On 07/26/07, while driving our brand-new navigator, (purchased new on 07/06/07) all dash lights flickered and brake pedal would not engage. a cracking noise coming from the brake pedal sounded, and the light showing a car with squiggly lines flashed. after several attempts to engage the brakes, we were finally able to brake, but for a while we were not sure we were going to be able to do so. took the car to the dealer, they said they tried to duplicate the problem, but they couldn't. the same situation happened again on 08/22/07, in september, on 10/31/07, 11/27/07, 1/22/08 and again in march 2008. the dealer was never able to duplicate the problem, but the brakes keep on malfunctioning. to make matters worse, the code used in the repair forms, states customer complaint and multicheck inspection, but does not describe the brakes problem, therefore it shows as if there had never been a brake problem. i contacted ford, ask them to buy back the vehicle, and a representative who is not a mechanic told me that a fuse was being activated for excess light, but it had been fixed. that was before the malfunction of march 2008, so it must not have been it. it also surprises me that the mechanics working on the vehicle can't tell me what is wrong with it, or how to fix it, but somebody who is not a mechanic and has not even seen my vehicle can tell me how it was fixed. on top of that, since i contacted ford directly, the manager of the dealer got upset because we did so. *tr

Make: lincoln model: navigator year: 2007 issue: complete brakes failure description: on several occasions, the brakes have completely failed. we have observed that generally this failures occurs when the vehicle is going downhill at about 30 - 45 mph speed. the problem suddenly appears with no prior indication of anything malfunctioning, lasts for several seconds and then disappears. problem description: at speeds mentioned above, the antiskid light comes on with whirring / grinding noises and the brakes do not respond when the brake pedal is pushed. the conditions remains for several seconds, usually about 5 - 10 seconds periods when the brakes do not work at all. afterwards, the brakes start to work normally. the dealership has not been able to reproduce this condition and diagnose any issues, although this very problem has been reported and discussed by other owners in various forums on the internet. not being able to stop the car will result in an accident causing serious injuries and death. the dealership replaced the master cylinder and the brake booster. however, other lincoln navigator owners have reported the issue to be related to the speed sensors. replacement of master cylinder and the brake booster has not fixed the issue. *tr

Purchased vehicle as a cpo on 9/27/08. vehicle was left at dealership to replace navigation system failure. took physical delivery and drove home on 10/4/2008. low tire pressure warning light came on after 15 miles leaving dealership on way home(none of the tires were low on pressure). returned vehicle to dealer to have system checked and light reset. on 10/29 mileage on vehicle was 19,758. vehicle was being driven by my wife on a flat city street in laguna hills ca approximately 10 am approx 40 mph and the day was clear and warm. she applied the brake pedal to slow down and the brake pedal was hard and would not depress and the vehicle would not slow down and a grinding noise came from the front wheels and the front end was shaking the anti-skid light came on (while she continued to press down on the brake pedal) and the brakes did not engage until the vehicle traveled approx 100 feet. the vehicle slowed and she pulled into a parking lot at a slow speed and it happened again. towed to closest dealer. that dealer found no problem, and no codes showed up. took it to dealer that sold the vehicle to us. they can't replicate the problem, but are still researching. *tr

Was driving straight on a level paved street in town at about 30-35 mph, clear day, 70-75 degrees when the rsc dash light came on, and a loud grinding sound came from the transmission area, the transmission geared down by itself, the engine lost power, and i had no brakes. this lasted about 5 seconds or so. over the next 3/4 mile, the rsc dash indicator light would come on briefly and when it did, i had no braking ability. this happened about 3 times within 3/4 mile. the car was in dealership for 20 days, and the only thing they did was to put some electrical tape between the dash and defrost vent to prevent ambient light from coming onto the steering column. since the car was bought (new) the brakes have acted up twice, (before this event) either the pedel goes to the floor and it does not brake, or the pedal is very hard, and can't be pushed down to brake. when you let up and push it again, it operates ok. *tr
