All the brake lines on car from front to rear are rotted. cause brake failure while driving.
09/01/2005 | 69775 | 1 | 09/11/1995 |
Rear brake line had to be replaced due to spongy brakes and excessive fluid leaking out. problem caused by floor pan stiffening rib chafing the line. second problem which has not as yet been corrected is that the headlamps are completely discolored, yellowed making it dangerous to drive at night. to replace headlamps is over $400.00. last problem is that the exterior clear coat is peeling. *jb

I left the house and at the end of the street the brake pedal went to the floor. i returned home and check the car over and observed a substantial amount of brake fluid leaking in the area in front of the driver's side rear wheel. upon closer inspection, the fluid was coming from the wheel well where the brake line goes between the frame and the body of the car. i could not see exactly where the leak was coming from or the cause a leak. i made a trip to the dealer twice (in another car). they advised to get the car to the dealer and that the charge would be $84.00 to look at the car and at that time i would get a estimate to repair. i was advised that there was no recall or technical service bulletins for this car. the car remains in the driveway inoperable at this present time.

Abs brake system: the two front anti-lock sensor indicators-steel ring attached to the inside of the hubs-rotted out. this created a low votage output and cycled the abs system increasing stopping distance on dry payment. when removed, the indicators were rotted to the extend that there were holes in the steel. upon replacement, the abs system worked as designed. a better material must be used if manufacturers are going to sell cars in areas where road salt is used. my 96 lincoln town car usually has the same failures.*ak

While driving the brake pedal went to the floor. the red brake light on the dshboard came on. dealer claims two sections of brake lines rusted out against frame. i also own a 1992 mercury grand marquis ls and the dealer has stated that this car also has rusted brake lines along the frame.*ak referenced in rq03-004
I was backing up at a gas station and the rear tires started to spin and the car made a noise like i ran over a bunch of trash cans. i put the car in drive and it went forward like it was shot out of a cannon. i applied the brakes and the car wouldn't stop. i went over an embankment, and the car went up into the air into a ditch. the airbags deployed and the driver airbag burst open and tore my shirt to shreds.i received multiple contusions on the upper chest, and severe contusions to the left breast. under my chin i received contusions and burns.*ak

Rear steel brake lines failed during a hard stop. both steel lines are rust so bad that it's hard to tell which line failed. the failed section is located about one foot in front of right rear tire. but the rest of the lines appears very rusted. both steel lines will be replaced. ford had no repair program for this issue. my 1965 ford still has the factory lines which are still in great condition.! this 1995 mercury brake system was flushed every two years. the underside of the car was washed after snow storms to remove salt. every spring a heavy wash to remove salt, dirt etc. lines failed from the outside in.*ak

Brake pedal went to the floor without warning. red brake caution light was observed only after the failure.there was no braking power. i had to drive home slowly with use of parking brake. i observed a large amount of brake fluid dripping from the area in front of the drivers side rear wheel. with the car jacked up, upon closer inspection, i observed that there was a section of the brake line rusted, corroded and wet from brake fluid. there was a hole in the brake line as it may have rubbed a hole in the brake line due to close contact with the frame. i further observed a small piece of black cloth electrical tape under the affected brake line failure. i also observed that that there was a pink color paint on the rubber donut that is used between the frame and body and that there was a the same color pink (dot the size of a quarter) painted on the center of the drivers rear side brake disk. this possbily donotes that there was a dealer update in the past. this was done without my knowledge as i have all the repair slips since. service dealer disavows any knowledge of past problems despite the documents that were provided to them. i was advised that i would have to get the car to the dealer and pay a $85.00 charge before being provided a estimate to repair. i have take several digital photos of the affected area and another area of the brake line that had been rubbing against a sharp edge of the frame but has not yet failed. i also observed that the compression rubber donut that is used to keep vibration, noise and comfort on the passenger side had been painted with the same pink color and that the paint was covered with two pieces of black cloth tape. from my research the police, taxi vehicles of the same my 95-97 had the same problems and had been brought back to the dealer for correction however the consumer vehicles have not been corrected. *ak
