TIRES
09/04/2010
Just took ownership of a 2006 mazda5 touring from my brother-in-law. he just replaced the tires recently due to excessive tire wear on the inside wall. if you look from the back of the car, the tires are tilted in at the top. tire store says according to mazda, the alignment are in spec. i checked the forums and found multiple owners with the same problem and to fix it, they have to install an aftermarket camber kit. there is a negative camber issue on these cars. i don't want to ruin these new tires as they are expensive. why does mazda not realize this as a safety issue? there should be a recall to fix this instead of having the owners spend money to fix it on their own. can you get mazda to put out a recall???

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 mazda mazda5. the contact noticed that the sumitomo tires were wearing thin. the defective tires were replacement tires were manufactured by sumitomo, size p205/50/r17, and the dot number was u2h4. the tire line was not available. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the tires were replaced at least four times. the contact called the manufacturer who offered to have someone inspect the vehicle. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the contact stated that the weight requirements were incorrect and relayed that information to the dealer. the current mileage was approximately 29,000. the failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

 1. purchase vehicle used in 2009 with 170,000 kms 2. since day one, have had issues with door latches / lock and unlock - happens on random occassions and especially in cold/ wet or humid conditions. on several occassions i have been unable to lock / unlock the rear passenger doors using the keyfob or the interior vehicle switches, (i have to unlock/lock the rear vehicle doors manually). 2. today for the first time, the rear passenger door flew open (while driving) as it did not latched closed. the right side rear sliding door still will not latch closed......thought it was frozen, but dealer says no - not frozen - it's a faulty part / switch causing issue. 3. asked dealer about recall info - they told me that the recall service for that door latch problem has already been performed on my vehicle by the previous owner.....therefore, this issue will be my problem to pay for (out of warranty). 3. intermitent electrical issues with this vehicle. dashboard lights flicker at times. gas door pops open for no reason, and at time will not stay closed or will not open. 4. uneven tire wear. have owned the vehicle for 9 months and the tires are already bald on the insides only. vehicle feels like it has a vibration or suspension problem since day one, but the dealer claims nothing is wrong, no problem and alignment is fine? they blaim it on my tires or my driving. but, i have read several postings about these same issues. *tr

Bought the mazda5 new in june of 2006, since then we have put 22,000 miles on the car, the tires which were toyo's wore out at 21,000 miles on the inside, outside looked like you could drive on them another couple thousand miles. insides were down to the cords. tires were rotated every 7,000 miles. i went to the dealership with the problem and they said they could do nothing about it and to contact mazda usa. i contacted mazda usa, and they did not acknowledge the problem, i even told them that they knew about the problem because i have spoken with a lot of people that have the same problem. i really felt and still feel like the car is unsafe to drive with this condition because any of the tires can blow out at any moment when driving at highway speeds. *tr

The 2006 mazda5 causes excessive wear on tires quite frequently. i purchased my mazda5 new in august 2006, and since then, i've had to purchase 2 sets of tires for this car due to the tires wearing on the inside edge. the 2nd set of tires that were replaced were so bad, that the service person at the dealership recommend that i do not drive the car off the lot because the tires hard worn so badly and could blow out at any moment. those tires had only about 26000 miles on them! the last set of tires that was purchased in february 2008 are now beginning to show the same wear on the inside edges of all tires. these tires have only about 18000 miles on them. the tire wear occurred even after i had the recommended maintenance (rotation, balance, alignment) performed. i've read forums online where several other owners of the 2006 mazda5 are having the exact same problem. i've called mazda customer service to see if the manufacturer has reported any problems with the cars suspension, toe, angles, etc, but nothing has been reported, nor has the car been recalled for this problem. mazda corp needs to do something before someone gets tragically hurt due to this problem. if i had not brought my car into the dealership for another mechanical reason in february 2008, i would not have known that my tires had worn so badly, especially since i had recently purchased the tires. i originally thought the problem was with the tires, but that is not the case. the problem is with the car. i've had 3 different name brand tires on this car, so the problem is definitely not the tires. it's the car! *tr

I bought a 2006 mazda 5 in july 2007, in november had to buy all new tires($618). in may, had a flat. in july 2008 , the under guard screws fell out and had to pay $180 for a new guard, and the front struts were leaking. september2008 rotated the tires because of the noise, which made the noises worse. the tires had uneven wear and cupping. also, in september 2008, compressor and clutch failed because of the compressor. r&r compressor assembly, clutch and belt cost me $1397.40. october 2008, the under guard was coming off again and the found the bearings need replacing. they had to order them because everyone is getting them replaced. i'm ready to sell this car!. i did so love it. i can't afford car payments and all the repairs. *tr

Hi! i have a mazda5 2006, last week i almost have an accident ,one of my back tires exploded, when my husband came to help me he was surprise to see the tire the outside look brand new but the inside was all broken and wasted ,i went to the dealer and told them that there's something wrong with the tires, which is not safe they should have a recall because it looks i'm not the only one with this problem, the dealer once they have the money they do not want to bother, knowing that they been having that same problem with other people ,they try to blame it on you, please do something about it i'm a mother of four kids my little one is only two, and they are all the time running with me ,please find out if there are more complaint of the same problem. i wasted like $600.00 trying to fix it and i still have to change the other 2 because they are all wasted too. *tr

I own a 2006 mazda 5 i have had the tires balanced 4 times and the front end alignment checked, my tires had to be replaced due to excessive cupping on all four tires, i have had the tires balanced at least four times, they had just over 29,000 miles, the tire size is 205/50vr 17 (toyo). i have never had to replace tires this early, and needless to say these tires are expensive, i was just wondering if you have had any other complaints about this specific tire size and manufacturer. *tr

Shortly after purchasing vehicle, noticed wheels slipped on rainy days. asked dealer about lack of traction, especially when starting to accelerate, they were aware of the issue and said it was due to the power of the engine. some customers had the same complaint, others didn't. after several months, i definitely did not feel the vehicle was safe for my teenagers to drive, as the lack of traction on wet roads was a safety concern. asked dealer to switch tires, was told i would have to contact the tire manufacturer if it was a tire defect, but this was the performance of the car. contacted mazda customer service, who also would not address this safety complaint and told me i could purchase different tires. brought to a second dealership to ask about issue, service manager told me this was due to a turbo in the engine creating alot of power at low gears. i was not aware of any turbo...mechanic suggested the traction control model would have helped this issue..there is no traction control model available, as far as i know. i like many things about this car, but really feel this loss of traction upon acceleration will cause an accident--we live on a busy road and timing is crucial to pull out of our driveway. we have owned over 15 cars and have never experienced this lack of safety on a vehicle--even on the turbos we have owned! this is a new model, and i think more people will notice the tires slipping as more of these are sold. i wish there was a traction control option, or that mazda would have agreed to try different tires. we have 5500 miles on the car and i do not want my teens in it on rainy or snowy days. *nm

Tires-premature wear. tires become cupped. i have driven the vehicle for 26,000 miles and had to replace all tires at 21,000 due to noise. problem was first reported at 17,000 miles. i have 5,000 on the new tires and the noise is back. noise sounds just like bad bearings. dealer said there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and can not explain the reason for the abnormal tire wear. *jb
TIRES - SIDEWALL
09/12/200715000503/10/2006
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 mazda 5. the vehicle has dunlop signature sport, size 205/50/r17 tires (na). while having the tires routinely serviced, the inspector noticed that the wires on all four tires were sticking out of the sidewalls. the mazda dealer replaced two tires as a free remedy and the other two were repaired at the consumer's expense. three months later, the front passenger side tire went entirely flat. he then took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the sidewall had completely split and was not able to be repaired. the tire was replaced. the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failure, but there were no recalls available. all five tires that were replaced on the vehicle were identical. the transmission type was unknown. the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 21,000.

I have also had excessive tire wear on toyo proxes 205/50/17. the tires are wearing on the inside, almost to the point of the belts showing. there are approximately 26,000 miles on the car and i have personally rotated the tires four times. there has also been roaring almost wheel bearing like noises for the last 15,000+ miles. tire pressure is always properly maintained.
