Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the following states: connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, nw hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and washington, dc. in areas where large quantities of road salt are used, corrosive pits can develop on the surface of the front suspension coil spring. repeated use can eventually cause the coil spring to break and a tire could be punctured from contact with the broken coil spring.
Consequence SummaryThis condition increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a guard assembly which will prevent the broken coil spring from contacting the tire. in addition to performing the recall campaign, mazda is extending the warranty coverage on the front coil springs for the lift of the vehicle. if owners have already paid for the repair or replacement of these front coil springs, due to road salt damage, mazda will reimburse these owners for reasonable expenses.

 Tl-the contact owns a 1992 mazda mx3. the contact stated on the right side of the vehicle the front suspension coil spring was broken. he repaired the coil springs on his own at least three times. they are now broken again. both front driver and passenger seat belts are also broken. they are automatic and should slide over the person when sitting in both front seats. the dealer was contacted who stated there was a recall for the vehicle but they have to order the parts and will contact him when the parts are in. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they never installed the parts. the vehicle was left at the dealer for two days. both recalls are nhtsa campaign id number: 97v116000, component: suspension: front: springs: coil springs. nhtsa campaign id number: 97v211000, component: seat belts: front: webbing. the manufacturer was contacted who stated there are two recalls on his vehicle and will give him a return call but never did. the failure mileage was 168,000....mw

 While driving 55 mph a loud noise was heard coming from the front of the vehicle. consumer drove vehicle to dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that both frontal upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced due to worn out parts. *ak

 Tl*the contact owns a 1992 mazda mx3. while driving 30 mph, the front wheels on the vehicle moved uncontrollably. a mechanic stated that the front coils springs failed. the mazda dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 97v116000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs). the manufacturer would not assist with the repair since the vehicle was not included in the recall. the current mileage was 117,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

 I took my vehicle to northpark mazda/isuzu and the guy at the repair shop said they wouldn't do it because my recall had already been serviced. however if that is true then whomever did it before put defective parts on it because they are messing up to this date. the problem lies with both automatic seatbelts and both front coil springs.
 This vehicle had the protective shield placed on to protect the tires if the springs broke, the springs broke, and the tires were still damaged. the dealer has been contacted. *ak
