Defect SummaryThe passenger side air bag has an inflator body that cracked during forming of the curl that retains the igniter plug in the end of the inflator. also the igniter end cap can separate from the inflator.
Consequence SummaryThe passenger side air bag may not inflate properly resulting in reduced occupant protection in a vehicle accident. if the igniter end cap separates in a frontal collision, hot gases can be released and ignite flammable material or cause burn injuries.
Corrective SummaryDealers will remove and replace the passenger side air bag module.

Defect SummaryEquipment description: passenger vehicles that have had the driver's air bag module replaced after april 5, 2000. the replacement driver's air bag module inflator may have insufficient welds that could prevent proper inflation of the air bag.
Consequence SummaryIn the event of a crash, the driver's air bag may not properly deploy which could potentially result in less than the intended level of occupant protection.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver's air bag module. owner notification began october 5, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-866-436-7332.

 Tl-the contact owns a 1995 lincoln town car. while driving approximately 5 mph the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. he stated the air bag light stayed on constantly where the front passenger seat was occupied or unoccupied. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure. he was advised that the drivers side seat belt assembly was defective. he stated the dealer replaced the drivers side seat belt assembly. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 77,998. vwb
