FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Approximately 4-5 months ago i began to experience engine surging while driving in town. unable to find any vacuum leaks, i inspected the fuel filler neck to find it badly deteriorated in the area just above the gas tank. i replaced it with a new oem quality neck. at the same time i replaced the throttle position sensor, the coolant temperature sensor, rebuilt the fuel injectors and replaced the intake manifold gasket. afterward, i did not experience any surging until a few weeks ago when, approaching a stop sign, the engine began racing so badly that i quickly shifted into neutral and steered to the shoulder of the road, narrowly avoiding a rear end collision. since then i have driven the truck about 100 miles without incident. the truck has been driven 90,000 miles and well maintained. it may not be relevant to this problem, but this engine was built without an egr valve and egr vacuum solenoid.
