| Saw the plastic hood of a smart car fly off over its roof and nearly crash into the car behind him. found the reason why on the smart car of america forum from a dealer guy. service flap (hood) latch locking mechanism the l locks that that hold the hood closed. very common issue is that a carwash blower will blow these off the rotating pins and the hood will fly off. we keep a few spares in the dealership for instant repairs to customer's cars. cost is around $5 each. a 451 757 01 01 c22a driver's side a 451 757 02 01 c22a passenger side attached thumbnails shouldn't mercedes benz redesign and recall to update this safety hazard, instead of its usual case-by-case replacement for $5each of this defective plastic part? thanks.... smart owner. ps-smart is not listed as a brand on this form...please correct! i didn't get the vin of the car flying down the interstate who's hood flew off. all smarts have these same hood clips on all model 451 years. | |||
