Defect SummaryOn certain chassis built with lng engines, the nexgen lng tank's primary and secondary relief valves could fail to open and relieve tank pressure.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause ice buildup on the discharge side of the primary and secondary pressure system allowing the relief system to freeze and become blocked resulting in over pressurization of the lng tanks creating the risk of catastrophic tank rupture which could cause serious injury or death.
Corrective SummaryDealers will retrofit the lng tanks with a new primary relief valve pipe away tube and a new ventilated shroud. the recall began april 6, 2004. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact mack at 1-610-709-3337.

Defect SummaryVehicle description: heavy duty trucks equipped with certain meritor-wabco brake system two and four port relay valves. the valve may stick open when a high-pressure application is released.
Consequence SummaryWhen the valve sticks open, it can result in a total loss of air from either the service or the park brake system. the driver may lose braking ability under a service application, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.

Defect SummaryOn certain class 8 heavy duty trucks equipped with r. h. sheppard m90 steering gears, an incorrect hose was used for the high-pressure line between the power steering pump and the steering gear. the hose is rated at 2000 psi, while it should be rated at 3000 psi.
Consequence SummaryThis hose could develop a leak or burst while in service. should the line burst, steering control would still be maintained, but a loss of power assist will be experienced.

 The companies involved in this matter are: skf (hub mfr), arvinmeritor (front axle mfr), and mack (manufacturer of class viiitractor/trucks).skf identified manufacturing defects for specific build dates on front axle hub and bearings (wheel bearings) supplied to arvinmeritor.as a result, arvinmeritor notified mack of axles supplied with possible defective front hub assemblies.as a result of that notification, 998 trucks are being recalled by mack for defective front axle wheel bearings which may fail in such a way that a wheel separation or wheel bearing fire occurs.see attached summary report for additional details.
