 The fars data shows that the risk of fire from impact in all directions in the subject vehicles is the same as all other sedans.the subject vehicles are not over represented with respect to the risk of fire in real-world high-energy crashes.a further discussion of issues related to post crash fires in the subject vehicles is set out in the closing report for sq 01-014 and that report is in the docket for this petition.after reviewing the petition and its supporting materials, as well as information furnished by ford and gm, and information within the agency's possession from previous investigations and other related actions,nhtsa has concluded that futher investigation concerning post-crash fires in the subject vehicles is not likely to lead to a decision that the vehicles contain a safety defect.

 Tl* the contact was a passenger of a 2000 lincoln town car. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. the driver applied the brakes but the vehicle would not stop and crashed into a tree. the driver of the vehicle sustained bruises. the front passenger sustained a concussion and the rear passenger sustained a broken jaw. the vehicle was towed to an auto shop where it was deemed as destroyed. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2000 lincoln towncar. while driving 55 mph with the cruise control activated he attempted to engage the brake pedal while making a turn and the cruise control would not deactivate. the contact was forced to shift gear into neutral to stop the vehicle and deactivate the cruise control. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. the vin was unavailable. the current and failure mileages were 49,000.

 While pulling into a parking space vehicle commenced to accelerate. vehicle lurched forward and ran up an embankment. no injuries or property damage to report. vehicle was towed to a repair shop, and mechanic could not find anything wrong. consumer will be taking the vehicle to the dealer.*ak..*ak
 On two occasions speed control cable would stick when brakes were applied, causing vehicle to acclerate. dealer was inspecting vehicle. please provide further information.*ak

 Consumer was going 75mph set on cruise control, when approaching a curve conusmer applied brakes to slow down,and as brake pedal was pressed it speeded up vehicle. consumer was coached from limousine service on a 2- way radio how to control vehicle. consumer turned cruise control switch off, and vehicle returned to normal drive. pressing brakes, it sent wrong signal and engaged cruise control.*ak

 After coming to a stop, foot on brake, vehicle will surge forward, brakes will not stop it. happened 4 times so far, last time consumer hit another vehicle. damage to vehicle not known. *ak

 While traveling at 60 mph consumer turned on cruise control, was getting ready to exit and put on brakes to cut off speed control, vehicle slowed down, and then accelerated back to 60 mph. took vehicle to dealer, and they said switch was bad that worked with brakes. this switch also knocked out rear brake lights. *ak there was no indication that the brake lights had failed to alert the driver. *yh
