Defect SummaryThe studs which attach the brake master cylinder to the power brake vacuum booster assembly can develop stress corrosion cracking after being operated for an extended period of time in the southern california location.
Consequence SummaryIf a crack occurs, it could result in one or both studs fracturing. the master cylinder could then separate from the vacuum booster, when the brakes are applied, preventing the service brakes from fully activating increasing the risk of a vehicle accident.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the power brake vacuum booster assembly.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC - ANTILOCK - ABS WARNING LIGHT
09/10/200491125103/08/1995
During a trip from home to store, the dash lights for the abs and brake system came on without any prior warning. another driver made a u-turn in front of me prior to my arrival at the store causing me to have to apply the brakes in an evasive manuever. the brakes l,ocked up and caused me to lose control of the vehicle. fortunately, i was able to avoid the collision. i took the vehicle to a local repair shop and they informed me that the abs hydraulic control valve needed to be replace. they indicated that there had been 3 revisions of the original abs system valve, indicating that mazda was aware that there had been a problem with this valve. we have never received any indication of a recall or problem.*ak

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC - SWITCHES - BRAKE LIGHT
201/01/1994
Because the brake light switch failed i could not disengage the cruise control by pressing on teh brake. almost rear ended vehicle in front of me at 70 mph. had switched replaced. happened again about 30,000 miles later., had switched replaced a second time
406/01/1993
The brake light switch failed over and over again due to the design flaw of the switch and the mounting bracket. yh
12/09/1999406/01/1993
The brake light switch has failed four times (approximately every 15-20,000 miles). this means that there are no brake lights and no indication of failure inside the vehicle. the dealer says that the equivalent model ford (f150?) has the same problem and that the dealership can not fix the underlying problem. the switch and / or mounting system for the switch was changed in 1996 (at least that is what the dealer says). the failure of this system creates a significant saftey problem. please advise if this problem has been identified by others. *ak
