The subject vehicles have electro-hydraulic power assist steering (ehpas).the complaint counts shown above alleged a loss of power steering assist in the subject vehicles.usually, but not always, the loss is accompanied by the simultaneous lighting of an indicator light on the dash.the complaints include 14 alleged crashes involving 6 injuries.on mazda3 and mazda5 vehicles manufactured from april 2, 2007 through november 30, 2008, rust may have formed inside the epas high-pressure pipe during manufacture due to improper processing.if the rust is present it may damage the power steering pump bearings leading to an increased load on the electric motor; this results in an elevated operating temperature for the epas system.to prevent excessive overheating of the system, which could potentially cause permanent damage, afailsafe mode which de-powers the electric pump is implemented.this causes a loss of power assist making it more difficult to steer the vehicle, especially at lower vehicle speeds.once the failsafe is implemented the epas system will remain disabled until the ignition is turned off.however epas will be re-enabled if the operating temperature is reduced (i.e., within an acceptable range) on a subsequent drive cycle.on august 8, 2010 mazda submitted a part 573 defect information report initiating safety recall 10v-374 to remedy the subject vehicles.the report, which contains additional details on the remedy repair, is available at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/.odi notes that the affected population shown in that report includes approximately 8,000 vehicles mazda repaired prior to initiating the recall.

Power steering indicator light was illuminated after coming to a stop on a hot day. i immediately pulled off the road, placed the car in park, and then turned off the car. the light went away, and the car's power steering was restored. i the proceeded down the road and the light illuminated and i lost power steering again - this time while moving. luckily i was able to stop the vehicle and repeated this process. as of now, i've been having to repeat this process when it is hot outside.

Mazda3 hatchback 2009. the power steering light was on first time around 15000 miles. after that everything was fine and i got mail from mazda3 said this car need a recall for power steering issue. i returned the car to dealer around 36000 miles and thought everything is good. however, started from this jun, the car became much worst. it would automatically shut off during driving and the situation happened often. i even video record the incident for the dealer. i returned my car to dealer once every month from jun, this is the 3rd time. i guess the dealer don't know here is the problem is. it is very dangerous. happened to my once in the exit of highway, once when i turn right in the middle of intersection. note: before it shut off, every indicator light will turn on.

My 2009 mazda 3 gr touring has twice lost power steering assist. first: when idling on very hot day. restarting the car restored power. second, while idling in traffic jam on pa turnpike. restarting did not restore power. the car was very difficult to steer. i'm a healthy man and i managed to get it into the service plaza. after sitting, power assist came back. i'm not an optimist about getting dealers to fix intermittent problems. i never took the car in. in my opinion, the car is only capable of mild and minimal steering during this failure. mazda'a statement that it poses no safety problem is wrong. it would be impossible to maneuver this car quickly under this failure.

 1. i was stuck in a traffic jam in may 31rst and when i had to turn after a while, it was obvious that the power steering was no longer working. 2. this was the only time the power steering failed, it failed until i parked the car about 1/2 hour later. when i started the car again, the power steering worked fine. it has worked fine since then. 3. no repairs have been done. the car is a 2009 mazda 3, 4-door, tr ve

On a few separate occasions (approximately three) during especially hot weather, the power steering has failed while driving my 2009 mazda 3. one especially concerning instance occurred while driving on a highway in very heavy traffic. each time i have pulled over, shut the car off, and turned it back on, following the instructions in the owner's manual. this has been successful for the most part. however, on one occasion, which occurred in 100+ degree weather, the power steering did not return and the car had to be left in a parking structure to cool down. i have an appointment at the local mazda dealership to have this issue addressed and ultimately corrected.

My mazda 3 sedan lost its power steering. i was driving on a straight road and suddenly the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. i called the dealership and they found debris in the steering fluid. they replaced the fluid, the fluid lines and other equipment to the cost of $1,400 covered by the warranty. my car is approximately 16 months old - purchased january 31, 2009.

I was driving my 2009 mazda3 as normal. i went to turn at a light and my power steering failed. i was able to barely compensate but almost hit a car because the steering didn't react as i expected. i pulled over and turned the car off and back on and it was reset. i called the dealer and was told this was a known problem in cracks in the tubing allowing moisture into the system that shorts out the pump and causes the failure. they told me my car was very unsafe to drive and that it would happen again if not corrected. they replaced the tubes and the pump at no cost to me but i want to know why this isn't a recall or at least been reported as a possibility to owners. this is highly unsafe and if it happened at the wrong time such as on an expressway could have led to a severe crash. i think a recall should be considered.

Power steering goes out on 2009 mazda m3. had two occurrences, and took to dealership. auto was checked via computer and i was basically accused of being dishonest. 1 month later, while on an exit ramp the power steering again went out (car going approximately 35mph), took a picture of dashboard to eliminate being dismissed by the dealership. have another appt with service department. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 mazda 3. while driving 5 mph, the contact noticed that the steering wheel became very stiff and difficult to maneuver. the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. while waiting for a tow truck, the contact restarted the vehicle and the steering began to perform correctly without any failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the power steering pump failed. the vehicle is currently being repaired. the dealer stated that the company that manufactured the part was no longer in business; therefore, the contact does not know when the vehicle will be ready. he is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 22,240 and current mileage was 22,270.
