In november of 2012 my family was driving home from seattle, wa to san diego, ca. when we were driving we smelled burning rubber so pulled over to see if we could see something wrong under the hood. since it was 10pm and dark outside we couldn't see anything and decided to find the nearest hotel to stay at until we could take it to a shop. after we started driving we saw there was a freeway exit 1/2 a mile away so my husband was driving really slow(about 35mph) hoping we could make it without any problems when all of a sudden there was a huge jerking motion that felt like we ran into something even though we didn't. we stopped immediately and got a tow truck. it ended up being the ac compressor and serpentine belt that needed replaced, although mazda was aware of this problem as they stated in their extended warranty that it had defect in workmanship or materials, the warranty was only extended to 5 years or 60,000 miles. my mazda was 6 years old and had only 48,000 miles but wasn't covered because it was a year passed the warranty even though the miles were still under. we ended up paying $2,000.00 to fix it as well as another $300.00 to stay in a motel for 5 days. ever since the day that the car broke and had the huge jerking movement, by back has hurt everyday since then. it especially didn't help that i was almost 5 months pregnant and although nothing happened to the baby, i'm hoping there was no permanent damage to my back since i've never had back pain or problems since before this incident. i didn't know who else to contact about this but i think this is a huge problem and mazda needs to fix it before more people get hurt, especially because they already know this is a problem which is why the extended their warranty.

I started the car, like i regularly do and the engine/timing chain made a horrible sound that got me very worried since this car is taking care very good since its the only car in the household. i contacted mazda and they said the car had a warranty extension for a l3t engine variable valve timing noise and timing chain noise which is cause by actual failure due to defects in workmanship or materials in accordance with mazda warranty policy and procedures. this warranty extension was for 70,000miles or 7 seven years which ever came first, so my car was not cover since it had 101,000. my concern and disappointment is that after searching and taking to other cx-7 owners the (2007-08) models all had issues with this and mazda did not made a recall just extended the warranty. cars with mileage of as low as 24,000 were affected by it, so its clearly not a wear and tear issue of the car. if that is not replace the engine might be damage and mazda will not even offer a goodwill assistance. i still make monthly payments on the car and its impossible for me to pay $1200 in something that is clearly stated by mazda is a defect in workmanship or materials. its a shame that so many other customers are still battling with this issue and mazda just hides behind their power and attorneys.

I wanted to report a safety issue with the 2007 mazda cx-7. there is a known problem with the ac compressor and instead of doing a recall on the product they extended the warranty to 5 years or 60,000 miles (instead of 32,000 miles). i bought my car right around the time they sent these letters out, so was unaware of what was going on. recently i was driving the mazda and i smelled smoke. i saw some smoke coming from under the hood, and when i pulled over and opened the hood the ac compressor was on fire. had i not been pulling into work and on the highway i would

We were driving 65mph on the i-15 freeway in centerville utah and the sunroof exploded with tremendous force, the sunroof was closed and we were not near an over pass, glass shot into the car and luckily no one was injured, if there would have been some one in the back seat they would have been blasted with glass. there was broken glass from the front floor area to the rear cargo area with most of it in the back seat. after inspection it was clear that the glass that remained was lifted upward away from the roof. we searched on the web and this has happened to a good many people with the same description that the glass exploded outward with many pieces blasted into the car. there was no sign of an object hitting the sun roof.

My 2007 cx-7 experienced a catastrophic failure of the a/c compressor resulting in smoke in the cabin. after parking to allow the car to clear it would not re-start and i had to be towed to the local dealer. this ocurred late on a friday afternoon and so they were closed until the following monday. the potential failure was known and mazda had issued a letter extending the warranty on this item but not a full recall. the dealer installed new parts but since then it has been back several times because of lack of performance. i have received explantions of too much/too little refrigerant blocke dlines with particles from the original failure. after the third return visit in june 2012 the problem appeared to be fixed and the system worked until last week so i scheduled another visit. the problem has now being diagnosed as a fialed hose fitting and they are expecting me to pay for the part but not the labor. my view is that parts like this should not fail at the current 41,000 miles and that some of this is related to the previous fixes. also co-incidently the check engine light came on as i was scheduling a dealer appointment. this has gone on and off several times over the last month. it has been diagnosed as a failed egr valve and will cost $700 to replace. again this is not something that i would expect to need at such a low mileage and on a car that has all routine serving and has been babied. this prompted me to go on-line to research and there appears to be lots of similar issues with this model of mazda and yet they are not performing recalls. i am hoping that my experience will add to the case to pressurize mazda to be more cutomer orientated with their cx-7 owners and/or to support a class action suit to help recompense owners against these non routine mechanical failure issues.

My husband was driving the vehicle down a backroad highway going 60 when all of a sudden the car stopped. ther was no notice, no noise nothing. the pos was towed to the local mazda dealership. the looked at the vehicle and said timeing chain..$3000. ok, not what we expected but fine, fix it. 24 hours laters, they called to advise that the engine is blown $7000. i contact the mazda customer service ( aka people who are trained to tell you that you are sol) to see if there was any recall or any other things that may cover this. no, nothing but a extention was mailed jan 2012 to advise that the timing chain was extended for repair. no notice was received and the address they had on file was correct. so here we sit with a worthless pos that nobody wants to take responsibility for. i would rather have it sit in the drive way and we share 1 vehicle than put 7000 into this car. i see that we are not the only people that have been taken advantage of by mazda. has anyone called recently into customer service to hear the list of recall notices? it take 8 mins for the automated system to list them all. this company needs to take responsibility for it's worthless machines! if a class action lawsuit ever comes out, i will join in a heartbeat. can the nhtsa please look into this? i know that we are not the only people ... no time in life should an engine need to be repaired with only 76k on it!!!

While driving the vehical started to make noise took it to first mechanic shop near bye and they told use the ac compressor was failing but it would be ok then on the way back home the car started to smoke from the compressor because the clutch had seized up we pulled over otherwise im sure we would have broken the belt causeing more damage.

While driving with my ac (air conditioning) on, it suddenly started blowing warm air. the car filled up with a burnt tire like smell and i quickly turned the air conditioning off. after giving it a few minutes and parking my car on a shoulder lane, i turned the air conditioning back on to see if it's going to start working again (while the car was still running). my ac was still blowing warm air but now there was a loud noise what appeared to be coming from the engine along with the burnt tire like smell. i decided to return home and have my husband take a look at it before i contact the dealership service to fix it. as my husband open the hood of the cx7 and i turned on the ac there appeared to be alot of sparks coming from the ac air compressor, right beside the engine. this looks as if it can potentionally set on fire. mazda did send out a warrenty extension letter (ssp 81) back in 2010 for this very same issue. this warranty extension was covering vehicles up to 5 years/60000 miles.

I was driving on my way home on the highway and all of a suddent the ac was not cold. when we got home the belt was smoking from under the hood. we recently bought the car from a gmc dealership at just under 39k miles. only owned the car for maybe 4 months. turns out the car needed a whole new compressor for over $800. the compressor had locked up. i find this very crazy that a car with such little mileage would have such a big problem. the car has been well taken care of. reading up online i have noticed the 2007 models have had ac compressor issues.

While driving, herd a noise coming from the passenger side, some smell coming from that direction as well. lost power to the vehicle, turned off the road and notice that there was smoke coming from the a/c compressor.

My 2007 mazda cx-7 starting making a popping noise and began losing power on april 13, 2012. i drove my car to the dealership and was told that the timing chain and turbo charger are bad and need to be replaced. my car has 80,477 miles on it and therfore, nothing is covered under warranty and i cannot produce all oil change receipts. thus, it is going to costs me $3,000 to get fixed. i am very disappointed in mazda for not fixing a defect that they are clearly aware of, regardless of the mileage! i never received a recall letter and i have been a loyal mazda customer, purchasing 5 mazda's over the last 12 years! i travel with my job so i do put a lot of miles on a vehicle (averaging 2,000 miles per month) but i find it utterly ridiculous that a car has major defects at 80,000 miles! please help and stop mazda from taking advantage of cosumers!

I own a 2007 mazda cx-7, which i purchased in nov. 2006, brand new. over the past 2 years, i have heard a tapping noise coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle. twice in the pass 9 months, the vehicle lost complete power. i asked mazda to check the vehicle and they stated that it was common, nothing to worry about. in january of 2012, i received a safety notice from mazda in regards to a possible defect part, v.v.t. component and a loose timing chain. i took my vehicle to the mazda dealership, who advised me that my vehicle contained this defective part, but stated that they were not going to repair the defective component due to the lack of receipts for oil changes and other maintenance records. the reason for the lack of receipts is because my brother-in-law, who is a mechanic, performed the oil changes and other maintenance work to the vehicle. i asked mazda if the defective part could be hazardous and they advised me it was not harzardous or dangerous. approx. 3 weeks ago, my wife ordered the necessary parts and paid for them in full. after 3 weeks, i was advised that the parts or not available. after reading numerous websites and complaints from cx-7 owners, this is happening across the country. i further read that if the v.v.t. component fails while the vehicle is being operated, the engine will immediately cease, possibly causing the operator the inability to safely manveur the vehicle off the roadway. in my opinion, this is a danger to the occupants of the mazda cx-7 and other motorists. i have not heard of any accidents being reported as a result of the defective part, but i feel that mazda is not taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the motorists. i feel that the matter should be taken care of by mazda before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

Our 2007 mazda cx7 suddenly lost power and i was forced to stop the vehicle in the center median of the highway, as i was unable to move to the right due to other traffic. vehicle was towed back to the dealership where problem was diagnosed as a broken pin on the variable valve time actuator (vvt). there was no prior indication of a problem with the vehicle (no warning lights) prior to the engine stopping. dealership has indicated that complete engine replacement is recommended by mazda. currently the vehicle is awaiting arrival of an adjuster from extended warranty company to see if repairs/replacement will be covered. additional online research has indicated that this is a well-document and frequently occurring problem with this make/model of vehicle, yet manufacturer has neglected to initiate a full recall. rather they issued a service bulletin (#01-002/08) that addresses a vvt noise when starting engine. bulletin states some vehicles may exhibit a loud ticking noise from the variable valve timing. (vvt) this is caused by the lock pin of the variable valve timing actuator not fully engaging. heat treatment has now been added around the hole of the variable valve timing rotor lock to prevent this from happening. it is believed that had my vehicle exhibited any symptoms, i could have had the service bulletin repairs made, and the engine failure due to the broken pin would have most likely been avoided. this should have been a recall, and not addressed by a service bulletin. there is strong evidence, as discovered via the internet, that multiple cx7 vehicles have had this exact same type of failure where the vehicle has suddenly stopped running while being driven at highway speeds. this constititues an extreme safety hazard that could possibly result in serious personal injury or death.

Dealership maintained cx-7 experienced major failure while driving. engine died and major oil leak was noticed. car had to be towed to the dealership. the dealership first indicated that there was some type of failure regarding the #3 cylinder. dealership said that the probable cause of failure was due to turbo overheating. later the dealership stated that the #4 piston failed and caused catastrophic damage to the engine. the cause of failure was never determined. the engine, turbocharger, thermostat, egr valve, intake manifold, starter and o2 sensor were replaced. total cost of repairs (labor, parts, and misc charges) prior to tax was $10,557.49. prior to engine failure we informed the dealership that the check engine light was constantly on but stated that it was due to the gas cap not being properly put on. they never scanned the computer despite the car being under warranty. additionally a ticking noise has been previously brought to the dealership's attention but was told that the engine noise was normal for this particular engine.

My car (which i bought in aug. of 2010) started making a loud tapping noise and 2 days later it just quit on me, i was pulling out of the parking lot were i work so thank god i wasn't on a major street or anything because it just turned off out of the blue. i had to get help to push it in a parking space and it's been sitting there for the last week because i have no money to go find out what is wrong with it. the warranty has expired now so i'm not sure of what to do since this seems to be an ongoing thing with these cars, not just mine.

Another driver turned in front of me, failing to yield the right-of-way. i was doing the speed limit (45 mph) upon entering the intersection. when my cx-7 made contact with the passenger side of her minivan, none of my airbags ever deployed. my shoulder, neck and hip (i still need surgery on all 3 areas) were injured in this accident.

(march/2011) light came on around 65k miles. took it into dealership and they said oil was low and yvt needed replacing. cost was around 2500. no reason why oil was low and last changed by mazda less than 7500 miles before. also full service was done at that time. (june/2011)while on highway at high speeds the car lost acceleration, emittied high pitch whirring. and became difficult to control. towed to dealership and it is being blamed on bad turbo. no reasoning behind failure other than saying oil change issues. the problem is that mazda is the only entity that has ever worked on this car at least twice per year for check ups. there also appears to be others with same reported problems to both turbo and yvt.

2007 mazda cx-7 begin making loud clicking noise in august 2010. took vehicle to repair facility and was told the engine needed to be replaced soon, timing chain iwas loose, and two engine modules were giving faulty readings. got a 2nd opinion from a mazda certified tech with same advice. have all repair and maintenance regards to show that it was not a result of vehicle neglect. vehicle has 79,000 miles on it and has been used for primarily highway travel. also had an issue with compressor which i had to rplace at my own cost.

I own a 2007 mazda cx7 and it was been at the dealer every month this summer and i'm on my second loner car. the trouble started last summer with pinging and turbo lag. that seemed to stop and the dealer said that it was a software issue. but this summer we have had three separate issues. 1. transfer case leak. fixed. 2. engine stabilizer leak. fixed. 3. variable valve timing actuator vvta. currently in shop. car loudly growls to life, squeaky belt, difficulty starting, told by dealer that will eventually cause engine trouble if not fixed. this has all been since july!!! we are just shy of 30k and the warranty expires next month. i am very afraid that something else will go wrong and we will end up paying for it. upon reading a few cx7 web sites and blogs, it has become clear that this vvta issue will lead to a timing belt failure and engine loss. i have a little less then 30,000 miles on this car and bought it new. unfortunately this seems to be a relatively common occurrence in the 2007 model. please issue a recall so that this defect can be addressed prior to engine failure and not at owners expense. thank you!

2007 mazda cx-7 timing chain issue that needs to be replaced for free. the warranty company is trying to not pay the claim. i was driving 20mph and my car died. it was towed to the dealership. they said this never happens. i have gotten all of the oil changed in my car when it needed to be and they are trying to say that i did something to the vehicle. i'm 42 years old and paid alot of money for this vehicle. i do know how to take care of it.

2007 mazda cx-7 had failure of the air conditioner compressor. bearings freeze up in the compressor unit. this causes pulley to stop turning and putting pressure on the drive belt. this causes car to overheat and battery to lose charge because alternator and water pump are not spinning. they do not spin because the drive belt slips over them because air conditioner pulley has seized up. this happens around 34,000 miles and generally within months of the expiration of the 36 month warranty. internet research shows that this is a known problem to mazda. mazda refuses to cover repair under power train warranty as it is not an essential part - even though the car become undriveable.

I recently bought a used mazda cx-7 grand touring edition vehicle. i bought it on november 8, 2008 with 18,000 miles on it. after owning it for a year and a half i was driving to work one morning when i heard a pop and clanking sound. i continued to drive until my car started losing power however i managed to make it to work. no lights came on, nothing. my husband came that morning to drive the car to the mechanic and within 2 miles all the dash lights came on and the car lost all power. it was towed to grappone mazda in concord nh for what i thought would be warranty work since we were still under the warranty. we were told to produce all service records which we did, and they found some gaps, however, never over the recommended 7500 miles that they recommend for an oil change. our warranty coverage was denied twice. to this day, we still don't know what is wrong with our engine. there have been suggestions and also we've been told that the turbo definitely went. we obtained a carfax to see what was done to the car before we owned it and found out the turbo had been replaced before we bought the car when it was only a year old with 18,000 miles on it. mazda is refusing to work with us on this and have left us without a car now for 2 months.
