 Vehicle is making a banging noise when automatic shifting occurs. park to reverse, etc. has gotten worse over last month. took it to my mechanic was diagnosed with a broken bell housing. took it for a second opinion as no one could believe that fluid was not leaking out. second opinion confirmed problem. when we asked both mechanics why this would happen, one said that if it was not in an accident or run over something ( which had not happened) they could not explain it but said it should never happen. the other mechanic said cheap material - meaning the aluminum housing. things being recycled too much makes it weak - he said. we purchased the vehicle for my daughter 2 1/2 years ago at a car dealership. she has approximately put 24,000 miles on the car since purchased.*ak
