair parts are available (expected october 2007), owners will be instructed to return to the dealers for installation of a fused wiring harness. the recall began on august 13, 2007, and mailing completed by september 19, 2007. owners may contact ford at 1-888-222-2751.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1996 lincoln mark viii. the contact stated that he received a recall notice informing him that the wiring harness switch could leak internally, overheat, smoke, and burn. the identical failure has occurred with the contacts vehicle while driving. the inside of the vehicle was damaged and was repaired for $3800. the contact stated that the dealer did not replaced or repair his wiring harness switch; therefore, he had to perform the repair himself and he will not be reimbursed. the manufacturer stated that if there was a a recall the vehicle would be repaired other than that the contact is liable for the repair costs. nhtsa 07v336000, vehicle speed control is related to the failure. the failure mileage was 58,730

 With foot on brakes vehicle started to rev, and took off on its own. wheels were spinning & burning. took vehicle to dealership twice for the problem. mechanic could not locate cause of problem. *ak

 Tl*the contact owns a 1996 lincoln mark viii. the contact received a recall notice for the vehicle speed control: cruise control in august of 2007. he was informed that the parts for the recall repair were unavailable. the contact had to wait nine months for the parts. the dealer stated that the parts would not be available until march of 2008. there had been no failure to date. the recall number was unknown. the current mileage was 102,321.

 Dt: the consumer heard of problem with the speed control switch on some ford lincoln mark viii. consumer has found that her vehicle has the same or similar switch that has been reported to cause fires in some ford vehicles. consumer would like to have her vehicle included the recall for the removal of this particular cruise control deactivation switch. *ak
